The moment I said that, the entire room went so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Thomas Wilson froze where he stood, staring at me in disbelief. A flicker of panic flashed through his eyes as he grabbed my hand, stopping me from reaching for the divorce papers. "Michelle, that's enough. Stop making a scene."

I pulled my hand back and calmly wiped my fingers with a handkerchief. "A scene? You think I'm joking with you? Thomas, who do you think you are? You make a mistake and then try to twist it around on me? That's not how this works!"

His expression darkened, his gaze locking onto mine. "Michelle, we've been married for seventeen years. You've always been considerate, always understanding. Why are you reacting like this now?

"Lucy's husband can't have children. And her health isn't suitable for IVF. She just wanted a child, that's all.

"She's always been proud, unwilling to bow to anyone. But she knelt to me, threatening to die if she couldn't have a child. Was I supposed to just stand by and watch her throw her life away?"

"I only gave her a child to repay a debt. There's nothing between us anymore, truly. I haven't betrayed you."

Hearing this, I could only laugh.

More than once, I had gently brought up my wish to have a child of my own. Every time, he refused—saying he couldn't bear to see me suffer, that he didn't want me to go through it. Eventually, I stopped asking.

But I never imagined that all it would take was for someone to kneel before him, to threaten her life, and he would willingly have a child with her.

Then what about all the pressure I endured all these years? All the judgment, the sideways glances from others—what did any of that count for?

When I proposed to Thomas, he told me he intended to remain child-free. If I couldn't accept that, he wouldn't marry me.

I loved him, so I compromised.

All these years, no matter how much I longed for a child of my own, no matter how envious I felt watching other families of three, I endured it in silence.

I didn't even bring up adoption.

But I never, ever expected that in the single year I was away on a business assignment, he would have a child with his first love.

I still remember how, in the early years of our marriage, his family constantly pressured us to have children. I shielded him from it all, took on every bit of that pressure myself, offending more than a few relatives in the process.

As his company grew bigger and bigger, my own career became increasingly demanding. Business trips kept me away for months at a time, sometimes even half a year. And yet, our relationship only seemed to grow stronger.

We were known in our circle as the model couple. Except for the fact that we had no children.

With my full support, he built his career from the ground up—rising from a complete novice to a rising force in the business world, firmly establishing himself in the industry and earning the respect of many influential figures.

On his thirty-ninth birthday, he pulled me into his arms, his voice thick with emotion. "Thank you for being with me every step of the way, for all your support. Michelle, marrying you is the greatest fortune of my life. I hope we can stay together forever—always."

I believe that, at the time, he meant every word.

But sincerity is fleeting.

Or perhaps… I was the only one who ever took it seriously. Perhaps he never did.

All these years, his family never stopped urging us to have children. I stood firm against them, and to spare him any pressure, I even went so far as to undergo a tubal ligation.

Yet over time, the story twisted into something else—that I was the one who couldn't bear children, that I was all show and no substance, the reason Thomas's family had gone so many years without an heir.

I had no strength to argue back. I could only endure their accusations, their constant criticism behind my back.

Later, as his career soared, his family gradually stopped bringing up the subject of children in front of him.

Little by little, they accepted our child-free life.

And yet, I never could have imagined it would come to this.

I got the paternity test results. The moment I saw them, I couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. With the report in hand, I agreed to meet Thomas. The instant he saw me, his eyes reddened. "I know I was wrong… but can you give me a way out?"The man standing before me now was nothing like the one from seven days ago.A week ago, he had been impeccably dressed, effortlessly sharp. Now, he looked disheveled—stubble lining his jaw, complexion sallow, hair carelessly combed. The arrogance that once clung to him was gone. He had even lost weight.Seeing him like this didn't surprise me. If anything, it brought me a grim sense of satisfaction.People who do wrong should pay the price."I'd like to give you a way out," I said calmly, looking at him. "But if I had nothing—if I didn't have the means to bring your company down—would you have let me go?"He opened his mouth, but no words came out. Because we both knew the answer. He would have crushed me without hesitation, leaving me

"Mr. Wilson, our biggest investor has suddenly decided to withdraw their funding. Their reason is that your personal life is… inappropriate. They say if you can't even manage your own family, how can you run a business well?"And several partners have also refused to sign contracts. They've turned around and reached agreements with the Peterson family instead."Thomas's secretary's voice was laced with unmistakable tension and unease. He knew that the moment he said this, Thomas would explode. But he had no choice—he had to report the truth.Sure enough, Thomas flew into a rage, shouting, "If they won't cooperate, then forget it! Do you think I can't run a business without them?"Before the words had even settled, he had already slammed the phone down. Despite his bluster, the flicker of panic in his eyes betrayed the cracks forming beneath the surface."It's you! It has to be you who leaked everything! That's why they pulled their investment from Thomas's company!"Lucy reacte

The bodyguards stepped forward without hesitation. Startled, Lucy shrank behind Thomas, only daring to peek out with wide, fearful eyes. "What are you trying to do? This is a society governed by law!""You're the one who broke the law first," I replied with a cold laugh. "Interfering in someone else's marriage—doesn't that count?"My gaze settled on Thomas. "Are you signing, or not?"He flipped through the divorce agreement, his expression growing darker with each page. "Why should I leave with nothing? All these years, you've eaten my food, used my money—and now you want to take my company too?"That company was his life's work, built from the ground up with everything he had. It was his second life—something he would never willingly let go of.Of course, I knew that. But so what?If he was going to understand the price of his mistakes, anything less than real pain would never make him truly regret it."I suggest you sign as soon as possible. You're the one at fault. You wouldn

After returning to the marital home I shared with Thomas, I packed my belongings and left without hesitation. Then I went to the hospital for a full examination."Miss Moore, your overall condition is good. You just need to avoid excessive stress. However… the tubal ligation cannot be reversed."The doctor's words extinguished the last flicker of hope in my heart. In this lifetime, I might never have a child of my own.If that was the case, then Thomas and Lucy shouldn't expect to live in peace either.Suppressing the pain, I brought a lawyer and bodyguards with me, along with the divorce papers I had prepared long ago, and went to the hospital to find Thomas. He was personally tending to Lucy. Her face was slightly pale as she sat on the hospital bed, gazing at him with gentle affection. The two of them looked like a couple deeply in love.My arrival shattered that fragile calm."What are you doing here?" Thomas snapped the moment he saw me, his emotions flaring. "You've alre

I stared at Thomas's face. That familiar face now felt utterly foreign. And the things he was saying only confirmed my suspicions. All that talk about being pressured into having a child—it had just been an excuse to brush me off.The truth was, the one he had always loved was her. The person he wanted a child with had never been me.The tears came without restraint, spilling from my eyes until his figure blurred.Thomas seemed to realize he'd said the wrong thing. He hurriedly grabbed my hand. "I spoke without thinking just now, Michelle. Don't take it to heart."You're my only wife. I know how good you've been to me, how much you've given to this family. You've always wanted a child. Now that I have one, you should be happy."In the future, you can be the child's mother too.
