Chapter 3

Author: Seren
A squad of elite guards strode forward. Following behind them was Alpha Hall.

The High Priestess scrambled to her feet like she had just found a lifeline and scurried back into the Forbidden Grounds.

"Sia, what are you doing?" Hall frowned, his face unreadable.

I stood my ground and stared at him coldly. "You locked me in that dark pit of a prison, and now you are out here tying the knot with another woman?"

Something flickered in Hall's eyes, guilt maybe. His voice came out a little unsteady. "You heard the witch's prophecy yourself. You and your sister, you both carry the blood of the cursed wolf. If I insisted on making you my Luna, the entire pack would fall. Sia, for what we once had, I will swear by the Moon Goddess, if you just go back to the Forbidden Grounds quietly and stop hurting Lily, I will let today slide."

Before he even finished, a searing pain exploded in my chest. Like a blade twisting through my ribs, shredding flesh.

I knew what this was. Sia was still alive, and she was being tortured right now.

I clutched my chest and whipped my head toward the sealed stone door deep inside the Forbidden Grounds.

Hall noticed. His voice softened with something that almost sounded like pity. "Sia, I know this is cruel. I know it is hard to accept. But as Alpha, I have to think about the pack's future."

A soft, trembling voice came from behind him. "Hall, what's going on?"

Lily walked up slowly, flanked by her attendants, wearing that elaborate bone crown on her head, the one made from trophies of past Alphas. The one that was supposed to be Sia's.

Her eyes darted when she saw me, just a flicker of panic, before she smoothed it into a wounded, pitiful look. She sidled up to Hall and tugged his sleeve. "Sia, I know you hate me for taking your place. But bloodline and fate can't be fought. Why can't you just let go and wish us well?"

I bit through the fire in my chest and let out a cold laugh. "Wish you well?"

I walked toward her, step by step, my eyes ice cold. "The wounds on Sia's body. You ordered those?"

Lily's face tensed. She ducked behind Hall, her eyes glistening with fake tears. "What are you talking about? I don't understand. I've always treated you like a little sister."

She made sure to show off the bone anklet at her foot, Sia's coming-of-age gift.

The guards closed ranks around her, barking warnings. "That's enough! One more word against the Luna and we won't hold back!"

Hall pulled Lily behind him too, his stance solid and unyielding.

Lily, now feeling safe, dropped the act entirely. She turned to the guards and ordered coldly, "The cursed wolf broke out of the Forbidden Grounds and disrupted the Alpha's covenant ceremony, unforgivable. Seize her. Break her legs. Throw her back in."

Several guards drew their weapons and charged. I didn't bother drawing mine. I met them head on. Sidestep. Disarm. Elbow. Knee.

Within seconds, the elite guards hit the ground screaming, completely out of commission.

Lily let out a shriek of pure terror.

I walked through the wreckage, step after step, closing in on her, watching her pupils blow wide with fear. "Wearing Sia's crown. Taking Sia's things. And you actually think that makes you Luna?"

I picked up a blade from the ground and aimed it straight at her throat.

Hall's face went white. He pulled Lily into his arms, shielding her.

Then a frantic shout from the distance. "Stop! Don't hurt Lily!"

Hall's heart dropped. His head snapped up.He stumbled to my feet, dropped to one knee, and looked up at Sia. "Sia, no. I won't accept this! I was blind. I was deceived! I know how much you have suffered. I will make it right! I will have Lily executed right now. Please, give me one more chance. Please."Sia looked at him and shook her head gently. "It's too late, Hall. This justice you are offering, it didn't come from your conscience. My sister fought her way here to get it for me. I, Sia, reject you, Hall, as my mate."Hall collapsed to the ground in agony. Lily, watching from the side, saw the tide had turned and finally lost all hope. She screamed like a madwoman. "Why?! I planned this for so long! Why do you get to come back and take everything away from me?!"With a burst of desperate strength, she broke free from the soldiers and lunged at me and Sia. "If I can't be Luna, then neither can you! Come die with me!"Hall shouted in terror, "Sia, watch out!"I stared coldly at Lily

Hall snatched the letter from the wooden box.The further he read, the worse his face got. His hands started shaking uncontrollably. The letter documented every dirty deal between Lily and the witch, crystal clear. Lily had traded mining rights to rare minerals in exchange for the witch's prophecy branding me as the cursed wolf. All because she needed me gone before she could take out Sia, the one Hall had truly set his eyes on.And that "noble bloodline" she flaunted? Nothing but empty words from the witch's mouth. After I was exiled, Lily moved fast. She shifted the curse onto Sia. Bribed the priestess. Planted rumors about being a high-born white wolf to catch Hall's attention.Hall's head snapped up, his eyes locked on Lily. "All of this was fake?"Lily clutched at straws, shaking her head frantically, crawling toward him in tears. "No! Hall, let me explain! Those two sisters hate me. They faked this whole thing to frame me! I'm innocent!"Sia leaned against my shoulder, a bitter s

The dungeon was damp and dark, thick with the stench of blood.I followed the stone steps down. At the end, a torch flickered weakly. In the deepest corner of the dungeon, I finally found Sia.She was submerged in filthy water, her wrists bound by iron chains overhead. Her once-white dress was now soaked through with blood. The old priestess stood before her, holding an iron rod coated in silver dust, interrogating her. "Why did your cursed sister come back? How many did she bring? Tell the truth. Get your sister to surrender, and maybe the Luna will spare your miserable life."Sia hung her head limply, her hair matted with sweat and blood, her face ghostly pale. At the priestess's words, she lifted her head, agonizingly slow, and spat right in her face. "My sister is not cursed. And I will never betray her. Go ahead. Kill me."The priestess flew into a rage. She wiped the blood off her face, her features twisted with fury as she raised the iron rod. "Since you are begging for death, I

My father collapsed to the ground, pointing at me, his lips trembling violently. "You were exiled! How are you here?!"My mother panicked too. She clung to Lily's arm, scrambling for excuses. "We did it for the pack! The witch said you two were cursed! We had no choice! When you left back then, we spared your life!"I let out a cold laugh. "Spared my life?"I flicked my wrist and pulled out a cloth-wrapped bundle from inside my coat. I tossed it at their feet. "The day I accepted exile, I hadn't even made it past the pack's borders before four assassins came for me. These arrows were meant to put me in the ground."I stared at my parents' ashen faces. "Father. Mother. Care to guess why I'm still standing?"My father's face went white as bone. He couldn't get a single word out.Back then, they had paid top coin for the pack's best archers. Thought it was foolproof. What they didn't know, their archers were nothing compared to me.I dodged every poison-tipped arrow. Let them think I had

My parents rushed to the Forbidden Grounds entrance, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. My mother saw me holding the blade at Lily's throat and let out a shriek. She threw herself in front of Lily without a second thought. "Get away from her! You lunatic!"Then she hauled her arm back and slapped me across the face. The crack echoed through the night sky."Lily is a white wolf of noble blood! She can lead this pack to prosperity! We took her as our adopted daughter. What's wrong with giving her a little extra love? The prophecy was right. You and your cursed sister, all you ever bring is disaster!"I turned my head slowly and licked the blood off the corner of my mouth. "That slap. Was it for Lily?"My mother spat back, "So what if it was? You attacked the future Luna! You deserve to die!"I nodded. "Noted."My father stormed forward too, his face twisted with disgust. "We should have burned you when we had the chance. Your sister was a plague, and you are no different! Put down the w
