“Hey there,” one of three guys said, approaching where we sat. I could smell them, they were humans.

“What do these mutts want?” Makayla growled, suspicious.

Sandro cocked his head, regarding them with narrowed eyes. His expression mirrored Makayla’s. Even I sat up straight, regarding them with skepticism until they stood in front of us.

“Well hey, how can we help you?” I asked, forcing a polite smile onto my face. I really hoped they were not any form of threat. I was too mentally exhausted to do anything involving my powers.

“You look a little familiar,” the one in the middle said, looking at Sandro. His two buddies nodded their heads in agreement. It was like watching a bad scene out of a high school movie. “Do we know you?”

We said nothing to him but I could tell Sandro was getting irritated by their mere presence.

They turned their attention away from Sandro's piercing gaze to me. “You’re cute though,” blonde middle guy said with a playful smirk.

I was immediately filled wit

Maria's POVMy heart had been heavy with pain and guilt for days, for over a week in fact. I couldn't function. I couldn't think or eat or sleep. All I wanted was to hear my mate's voice through our mind link telling me to relax, that everything was going to be just fine, and that it was all a misunderstanding.I waited, day after day but was met with continuous silence. Nothing. Just silence. My mate, the Beta of Moretti Brun, second in command to one of the most brutal Alphas in the coast, was a traitor. I had thought about it from every angle possible to give him every excuse available in the books. All so I could have an answer to one question.WHY?Why did he betray his pack? His Alpha? Me? Why did he belittle our bond like that? Most importantly, why didn't he think of our little girl who was about to be born? But right then, as I watched the battle that I had been watching for the past hours, one thing had changed. My mate was there, fighting for us like a man possessed and al

***END FLASHBACK***“How dare you ??!” Malachi's form flickered violently between solid form and shadow. “You dare attempt a reversal in MY ritual circle? Never!”“Watch us,” Sandro growled, stepping beside me.Malachi's hands shot out, black tendrils erupting toward us. But I was faster. My renewed magic intercepted his, surprising him. Lady Thalia took advantage of his few seconds of confusion to create a barrier between us and Malachi so we were not so close to him.He broke through the barrier in seconds but we had gotten some distance between us. “I'll hold him off!” she shouted. “Start the reversal!”Abandoning us, Malachi looked at his army that was being destroyed and began chanting again. His voice grew louder, more desperate. The crystal behind him pulsed harder and faster, bringing more colour to the reddened clearing. He was trying to complete his harvest before we could stop him.“We have to do this now,” Father Matteo's hands shook as he unrolled the scrolls. “Alpha, Lun

Silas’ wolf crashed into the corrupted ones with devastating force, killing wolf after wolf. My confusion died down and was replaced with understanding.“They're with us!” Someone shouted. “They're fighting for us!”Hope sparked in my chest for the first time in hours. The new wolves came with something, fresh strength. Their vigor motivated Moretti Brun warriors and just then, we began tearing through the corrupted wolves with renewed efficiency.Silas shifted mid-battle, his human form covered in blood and dirt. “Moretti Brun!” His voice boomed across the battlefield. “I know what you all must think of me. I know what I've done. But I swear on my unborn child. I never betrayed you!”A corrupted wolf lunged at him while he was still talking. One of the new wolves intercepted it, tearing out its throat.“I let myself be captured!” Silas continued, ducking under another attack. “I let them blackmail me so I could learn their plans! So I could find their weaknesses but I knew if I share

The black veins retreated, disappearing as my magic flowed in his veins. Giovanni's convulsions slowed, then stopped. His eyes focused again and his breathing steadied.“Luna,” he whispered. “Thank you.”But the cost was immediate. The shield around us fell. My vision blurred. My legs gave out. The world tilted around me.“Elara!” I heard Sandro call out to me in my head as his large wolf rushed in my direction. Giovanni's eyes widened when he registered what was happening. “Luna, you need to…”Shadows wrapped around my arms, my legs, my throat.I coughed and tried to fight, tried to summon more magic, but I was too weak from healing Giovanni. The shadows lifted me off the ground, pulling me through the air toward Malachi.“Elara!” Sandro roared as he shifted in the air, fighting to reach me, but more robed figures blocked his path.I struggled against the shadows, but they were like iron. They dragged me to Malachi's feet, forcing me to kneel before him.His hand, no longer fully hu

The ground beneath our feet trembled.“What's happening?” Trevor called out, as we struggled to keep our balance. All except Sandro who stood still, glaring in Malachi's direction. The stone floor began to rise, moving as one solid piece and lifting us upward like we were on an elevator. The chained wolves screamed louder as they rose with us.Sandro grabbed my arm to steady me as the chamber ascended with speed.Above us, the rocky ceiling split open with a sound like the world tearing apart. Blood red moonlight poured through the widening crack and we burst into the open air.I stared in disbelief. We were no longer underground. The chamber had risen to become a massive stone platform elevated high above the temple ruins. Around us stretched an open space I'd never seen before. It looked like a circular arena carved from ancient rock, surrounded by pillars that reached up toward the blood moon.“What is this place?” Alessia breathed.“The original temple,” Father Matteo whispered in

Trevor caught her, lowering her gently to the ground.“She's fine,” Trevor confirmed, checking her pulse. “But she'll be out for a while.”“We can't take her with us,” Lady Thalia said, her voice hard but not exactly unkind. “She's a liability as long as she's under his control.”“I can't just leave her!” Sandro's refusal and disgust in her statement was evident.Lady Thalia was right but I understood how he must feel.“You have to.” I grabbed his arm, forcing him to look at me. “She fought so hard through mind control to warn us. Don't let that sacrifice be for nothing.”He looked down at Sofia's unconscious form, then at the temple entrance where red light pulsed and chanting echoed. The dead bodies of the hooded figures scattered around the ground.“You,” he called to one of the warriors. “Stay with her. Keep her safe. Restrain her if you need to buy gently. Just don't allow her to follow us.”The warrior nodded, pulling Sofia's body into his arms so he could move her.Sandro turne
