I knocked on the door to the record room before stepping in, to see Renzo behind a desk, at the corner of the room. "Hello Renzo." I gave a little awkward wave, moving closer to him with a brown envelope in my hand. The smell of old books and paper was in the air, coupled with the sound of the air-conditioner buzzing at the corner of the room. Renzo flicked his eyes to me behind his desk, his short jet black hair serving as a boundary. He sat up shortly and raked a hand through his hair, pushing the ones that had managed to come to his face away. Renzo glanced at me, his eyes shifting from my face to the file I had in my hand and back to my face, "Officer." He acknowledged me, gesturing to the file I had in my hand.

"The captain said I should give these to you to document," I handed him the brown envelope I walked here with and turned away from him quickly. Not quick enough to not catch the slow smirk that spread across his face. That smirk stretched slow, like he knew something I d

My chest heaved as I wiped the beads of sweat that had formed on my forehead. I took a minute off before I began punching the punching bag again. It went back and forth as I switched to kicking it hard. I should stop visiting her. I'd get Elias to drive her away from the Black Rose, it's too dangerous. But knowing her, she won't back down. I don't even know her so why do I keep sounding like I do? Everything about her was just so familiar. The perfect shape of her face, her plump lips and eyes, and that beautiful red hair. She'd hurt herself the last time I was there, digging her nails so deep into her skin, she bled. Fuck, how sharp were those nails? Her scent was registered in my brain and had done something to me the moment I stepped foot in her house. I wanted to take her away, and have her all to myself. But that'll be stupid. I had a fucking mafia to run. And these stupid thoughts had to go. She was nothing but an officer who didn't know her place.I let my eyes close as I thre

Cassien's gaze did not leave mine as he opened his mouth to speak but said nothing. Quietly, he let go of my hand and moved away from me. My body thrashed internally at the absence of him, heat spreading more in my stomach. I swallowed hard as I watched him place the rose on the table beside my bed. Those dark bushy brows and magnificent jawline, the texture of his hair as it grazed my skin and most of all, the mark I'd noticed some time back just above his eyebrow. The mark on his eyebrow would've been a blow to anyone's facial feature, but to him, reverse was the case. That scar enhanced his features, making him emit handsome and dangerous.I watched him leave just the same way he got in, hoping that he'd atleast look back at me. But that didn't happen. He walked away, melting back into the shadows like he'd never been there at all.I stared at the empty space where he'd been standing. The scent of lavender hung in the air like a ghost. I was left once again in the space of my room,

"Yo-you what?" I stuttered, staring at him in disbelief. He must have had a mental illness before now. Why would the Maestro bother to drop me a rose, let of all, come see if I got it? Ridiculous."I said I—" he began to say but I immediately cut him off. "I heard what you said and it doesn't make any sense.""Have it in whatever way you want detective." He dropped one of his hand that was in the air, slowly, as he saw I'd sharpened my gaze at him. He dipped the hand into his pocket and retrieved another black rose, fresh and its thorn neatly plucked. "I got you another and I'd already gotten all the sharp edges out." He said, raising his arm up again, to match the other. My aim on him didn't falter, I made sure to keep my fingers on the trigger as I stared at him, disbelief and confusion knotting in my chest. "You do know I'm set out to kill you?" My voice was low as I noticed the smile on his face dropped and was replaced with a malicious smirk. He let the rose drop from his hand t

The distance to my house from the station felt like it tripled, minus the fact I had to stop for gas on my way. After sighing more times than I can count and struggling to push the complain down my throat, I reached my apartment block. It had gotten dark now, with only the buzz of streetlights and electricity. I slid my keys into the lock and opened the door to my place. If anyone had seen the speed I used to fling my boot away and loosen the band on my hair, they'd me mistake me for the flash, I'm sure. The door closed shut with a click and the lights came on, once I flipped the switch just besides the door.I quickly searched for something quick to eat, not wanting to come out to the living room once I'd stepped into my bedroom. I finished up with the food and cleared up the kitchen, making sure to wash, clean and dry every utensil used. This was why I stuck with eating out, it was less stressful and time consuming. I stifled a yawn as I finished with the last of the ceramic plates

Fucking ball! I leaned into my black office chair and kicked away from the wooden table. I let out a sigh as I stared up at the silver chandelier that hung from the ceiling. My study was quiet, just like it always was. The only sound coming from the buzz of the air-conditioner as it blew in cool air. I had popped the first two buttons of the black shirt and loosened the band on my jet black hair earlier. I brought my hand up to run through the length of my hair. I might need to trim it, now that this ball's coming up. This is the one thing I wasn't able to stop when I assumed head of the Black Rose. This stupid fucking ball. Ballo del Diavolo. Ballo del Diavolo.I sat properly to lean across my table and grab the pack of cigarettes and lighter I'd placed there. I was just about to light a stick that was already in between my lips when I heard a rasp on my door. I didn't bother raising my voice, just muttered a flat "Come in," the grey coloured lighter in my hand sparking to life. E
