Chapter 8

ผู้เขียน: Bagel
Beginning the next day, the Moretti family tried frantically to contact me.

Phone calls, emails, they even sent people directly to the O'Connell building.

But I refused to see anyone.

Instead, I continued my revenge.

"How are the preparations for the Atlantic City casino acquisition?" I asked my legal team in my office.

"Everything is ready," the lead counsel reported. "We've secured enough shares to launch a hostile takeover."

"Excellent." I stroked my wine glass. "That's the Moretti family's most important source of cash flow."

Declan walked in. "There's news from the international banks. The Swiss have agreed to freeze the Moretti family's main accounts."

"The amount involved?"

"Approximately eighty million dollars." I nodded, satisfied.

Now, the Moretti family was cornered, in both the legitimate world and the underworld.

Just then, my secretary knocked.

"Miss O'Connell, Don Moretti is here. He says he must see you."

I glanced at the security monitor and saw the once-imposing Don s

Carina had planted evidence of communication with the Rossi family in Vincent's car and forged documents in his office detailing the betrayal of Moretti family secrets. Then she "leaked" this evidence to the Morettis, making them believe Vincent had betrayed their alliance. In our world, there's only one price for betrayal.Vincent was shot on sight by the Don's men, dying without ever knowing he was nothing more than a scapegoat.I had to admit, even now, Carina's methods were impressive. She had eliminated Vincent and given a rival family the perfect excuse to attack the Morettis.Just then, my phone rang.It was Marco.I stared at the name on the screen, hesitated for a few seconds, and then answered."Sister..." Marco's voice was weak, with the sound of intense gunfire in the background. "I was wrong..."I gripped the phone tightly, listening to that familiar yet distant voice. The brother who had once protected me."Marco." My voice was as calm as still water."I know... I know yo

"Moretti stock is down twenty percent," Declan reported with the latest data."Keep shorting it." I gently swirled the wine in my glass. "I want them ruined."My mother walked in, as elegant as ever. "Alessia, they will be at the gala tonight.""I know." I stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking Manhattan. "It's been eight years. It's time they met the real Alessia.""Are you ready to face them?" my mother asked with concern."Mom, the Alessia who humbled herself for them is dead." I turned, a cold fire burning in my eyes. "What they're about to face is A.O. The one who's bleeding the Moretti family dry."Three days later, at the most luxurious hotel in Manhattan, the O'Connell Family's Annual Charity Gala officially began.I stood before a mirror, dressed in a black evening gown.Six months of training had completely transformed me.I was no longer the meek, pleasing Alessia, but a cold, decisive queen of vengeance."Ready?" Declan walked in, wearing a suit ador

Footsteps sounded from upstairs, and Carina came down in her nightgown."Brother, you're back? Let me warm up some milk for you."Marco nodded, but a strange irritation gnawed at him.Carina brought the milk. The glass was clean, the temperature just right. But as he drank, he knew something was wrong.Just then, Don Moretti also emerged from his study."You're all still awake?" he asked wearily."Are you still dealing with that arms deal, Papa?" Marco asked."Their terms are too harsh. I can't think of a good counter-strategy," Don Moretti said, rubbing his temples.Carina said softly, "You're working too hard, Papa. Maybe you should think about it tomorrow."Don Moretti nodded, but a voice surfaced in his mind:"Papa, maybe we can leverage the shipping route. If we assume the additional transport risk, they might concede on the price."It was Alessia's voice. On a similar deal two years ago, her advice had earned them an extra three hundred thousand. She could always see angles no on

My eyes widened as my brain struggled to process the information."Who... who would poison me? Who wanted me dead?"My mother walked to the window, clenching her fists. "Remember the glass of milk Carina prepared for you every night before bed?""And the pastries she baked herself, the nutritional soups she claimed were good for you, every 'loving' dose of vitamins..." She turned, her eyes burning with rage. "Every single one contained a trace amount of the poison."The memories flashed through my mind like a film reel. Those nights, Carina would bring a glass of warm milk to my room, her eyes full of concern. "Sister, this will help you sleep better. The doctor said you need more nutrients."She was always "thoughtfully" preparing supplements for me. "I made this specially for you. It's good for your health."And I, like a goddamn fool, had gratefully drunk and eaten every last bit of it."No... impossible..." I shook my head, trembling. "How could she... she was just an orphan, she

"Enough!" Don Moretti slammed his coffee cup down. "I don't want to hear that ungrateful daughter's name at breakfast.""Don, please, you have to listen to me!" Antonio was nearly in tears. "Miss Alessia isn't responding! I think she might be...""Be what?" Marco finally looked up, his face a mask of impatience. "Behaving herself?"Carina put on a worried expression. "Papa, maybe we should go check on sister? What if she's really not feeling well...""She's faking! It wouldn't be the first time." Marco stood up. "Fine. I'll go see what kind of drama she's staging this time."Don Moretti and the others followed him to the cell. At the door, Marco kicked the iron gate. "Alessia! Stop playing dead! Get up!"Silence from within."I said get up! Do you hear me?!" Marco's voice rose."Don," Antonio said, his voice trembling, "I really don't think this is right...""Move!" Marco shoved Antonio aside and peered through the slot in the door.He saw Alessia, her body already cold and stiff.Marc
