***Bryan***
Alpha Westby just concluded an emergency meeting in the Mo packhouse. He's concerned about the killings that have been taking place in Silvercrest Range. The two recent bodies found were from the Foss pack. "Bryan, wait behind," he ordered. "I'd like a word with you." I nodded and maintained my seat. I wondered what he wanted to talk about. Perhaps it was about the succession ritual. He rubbed my shoulder from behind giving me a gentle squeeze. "Hope you're warming up." "Do I need to warm up?" A raspy laugh escape my throat. "Well, I think you need to." He sat down to face me. "Silvercrest Range is currently going through some shit. Someone is out to get everyone. At first I thought it's just the Andersons. Now the Foss are being hit too." "I've told you many times not to worry, Westby. We are the Mo pack," I whispered. "Nobody will dare touch us." Westby's eyebrow furrowed. He's surprised by my words obviously. "Why are you so confident that we aren't the next pack to be hit? We are the third most relevant pack in the range. The Andersons and Foss who are larger than us are being attacked. How will a pack like ours survive it?" "Sorry, but have you been drinking lately? You sound scared. Shouldn't an Alpha be courageous in moments like this?" Westby looked at me like he was about to punch me. " I know what you did there. You think I'm scared. And who said one can only obtain courage in the absence of fear. I fear for the men, women and kids in my pack. Keeping them safe is all I'm concerned about. If you need a reminder, don't forget the Foss' greatest rival at the Mos. So I am not scared of anyone in the whole of Silvercrest Range, rather it worries me that whoever is coming after the other packs might come for us too." I patted his arm. "Trust me when I tell you that nothing will happen to us. Not when I'm here. I'm so confident that whatever or whoever has got the Andersons and Foss will not get to us." Westby glances at me before folding his arms. "I'm proud and happy that you agreed to succeed me as the next Alpha after I step down. You are the strongest man I know. You've being through so many terrible things and you're still standing in one piece. Come what may, you are the best choice to become next alpha. But I need to ask you something. And please tell me the truth." Westby's questions aren't usually nice questions. I'm used to that by now. So I prepared myself. "Truth about what?" He began, "Bryan I've asked you this before. I'll ask you again. Are you responsible for what's going on? I know you have a grudge against them for what they did to you years back." I pretend to be shocked and answered, "No! Why would you say that? You keep suspecting me, Westby. Do you think I don't have better things to do than seeking vengeance? You told me to let it go twelve years ago, and I did." "I want to believe you but all this started shortly after you got back to town," His eyes were filled with worry. I shook my head. "I've told you the Andersons and Foss might have stepped on someone's toes and I think it's someone who is not only dangerous, but crazy and angry enough to go after them." Westby didn't blink for like five seconds then he shrugged. "Okay. If you say so. What's confusing is that Alpha Ashley made his daughter marry Evans Foss so they could get protected from—" "That marriage is a sham. Look how it's going." I blurted out, interrupting Westby in the process. "The bastard failed. It's been two weeks since the marriage and Evans hasn't protected the Andersons in any way. It's funny his own pack members are beginning to get killed too." I fight back from laughing. "I heard from a reliable source that the reason Evans agreed to that marriage was for his own gain. I'm not sure but I think Evans is planning something big. They say he wants all the other packs to be under his control. He already has access to the Andersons treasury and allegiance by marriage. It's remaining us, the Mo pack, the Bergs and the Ruuds. He'll get to us soon." I growled. "For his sake. I hope that's just a rumor. Who the fuck does he want to control? He better stop fucking around and stay in his lane." Dead men don't lead or control other packs. Evans Foss is going to die by my hands. Also that pretty ass wife of his, Scarlett. He better do himself a favor and cease dreaming big. Anyone who knows what I've been up to would call me a psychopath or worse. I'm enjoying this and I'm not stopping anytime soon. Alpha Westby suspects me. I can feel it. Even though I've been denying it, he suspects that I have something to do with this. Left to me, I won't consider myself a Haaland if I do not fight back.***Scarlett***The hall had turned into chaos. Alpha Westby wasn't the gentle man he appeared to be in front of his pack. His patience was running out as he couldn't deal with his daughter's defiance any longer. "No, father. Please don't push me." "Why don't you want to listen to her?" Bryan asked , his tone firm. "She's right about how I don't have feelings for her. I love Scarlett." "You kids think you know better than your elders or parents." He pulled ingrid towards him. "Love isn't everything. Some things are not as they seem." "Father!" Ingris yelled in pain, holding her arms. "I'm not going to marry Bryan.""You must!""I won't. You were there that night." Ingrid faced her father with so much defiance in her eyes. Alpha Westby's eyes flickered. "What are you talking about?" "You know what you did to Bryan's pack. You and the Alpha of the Foss and the Anderson pack planned on wiping out the Haaland." My heart pounded in my chest. I couldn't believe what Ingrid was saying
***Scarlett***I avoided the front seat like a plague. I would have preferred to sit in the back but I would struggle to keep up with the view because of my height. I found a perfect spot in the middle. In no time the hall was filled and everyone had taken their seats. Bryan looks dashing and handsome just as I had imagined he would turn out to be. Soon after Alpha Westby walked in with his daughter, the bride. She was holding onto him and smiling but I couldn't be deceived by her smile because she was forcing it. She stood in front of Bryan who returned a smile. Bryan and Ingrid's wedding was supposed to be a joyous occasion. But it wasn't so because Ingrid broke down in tears, her body shuddering uncontrollably. It was shocking to see but the greatest shock was when she didn't return the vow and rejected Bryan. The murmurings filled the room. I wondered why Ingrid did what she did? Luckily, Adam was nice to sit next to me. "What's going on?" I whispered to Adam who looked as
***Scarlett***In silence, I watched every member of my pack from the balcony. It's been a very long time since I saw them happy. My pack had insisted that we hold a little celebration for defeating the Foss pack. I went with their suggestion and I'm glad they are all rejoicing. I couldn't forget about the photo I had seen. I knew if Bryan was close or if I were to see him, things would be much easier. He would be able to identify if he was related to the unknown man in the picture. As I continued watching, my mind drifted towards the thoughts of Alpha Westby. Something in me didn't trust that man, not after what he said to me when he came to meet me at the packhouse I was staying with James. His words were so harsh that I knew he wasn't bluffing. He didn't want me in Bryan's life and he wasn't going to tolerate seeing us together. I am a threat to his daughter's love life. I think Alpha Westby isn't the good man he pretends to be. That was the conclusion I got that day he came
***Bryan***If only I could have what my heart desires, I would want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love. At first all I ever cared about was toa avenge the death of my pack. After meeting Scarlett everything changed. All that mattered to me was her. It's not surprising that Fate brought us together again after our path once crossed when we were much younger. Now, I'm stuck. Without Scarlett, I'm lost. In less than twenty-four hours, I'll be married to Ingrid. Will be referred to as her husband and as the alpha to the Mo pack. There's nothing much I can do about my situation. Holding onto some of the happy memories with Scarlett was giving me a form of peace. Even while I sat alone thinking of how tomorrow would turn out, I can't help but think about how Scarlett was coping. I heard she's been discharged and is doing great. Knowing she's alive after what Event did is enough to be grateful. "What are you doing?" Max asked, his eyes scanning
***Scarlett***Just as I feared, Holm and the men loyal to Evans began to attack my pack. We had selected an Alpha, Bill, who everyone had agreed to support as the leader of the pack. Sterling never wanted to contest for the Alpha position in the first place, although I would have loved it if he did. He wanted to remain the pack's beta. Holms' attacks had become frequent, so we had to make a plan. One containing the element of surprise. We made a plan and everyone agreed with it. We are to attack the Foss pack before dawn tomorrow. I'm sure they wouldn't be expecting it. The time came for us to storm into the Foss pack house. Bill led us and we carried out our plan successfully. Even though we surprised the Foss with our attack, the battle between our pack was fierce. In the end, my pack emerged victorious. There were a lot of casualties and injured people. Amongst them was Holm who we agreed to take back with us as our captive. I understood that if we were to kill Holm, then muc
***Scarlett***My wound felt tender even though it had almost healed. The hospital had ordered that I should be discharged because I was feeling much better. Sterling greeted me when I set foot into the pack house. So did other of the pack members who were awaiting my return. A few lamented how they had feared for my life when they heard that Evans had kidnapped me and shot me. I was sure they didn't get the whole story because no one was right about what transpired. "We're glad to have you back," Sterling said with a smile. "Although we're still worried because Evans is out there. We don't know what to expect." I nodded, scanning all the faces of those who were waiting to hear me speak out. "We can't let our guards down. Evans is dangerous as long as he is alive. We need to be very vigilant." Sterling nodded in agreement. "What do you suggest we do now? We are yet to have an Alpha. As the daughter of the former Alpha and an Alpha female of our pack we need to hear what your plan
***Scarlett*** Bryan couldn't let go of my hands. "I want you to promise me something," he whispered, his eyes locked with mine, piercing through them as I tried hard not to cry. I nodded, short of words. I was eager to hear what he wanted to say. My heart pounded heavily. My chest is heavy from anticipation. "Scarlett, my love, if I could choose again in the next life, know that I would choose you," he exhaled deeply. "I want you to promise me that whatever life time we find ourselves, we will find each other again." I whined out of pain. "I understand. I hope we do find each other again. I promise to find you." He leaned down and kissed my forehead, then looked into my eyes again. "Fate has bound me to Alpha Westy. I owe him my life. It's not easy to disobey him. Marrying Ingrid is my way of being grateful to him." "Shh…I understood," I placed a finger on his lips to silence him. "You don't need to say much. I know you're in a tight spot. It's already tough on you
***Scarlett*** I was in a state of panic as I watched Bryan try to save me first. Bryan must have followed his heart because Ingrid was so mad. I was helpless and bound to the chair, but Evans released me wanting us to play the next level of the game. He suddenly pointed the gun at Ingrid. Evans was determined. He wasn't bluffing. I was already angry that Bryan had chosen to save me instead of Ingrid. But seeing the poor lady die because of us was something I couldn't stand and watch. Bryan may not love her but I knew for sure that Ingrid's death was going to ruin him. Bryan was going to be the Mo pack's enemy. I trembled at the thought of Ingrid dying here. This is bad. If Ingrid ends up dead, then that means a bigger problem for Bryan. Alpha Westby might never forgive him. All this started because of me. If there was anyone who had to die, it should be me. I failed at killing Evans. Instead of dying in the fire, I ended up creating a monster. A devil who doesn't give up. Eva
***Bryan*** I couldn't breathe for a moment as I stared at the camera on my phone, my mind reeling with horror. Evans' twisted face leered back at me, his burned and scarred skin making him look like a beast from hell. "Come alone, Bryan," he sneered. "If you want to save either of them." He had said to me laughing evilly. My heart raced as I thought of Scarlett and Ingrid, both of them in Evans' custody. I found myself screaming inside my head. Why can't he just die? Scarlett was so sure that he died in the fire. what is this now? Evans had warned me not to come along with anyone. I promise him I wasn't going to bring anyone with me. I arrived at the destination, my heart pounding in my chest. The first thing I noticed was both Ingrid and Scarlett's scent. I heard a scream come from the building. I was sure he was torturing one of them. This sends me into a frenzy and I growled in anger pushing the door down with my weight. As I entered the dark room, I was taken aback by
