The next day came and I was still drowning in it, still feeling the weight of Ava's death pressing down on my chest like something physical I couldn't shake off. My mind drifted everywhere and nowhere all at once, bouncing between memories of her laugh, the way she'd winked at me from behind the bar, how she'd offered to help me without hesitation.
