I arrived wet all thanks to that annoying human. Mrs. Elena just couldn't stop talking, telling me why I walked under the rain, and said she'll grab me a coat, she's just too nice.
“I'm fine, thank you,” I pleaded but she was still insisting.
“Don't worry, Sebastian will get you a coat and a change of clothes,” she insisted and I couldn't push further.
“Sebastian!”
My heart was left reeling when I took a glance at him. He couldn't help but scream at me as his face quickly folded into a thick scowl.
“You!” He cried and I didn't say a word, neither did my face move in surprise or any reaction. My composure was firm, despite the awkwardness of the situation.
Mrs. Elena and Dad just watched in awe, their eyes widened in shock.
“You know each other?” She asked, her brows raised.
We just stared at each other and I saw the intimidation and insecure looks in those blue eyes of his. His fist folded and his jaw tightened, his stance toughened and his gaze was unwavering.
The awkward moment lingered for a few seconds and I finally ended it. I didn't want Dad worrying too much again about me.
“No,” I smiled. “I guess he's just surprised to see me,” I chuckled and patted his shoulder softly. My grip tightened on his shoulder bone softly as I stared at him and we smiled awkwardly and our parents just giggled.
The moment they looked away, he quickly yanked my hands off him and the soft wheeze made them turn sharply but we smiled quickly at them and walked with them to the table.
He sat directly opposite me on the table, while Dad sat with her, his hands crossed around her waist.
“The meal is good,” I complimented firstly, even though it didn't meet my expectations, but it was disrespectful to not compliment and acknowledge the effort of the chef.
She smiled warmly and was basting in the warmth of my flattery when he spat with pride.
“Why won't it?” He snarled with a low tone. “It's much better than anything you've ever had, I guess,” he muttered and I raised an eyebrow and smiled warmly.
They didn't hear what he said and I liked that, in as much as I don't like him, I don't want our parents to notice the tension between us. And to be honest, there's just a simple way to handle people like him.
“Uhm, Mrs Elena, forgive me, but I like my food spicy,” I pleaded with a charming smile and his face only folded further. “Could you please tell my brother here to grab me some pepper from the kitchen?”
Funny how his face looked now like a Halloween masquerade, but he wasn't scary enough. I just savoured the moment and chuckled softly with her.
“Oh, forgive me darling. I'll note that,” she replied and then turned to him. “Sebastian? What are you waiting for? Go grab it,” she cautioned and he rose up sharply and stared at me coldly, his fist tightening on the fork and she scolded him again.
“Sebastian!”
He grumbled and headed out but still, he'd still serve me.
“I see you both are already getting along,” she giggled at me once again. I was enjoying this game, calling him brother was the right start.
Moments later, he came racing over and slammed it before me, shaking everyone on the table.
“Sebastian?!” She turned to him quickly with a cold scowl.
“It's fine,” I tapped her gently with a charming smile and the dripping water touched her again.
This was when she remembered I hadn't changed my clothes and turned to me angrily.
“Why didn't you tell Sebastian to get you some clothes?” She scolded but my expression was warm and respectful.
“It's fine, don't worry, I'm fine.”
But she ignored me and turned to Sebastian.
“Go grab him some clothes!” She ordered but he sighed deeply in front of everyone, mumbling all over the place.
“I can't give him my clothes mom, you know I don't share!” He said, his voice heavy with disgust as he stared at me.
“Its not as if I need them,” I snapped in my mind. I fought hard to keep up my smile and Mrs Elena was stubborn too and scolded him quickly.
“He's no stranger, Sebastian! Let that sink into your head. He's your brother. Get him some clothes!” She snapped immediately, her voice shaking the place.
Dad's arm wrapped around her, caressing her and calming her softly.
I didn't want more drama, and he couldn't escape it.
“Come on!” He quickly stormed away and she turned to him with a cold death stare, but I tapped her gently and smiled and ran off.
I know they'll talk about it, and I hope he respects himself with me here, I really don't want a fight now and here.
Our footsteps echoed and his door creaked open. Just as I was about to walk in, he slammed it, but I was quick and dodged sharply.
“What's that?!” Her voice rang out with panic.
“Nothing!” I replied and rushed in.
He just tossed a shirt and a pair of joggers to me.
I didn't say a word to him, I just changed up.
“Don't stain my clothes with your…”
I didn't let him finish, I hate that word he was about to use again on me.
“I didn't ask for it…” I calmly replied and headed out, calmly waiting for him to rush out and I slammed the door in his face too.
He was also quick and dodged skillfully, turning to me with a growl.
We walked back downstairs, he was behind me and she teased me softly.
“You look good in those,” she complimented and I bowed in respect.
“Thank you,” but he nodged me from behind as if he didn't see me there.
I quickly regained my stance, covering up the act completely and just winked at him.
His face folded strongly as I took a seat, but her voice lit up the area again.
“So, uhm, boys, I was thinking, we all move in together…” she didn't even finish when we chorused.
“What?!”
I didn't know when the word escaped my lips and her look at me was that of dismay. I quickly smiled and apologized.
“Nah, I meant that would be great.”
Her face beamed with joy and she didn't even turn to Sebastian who was staring at me just as if he would devour me if he got any closer.
She turned to my dad and stroked his beard softly and kissed him.
I cleared my throat and faced my meal and they just chuckled.
“What do you think darling?” She asked, caressing his hand.
“It's a good idea,” he chimed in and I struggled to hold my words back and had to cough.
“Sorry my dear, Sebastian, get him some water,” she begged.
He just turned to me, and then to her and slammed the table hard with his fist and left angrily.
“Sebastian!”
SEBASTIAN'S POV"She is actually here."I stared at the ceiling in the dark with Eli beside me and tried to process the fact that Maya was two doors down with Bianca right now and the world had shifted in a way nobody had planned for."Yes." Eli replied flatly."She flew here in three hours." I said."Sebastian." Eli said."I am just saying." I said. "Three hours. No warning. Third door on the left.""Go to sleep." Eli said."I cannot sleep." I said."Try." Eli said.I stared at the ceiling."Eli." I said."Hmm." He replied."Do you think they are okay in there?" I said."Yes." He replied."Like actually okay." I said."Sebastian." He said."I am just—""They are fine." He said. "Bianca is fine. Maya is fine. The second door on the left is fine. Everything is fine." He paused. "Go to sleep."I stared at the ceiling for another moment."I am happy for her." I disclosed quietly. "Bianca. I am genuinely happy for her."Eli was quiet for a moment."Me too." He replied. Quieter this time.
BIANCA'S POV"Can I kiss you?"Maya was three inches away and looking at me with those eyes of hers and I had been waiting four months to hear those four words and now that they were sitting in the air between us in this kitchen I genuinely could not move."Bianca." She said quietly."Yes." I said."Yes you can hear me or yes I can—""Yes you can kiss me Maya." I said. She kissed me.Soft and certain and nothing like the careful managed version of myself I had been performing for four months in this house. Just her mouth on mine and her hand still against my jaw and the kitchen light and the specific smell of her perfume and everything I had been keeping carefully warm for four months breaking completely open.I kissed her back. She pulled back slightly and looked at me from very close."Hi." She said again. Quietly."Hi." I said back. My voice completely different from thirty seconds ago."Four months." She said."Four months." I confirmed."Bianca." She said."I know." I said."Do n
BIANCA'S POV"You walked in on WHAT?"Maya's voice came out so loud in the kitchen that I grabbed her arm immediately."Maya." I warned."Bianca." She stared at me. "A collar. A leash. The man was on the FLOOR.""Keep your voice down." I urged."I am keeping my voice down." She insisted. Her voice still absolutely not down. "I walked into a room and there was a man on the floor with a leather collar around his neck and your—" She stopped. "Who even was that? With the leash?""That is Eli." I disclosed."Eli." She repeated."Sebastian's fiancé." I disclosed. She stared at me."His fiancé." She repeated slowly."Yes." I confirmed."The man on the floor." She said. "Is engaged.""To Eli." I confirmed. "Yes."She pulled out a chair and sat down very deliberately at the kitchen table.I sat across from her.We looked at each other across the table in the kitchen light and I felt the specific extraordinary surreal feeling of having two completely separate chapters of my life sitting in the
ELI'S POV"Kneel down."Sebastian stared at me like I had suggested something completely unreasonable.I stared back."We talked about this for two evenings." I said flatly."I know that." He replied."You said yes to everything." I said."I know I said yes." He replied."So." I said.He looked at the floor for a second. Then he knelt. No drama after that. Just him on his knees in his own room and me standing in front of him and the lamplight warm and low and the house quiet around us.I crouched in front of him."Word." I said."Red." He replied."Good." I said. "Breathe."He breathed.I picked up the collar from the nightstand. Soft leather. Dark brown. Small silver ring. Nothing heavy. Just present. He stared at it."Still good?" I asked."Yeah." He replied. "Yeah I'm good."I fastened it around his neck carefully. Two fingers between the leather and his skin. The silver ring caught the lamplight.I stepped back and looked at him.And I was damn sure I was not prepared for what hap
SEBASTIAN'S POV"She is withdrawing the filing."Lucas put his coffee cup down and said it like he was reporting the weather.I stared at him. "When?""Her new lawyer filed the withdrawal this morning." He picked his cup back up. "It is done."Eli looked up from his plate.Bianca reached for the juice without looking at either of us.The kitchen was completely ordinary. Toast. Eggs. Lucas's newspaper. Morning light through the window. Tuesday deciding to be Tuesday regardless of everything happening inside it."You knew last night." I said slowly."You needed to sleep." He replied simply. He picked up his newspaper. "You have not slept properly in three weeks."I looked at Eli.He looked back at me with the corner of his mouth doing the thing it did when he was trying not to smile."The board investigation continues regardless." Lucas confirmed from behind his newspaper. "Separate proceedings. She understands that." Another page turn. "She is cooperating fully."The kitchen was quiet.
BIANCA'S POV"He actually said yes."I dropped onto the floor of my room with my back against the bed and looked at Eli sitting cross legged across from me surrounded by half packed boxes and the specific warm chaos of a room being dismantled."He got down on those stairs and said marry me and you said yes." I noted."We were already sitting." Eli replied flatly."You got engaged on a staircase.""Technically.""While Lucas was dropping things in the kitchen.""Yes.""And I was shouting from upstairs.""Also yes."I looked at him for a long moment."That is the most you two thing that has ever happened in the entire history of you two." I told him.He folded something carefully and put it in the open box beside him without looking up."How are you actually?" He inquired.I looked at the room around me. Three boxes packed. Two still open. My coat on the back of the chair. The lamplight warm and low. One week left in this house and everything that meant sitting in my chest in a way I ha
SEBASTIAN'S POVI watched him drag those guys to the side and they both whispered words I wasn't sure of but I knew that he had pleaded with them and then they turned to leave but the Jayden bastard stopped as soon as he got closer to where I was.“You should really thank Eli for saving your life.
Eli's POV I had dragged him down to my house and had even forced him to come in, thankfully dad wasn't home yet. Though he had called me that he was coming home back real soon but I had to take care of Sebatian first.I would make sure dad doesn't meet me here with him and definitely not because h
Eli'S POV “I just want to bring you out of poverty the same way my mom wants to do with your dad.” Those words don't seem to stop ringing in my ears.Every silence, every minute of peace my mind kept going back to what Sebastian had said two days ago. The more I thought about it the angrier I beca
Eli'S POVI was on my way home when my phone rang, I answered even without checking the caller id.“Hello?” I answered unsure of who was calling. There was a soft chuckle from the caller and then silence. My face immediately twisted into a frown as I had gotten no responses. I took the phone from
