LOGINLisa's POV
I sat on the edge of my bed with the lights dimmed, staring at the fresh bandage wrapped around my palm. The cut still throbbed beneath the gauze, every pulse brought back the sound of breaking glass, the sudden force of Adrian pulling me aside, and the weight of my father’s unfinished words.
The glasshouse, the letter, the look in Adrian’s eyes when he realized I didn’t know the full truth overwhelmed me. “Hmmm..”
I pressed my uninjured hand against my forehead, Seventeen in body but Far older in memory and the decisions ahead of me no longer felt simple.
A soft knock jolted me out of my thoughts.
“Lisa?” My mother’s voice, I tugged my sleeve down to cover most of the bandage. “Come in.”
She stepped inside, still composed even at this hour, though concern already sat in her expression. “My child… where have you been? You disappeared for hours.”
“I needed air.” Her eyes dropped to my hand, the moment she noticed the bandage, her brows drew together. “What happened to your hand?”
“It’s nothing. Just a small cut.”
She moved closer. “Let me se…..”
Her words cut off as one heel slid sharply across the floor making her balance vanish. I reached for her, but I wasn’t fast enough.
She fell hard, the sound of her body hitting the floor punched the air from my lungs.
“Mother!”
I dropped to my knees beside her, her face had gone pale as a sharp breath of pain escaped making attempt to shift.
“My ankle… or my back.. I don’t know—”
I looked down there was a thin, clear sheen spread across the floor near the entrance of my room.
Oil??
My pulse stuttered…My room was nowhere near the kitchen, there was no reason for oil to be here. Someone had put it there…that aside for now.
“Don’t move,” I said, keeping my voice steady even as my hands went cold. “I’m calling for help.”
The estate came alive within minutes, Footsteps, Voices and Urgent calls everywhere. My mother’s assistant was already on the phone by the time I returned to her side. When the private ambulance arrived, I followed without allowing myself to shake.
At the hospital, everything moved too quickly.
White coats, bright lights, overlapping voices, yes it's an emergency case but the patient involved is Mrs LONERIA …..the buzzling is expected.
Then I heard the words that locked my spine in place. “Hale Pharmaceuticals has already been notified, their specialists are on the way.”
I stepped forward. “Not needed.”
The attending doctor turned, surprised. “Miss Loneria, Hale specialists are the best for……”
“I said no.” My voice remained level, but it cut cleanly through the hallway. “You will not let anyone from Hale Pharmaceuticals near my mother.” The corridor quieted.
A senior physician frowned. “With all due respect, ma'am, their medical division is highly advanced….”
“And Loneria Medical built its reputation long before theirs, my word is my word.” I replied curtly. “Call Dr. Han from our private wing. Now.”
The Silence was domineering. The senior doctor gave a short nod. “Do as Miss Loneria says.”
I did not move until I watched the HALE’s team being turned away at the entrance. Only then did the tightness in my chest loosen slightly.
Someone had spilled oil outside my door, Someone had wanted a fall to happen, probably expected me to fall for the Hale doctors to take control the moment it did happen.
I curled my bandaged hand and ignored the sting, this was no longer only about the past and I have to do something.
By the time I returned the floor had been cleaned already which made it worse.
“All workers gather here and give me a Fucking explanation.”
They gathered in the main hall, uncertain and tense. I stood at the base of the staircase and looked at each of them in turn.
“There was oil outside my bedroom door,” I said. “I want to know how it got there.”
No one answered….“Are y'all morons?” I coughed sightly realizing the slip of tongue, even though I'm not sorry about that.
“Who cleaned the kitchen last?” I fired back again, they kept on exchanging glances ald whimpering until One of the junior maids spoke weakly. “We finished before evening, Miss. Everything was left in order.”
“And no one carried anything upstairs afterward?”
I turned to the head of security. “Pull the surveillance footage for the east wing. From late afternoon until the moment my mother fell.”
“Yes, Miss Loneria.”
We watched the recordings in the security room, Corridor after corridor, empty hallways, servants passing at normal times no one lingering near my door, no one carrying bottles with mo visible spill being created.
Nothing!.. this must have been well planned and the absence of evidence sat heavier than a clear culprit would have.
“I guess we need new workers if so.” I yelled ready to sack everyone of them without a second thought.
“Child, you're not yet of age to make such decision because your parents are the employers.” Maria interrupted gently. I dismissed all the staff, their relief was quiet but visible as few still avoided my eyes as they left except Maria.
She had been part of the household for as long as I could remember, the woman who had bandaged my knees when I was small, who had waited up when I came home late, who had always spoken to me with a softness my own mother sometimes withheld.
She stepped closer now, her expression calm but firm.
“That’s enough for tonight,” she said quietly.
I didn’t look at her with my disturbed eyes. “Someone put that oil there.”
“I know you believe that.”
“I don’t believe it, I saw it.”
Maria’s voice stayed even. “And the cameras show nothing, the staff are shaken…if I hadn't stopped you and you push harder tonight, fear will spread faster than answers.”
I finally turned toward her, She met my gaze without flinching. “You have always been smart, Lisa. But not everything needs to be cut open the moment it appears huhnn. Let the house settle, let your mother rest and If something is wrong, it will definitely show itself again.” Her words were gentle, they should have soothed the old me, Instead, they left a cold edge beneath my ribs.
In my first life, I had accepted explanations too easily, I had trusted the people who smiled while they destroyed me, I had let things “settle” until there was nothing left of me to defend….but now? No ways…I drew a slow breath and nodded once.
“All right,” I said.
Maria’s shoulders eased, she reached out as if to touch my arm, then stopped herself and simply gave a small, familiar smile before leaving me alone in the hall.
The estate grew quiet again, I stood there long after she was gone, staring at the clean floor where the oil had been. Maria was right about one thing, “If something was wrong, it would show itself again.” And this time, I wwill be more than ready.
Four weeks later my mother was discharged. The estate felt different with her back in it, quieter in some ways, heavier in others. I had spent the morning reviewing the limited reports the temporary administrator still allowed me to see when the staff announced an unscheduled visitor.Richard’s father. …What a Wow!!I reached the main sitting room just as he was being shown in. My mother sat on the long sofa, still careful with her movements. He greeted her with polished warmth, but his eyes did not stay on her. They moved across the room, the doorways, the visible hall beyond, lingering a second too long on the spaces that led deeper into the house, measuring, assessing, like a man already deciding what could be taken.I stepped fully into the room.“Looking for something?” I asked. He turned, smile already in place. “Lisa. You’ve grown sharper since we last spoke.”“And you’ve grown bolder, walking through my house like you’re measuring it.”My mother’s voice cut in quickly, low and
Lisa walked into the Loneria private lounge at exactly 7:00 p.m. wearing a simple cream dress and a calm expression that cost her more effort than she wanted to admit, and Richard was already there, standing the moment she entered with surprise flickering across his face before he controlled it.“You asked to meet,” he said.“I did.” She sat without waiting for an invitation. “We need to talk about the court order.”Richard remained standing a second longer before taking the seat across from her, the table between them feeling wider than it should have.“I’ve already spoken to my father,” he said. “He’s not willing to withdraw the filing.”“I know.” Lisa kept her voice even. “That’s not why I’m here.”He watched her carefully. “Then why?”“Because fighting him head-on right now will only make the restrictions tighter. I need the company stable until I’m fully free of the order, that means fewer public clashes, that means you stop looking like the enemy in every room we share.”Richard
Adrian sat alone in the upper room of the Croft archive with two thin folders open under the low light, the paper edges already soft from how many times he had turned them, and the deeper he read the colder the picture became because both documents carried the same quiet poison, one set of signatures belonging to Lisa’s late father and the other belonging to Richard’s father, each page requiring the second man’s confirmation before certain private holdings and overseas transfers could be touched, and if either side discovered that these papers still existed the entire quiet path he had been building would collapse, so hacking was out of the question for now since any digital trace would light up every alarm the Hales still controlled. He closed the folders slowly and leaned back, jaw tight, already calculating slower routes that would not wake the wrong people. Across the city Lisa stood in front of her mirror with the court order still locked in her desk drawer and the silence from
Now, we both have our common enemies clear as crystal. “It's late Lisa, come spend a night at my place before your lurking enemies get you kidnapped on your way back.” “Huh” I stared at him in disbelief. “Spend a night at your place? You're so ridiculous.” I grabbed my purse, ready to walk out on him. “Hey hey hey little Lioness, hold up lets rub minds together.” Adrian cleared his throat softly, his arrogance and habit of always being right and smart is already getting on my last nerves but I need his alliance. “To get all you want done peacefully…you have to embrace Richard and treat him like you care.” Tsk. I hissed bluntly, I don't care about his feelings anymore, I refuse to be his puppet….”“Cut that crap right now Lisa, love rules above all. Yeah I know and we've seen that he's going to hurt you but we have to prevent it with Wisdom so he won't ally with his father and bring you down which will slow down our work.” “Makes sense.” my face twitched slightly again. “I'll t
OUTSMART THE Smartest The call ended up pissing me off the most as I sat on the edge of the bed with the phone still in my hand ... .My jaw was tight, my bandaged fingers pressed hard into the sheets, pressure from my anger won't let the glasscut heal. Adrian’s last words were still in my ear…“Change of plan. Meet me at the main restaurant instead. I will be late, Something urgent came up.”Then the line went dead.I stared at my phone…. Main restaurant, a public place that's always busy even at night. Not the old Croft building, my shoulders were already stiff with anger, and the sudden change only made it worse. I did not understand why he would switch locations at the last second. I only knew I needed to see him.I stood up too fast as the chair scraped against the floor. I pulled on a dark coat, shoved the phone into my pocket, and left my room without looking back. The hallway quietly complimented my swift movement, a maid stepped aside when she saw my face and did not ask wher
The summons came without warning. It arrived on heavy cream paper with the official seal of the city’s corporate and family court. A quiet clerk delivered it, she refused to answer questions, and left at once. I read the document in the study and byy the time I finished, my ears were ringing. The paper said that because I was still a minor and had shown recent erratic behavior, public confrontations, and decisions made without adult oversight, I was temporarily restricted from running Loneria International Medical Center and all related holdings until I turned eighteen. The order had been filed under emergency protective rules.I read it twice, then a third time... The words did not feel real. When I finally put the paper down, my hands stayed steady only because I forced them to.Within the hour the board was told, within two hours some of the internal system locks began to change. By late afternoon a temporary administrator arrived with two silent aides. He spoke with cold polite
