Chapter 2

作者: coco
The frosted glass door opened, and a woman stepped out, wrapped only in Leonardo's oversized robe. Her golden hair shone under the light, her skin was pale, and her figure was undeniably striking. The robe hung loosely, revealing far more than it should.

When she saw me, she didn't even flinch. Instead, she arched an eyebrow provocatively, strolled over to Leonardo, linked her arm through his, and leaned against his chest.

She said coyly, "Leon, about the brand I represent…"

Leonardo leaned back slightly and took a sip of whiskey. "Someone will get in touch with you. You can go now."

She gave a sweet "Okay" and went back to the bedroom to change.

When she returned, I recognized her as Tasha Monroe, a rising mixed-blood model in the fashion world. Rumor had it she was a hybrid of black and snow wolf.

As she neared the door, Tasha stopped and sized me up, then turned to Leonardo, her grin playful. "Leon, this is your mate, right? Human? Is she better than me in bed?"

He didn't even look at her and said simply, "Leave."

Tasha then sashayed out of the room.

Leonardo got dressed and came over, leaning down to press a soft kiss to my hair while resting an arm around my waist.

It felt exactly like all the other times, as if nothing had occurred.

"Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? I can take you right now."

I stayed frozen. He raised an eyebrow and lightly traced circles along my waist.

"Are you upset, or just tired? The master bedroom is a mess. We'll sleep in the guest room tonight."

I had always known how flirtatious and reckless he could be. From the moment I agreed to be with him five years ago, I should have seen this coming.

I broke free from his touch and stepped back. "Leonardo, it's over between us."

My voice was soft, but every single word rang clear.

The room was quiet for a long moment. I looked up and saw Leonardo staring at me, as if trying to decide whether this was just another one of my dramatic outbursts. Then, he smiled.

As he leaned in toward me, I saw the pale reflection of my face in his golden-brown eyes.

"Over?"

He tilted his head thoughtfully. "Bella, how old were you when I first met you? 19, or 20?"

I remembered that night at the Salvatore family gala, serving among pureblood wolves. My thick bangs covered half my face, and my plaid shirt was buttoned all the way to the neck. I was the only human there, lost in a den of wolves.

He straightened and smoothed the cuffs of his shirt. "I asked if you would be my woman. You blushed and nodded without hesitation. I'm a pureblood werewolf, the next Alpha of the Silverpine Pack. I could even make you my Luna, but I could never have just one woman. Do you remember what you said?"

He gave me a faint smile. "You agreed."

Tears stung my eyes, and I could barely hold back a sob. "So now that I want to break up, you're trying to threaten me?"

Leonardo reached out and brushed the tears from my cheeks that I hadn't noticed falling. He soothed me as if I were a frightened child.

"It's alright, Bella. I know this was my fault. I promise you, it's the first time, and it will be the last. I won't bring another woman home again."

He held my shoulders and gently turned me toward the floor-to-ceiling mirror, resting his chin on my shoulder.

In the reflection, I saw his confidence, his total lack of guilt, and my own tear-streaked face. "Do you know how old that woman was? She is 21. If I'm not mistaken, you're 26 this year, right?"

He leaned in, brushing his lips against my ear as he whispered, "Instead of using childish tricks to threaten me, focus on how to please me. You are the one I love most. The others are just distractions. Why do you care about them?"

I stared at my reflection, feeling a strange sense of distance.

How did that 19-year-old waitress, the naive girl who thought holding a werewolf's hand meant she had the whole world, become so tired, broken, and worn?

I shrugged slightly, and he lifted his head from my shoulder.

In a rough but steady voice, I said, "No, Leonardo. I want to sever our mate bond. We're finished."

Leonardo chuckled softly and nodded. "Fine. I understand. We're finished."

He glanced out the window, then cupped my face and kissed me. He held the kiss until my breathing grew shallow, then slowly let me go.

Leonardo walked to the door and glanced back. "Make sure the staff cleans up the room. I have company matters to handle. We'll take care of the rest when I get back."

The door closed, leaving me standing still for a long while. Salvatore Manor was so quiet that I could hear my own heartbeat.

As he said, I had loved him. I had loved him enough to forgive his repeated mistakes and set aside my pride. However, I had a limit, and that limit was loyalty.

Ending a relationship didn't require his permission, but severing a mate bond did.

I unlocked my phone and found the number I had never used before. It belonged to Sebastian Buckley, the Alpha King.

I typed, "Alpha King, I want to sever my mate bond with Leonardo."

After my company went public, its value skyrocketed, and it quickly became a rising force in the industry. Leonardo wasn't always easy, but his intelligence and insight were exceptional. In those early days, when he had some free time, he would patiently walk me through things. Once my career was on solid ground, Mom finally stopped hounding me about getting married.Whenever neighbors asked, she would snap, "Stop nagging. Whether my daughter gets married or not is none of your business."I never intended to stay single forever. Later, I saw the wedding dress Leonardo had picked out for me. He knew my taste perfectly. It was gorgeous, but I still didn't say yes. He only smiled and said, "I can wait. One day, you'll want to wear it."He was still that same confident, self-assured Leonardo. I smiled lightly.Even though Leonardo appeared confident on the surface, he would turn to Isaac whenever he drank too much at night. He was completely alone, with no one to help him, so he

When Leonardo flew overnight from Ravencroft to my apartment in Gilmoria, the door behind me stood wide open.Through the doorway, he saw a shirtless man with a flawless physique and striking, pure-blood features. He was Alpha King Sebastian. Anyone who wasn't a fool could tell what had happened in this room the night before.Leonardo crushed his cigarette underfoot and looked at me and Sebastian from across the room. Then, he smiled faintly. Before he could say anything, I pressed a kiss to Sebastian's cheek and motioned for him to leave.Sebastian glanced at Leonardo, raised an eyebrow, and obediently walked out. After Sebastian left, Leonardo didn't approach me. I expected him to throw a fit, but he simply stood still with his back to me, resting his hand on the doorframe for a long time. After a while, he turned around. He walked a few steps and bent down in front of me.His eyes were red, and he clenched his teeth as if trying to suppress his anger."Isabella," he said, lo

I shook my head and typed a question into the search bar on my computer."Is it too late for a woman to start a business at 26?"A flood of posts popped up. I clicked into one, and the first comment caught my eye."I'm in Gilmoria. What if I told you one of my coworkers is 65 this year? You'll never be younger than you are right now."I smiled to myself. I already knew my decision long ago. Looking for answers like this was just another way of reassuring myself.A few days later, Mom told me she had gone back to Ravencroft, and Leonardo had returned there as well for some last-minute matter. When I told her I wanted to start my own business, she immediately shut it down. "Have you lost your mind from working too much? You're 26, and you still want to start a business? The most important thing for you right now is to get married."I knew she wouldn't accept it so easily. But from the moment she sent me to study in Ravencroft, she should have realized my world would never be small

After that day, Leonardo didn't leave. He bought an apartment near my place and started dropping by the cafe whenever he had time. Sometimes, he ran into Daniel.Daniel wasn't as fearless. After a few run-ins, he stopped coming. On the day he returned to Bergland, I treated him to dinner. He drank more than he should have, watching me the whole time. "If I'd come earlier, or even later, it would've been fine. Why did it have to be now?"I couldn't help but ask myself why it had to be now.I had never really let go. It was only after everything fell apart that I realized I was the only one who could pull myself out.I raised my glass. "Until next time."Leonardo had always been good with words, but after seeing that I had barely reacted over the past few days, he changed his approach and started trying to win over Mom instead.Even though he was born into privilege as a werewolf heir, he learned to carry trays, tally bills, and handle the books. Some customers were tricky, and I

A month after returning home, Mom's initial warmth had worn thin, and impatience had taken its place. I had quit my job without warning, and she hadn't asked me a single question about it. Instead, she complained about her restless nights and relentlessly pushed me toward blind dates. One night, I slipped into her room and shook her awake. "You said you couldn't sleep, yet here you are sleeping like a log."Mom slapped my shoulder. "You little brat!"I gave in, and finally, under her constant persuasion, agreed to meet a potential match. I was surprised when the man showed up. He had broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and perfectly proportioned features. His high nose, thin lips, and gold-rimmed glasses made him look polished and reserved.I could hardly believe it. Did someone like him actually exist here? Mom wasn't trying to trick me, was she?Throughout the meal, our conversation flowed with ease. Every word he spoke seemed to genuinely lift my spirits. Either he had practiced t

From the moment I returned to the office, I hadn't shifted my gaze from the papers before me. I was working on a major project that was about to be signed, and I couldn't afford to lose focus for a single second. Before meeting the partners, I downed two cans of iced coffee to shake off the fog from a sleepless night. The company was a new investment firm based in the city center.Alex Winslow, the young boss, looked vaguely familiar. His relaxed demeanor and pale gray eyes instantly revealed his werewolf nature. It wasn't until Leonardo walked in that I realized why he seemed familiar.Alex ran his office informally, so even someone like Leonardo could come and go during meetings. They exchanged greetings, and Leonardo didn't look at me once. When Alex asked him to review the project plan, he sat down and read through the pages carefully.I forced myself to stay calm, though my palms were sweating. I knew this group of werewolf nobles better than anyone. If Leonardo said no,
