Chapter Sixty One

Tuesday 24th May, 2016

I woke up the following morning to the bright rays of sunlight streaming into the room. I groaned and rubbed at the pain in my neck from the awkward position I slept in on Lara’s couch.

Speaking of which…where was she?

I stood up to stretch my body and stepped on something soft.

“Ouch!”

I jumped, startled at the voice and looked down. Lara glared at me through half sleepy eyes from where she lay on the ground.

“What time is it?” I yawned.

“Um… I think it’s 10am… shit!” She suddenly jumped up as I froze when I realized how late it was.

“I have to get to work!” We yelled at the same time.

Lara ran into her bedroom while I grabbed my phone to see if I had any missed calls and realized the battery was completely down.

Oh no… what if my boss called me? What if there was a work emergency?!

I took a deep calming breath and stopped to think. There was no time to return to the apartment and get changed. I had to leave now if I wanted to salvage my job.
