As it turned out, the moment I was dragged into the trauma room to have my blood drawn, Aida rushed straight to the Elders’ Council to sound the alarm. With Wynne falling to the floor, Sullivan asked worriedly, “What’s wrong, Wynne?” Wynne didn’t say a word. Wobbling to her feet, Wynne extended her shaking hand toward me. Sullivan hesitated for a moment. In the end, he headed toward where I was. He barely took two steps when a panicked gasp broke out behind him. “What’s wrong, Lena?” Lena’s body went limp as she dropped right into Wynne’s arms. As blood rushed from his face, Sullivan rushed back to Lena’s side.The medical staff crowded around in a frenzy, scrambling to wake her and running more tests on her. Lena, her eyes half-open, grabbed Sullivan’s hand feebly. With tear-rimmed eyes, she spoke in a shaky voice. “Sullivan, I feel so dizzy and awful. Can you stay with me a little while?” She looked past the crowd to cast a glance in my direction. Lena raised her voice, her tone choked with sobs. “Odette, I’m so scared. I feel much safer with Sullivan next to me. “Would you mind letting him stay with me for a bit? Pretty please…” Sullivan’s voice practically melted. “Just hold on a moment, Odette. Lena needs me right now. It’ll only be a minute.” I didn’t offer a reply.

The tormenting pain vanished all at once. My body had never felt lighter. Confused, I looked around in a daze, only to realize I was hovering in midair. I lowered my gaze and spotted a she-wolf who looked just like me lying on the examination table in the corner. However, the she-wolf looked rather terrifying. Her lips were caked with dried blood, her face ashen gray, her neck flopped limply to one side, and her abdomen was swollen, showing no signs of life. It hit me that I was dead.
