Blood In The Boardroom
Dominic's POV Rome: Italy I walked into the room filled with the sharp scent of cigars and whiskey. My bodyguards followed behind me. The door opened, leading me into the boardroom, and I walked to the large mahogany table, sitting at the head chair. My gray eyes scanned the faces staring back at me. This was supposed to be a routine meeting to finalize a deal with Carlos Marchetti and the other Mafia bosses. “Welcome, Dominic,” Carlos said, puffing his cigar. “Took you long enough.” “Tell me Carlos,” I answered. “Everyone signed the papers except you. Why?” “I figured there was no need if you weren't present,” Carlos replied. “I am here now. Sign the papers or walk out of here empty-handed,” I replied coldly. Carlos sneered and reached for a pen one of his men handed to him. “You drive a hard bargain, Rossi.” My smile grew darker, not reaching my eyes as my gaze lingered. “That's why I'm still alive.” I watched Carlos scrawl his signature on the paper and he smiled. He had just signed the control of a lucrative arms route into my hands. From the corner of my eyes, I noticed one of my men, Antonio, shifted uncomfortably at the edge of the room. I turned my gaze swiftly, catching his movement. “Antonio,” I called. “Are you okay?” Antonio froze, his hand halfway to his pocket as he blinked continuously. “Y…yes, boss. I'm just itchy. That's all.” “Hmm,” I mumbled. My jaw tightened. “Is that so?” I asked calmly. I could see Carlos and the other men suddenly become uncomfortable and that made me even more suspicious. “Y…yes, sir,” Antonio responded “Alright,” I said. “Step forward.” Antonio hesitated, but obeyed. When he came closer, stepping into the light, I noticed his hands twitch again and that was all the confirmation I needed. I smiled, pulling out my gun with lightning speed and fired at him. The shot rang out, sending Antonio falling to the floor lifeless as blood pooled from under him. Half of the other men seated gasped as I placed the gun on the table. “Check his pockets,” I ordered, signaling one of my men with my finger and Matteo stepped forward. He began checking Antonio's lifeless body, pulling out a small recorder from Antonio’s jacket and a loaded pistol from Antonio's waist. “He was wired, sir,” Matteo said, raising the device for everyone to see. I turned my gaze to Carlos with a stern cold look. “Isn't that odd that your deal comes with an added bonus, Carlos?” Carlos' face immediately turned pale. “I had a spy among my men. Do you mind explaining this?” I asked. “Don't pin this on me. I had no idea. You can't possibly blame me for…” Carlos answered. “Enough!” I yelled, slamming my hand on the table. “Save your lies.” “Do you think I'm stupid? A new man I hired turns out to be recording our meeting. If I remember correctly, you have been meeting with him in secret,” I spoke. Carlos' eyes showed weakness for a second then returned to being cold. “It was a simple greeting. I have no business with your men,” Carlos answered. “So it would seem,” I responded and one of my men brought a file. I took it and threw it towards Carlos on the table. “I knew Antonio worked for you. Do you really think I won't catch up to this?” I asked. Carlos looked at the picture and dropped them back on the table. “This doesn't mean anything. A couple of pictures doesn't prove anything.” I stood with my cold gaze bearing into Carlos as I walked slowly daring him to make one wrong move. “I don't believe in coincidences, Carlos,” I said, stepping around the table. “Bold of you to think you can walk in here, make a deal and double cross me in my territory,” I said pointing a gun at the back of Carlos head and his men immediately pulled out a gun, aiming at me with my men reciprocating. He laughed loudly, and raised his hand in mock surrender. “Don't be a fool, Rossi. Killing me will only start a war.” “Good,” I muttered. “Then let it start.” My fingers tightened on the trigger and was ready to shoot when Matteo's phone buzzed. He glanced at the phone's screen and looked at me with urgency. “Boss, we've got company.” “Three black SUVs pulled up outside,” Matteo continued. “Expecting friends, Carlos?” I asked, still pressing the gun on Carlos' head. Carlos shook his hand. “I swear, I don't know who they are.” The fear was genuine in his voice. I gestured to Matteo with a nod. “Secure the exits. No one leaves until I say so.” Matteo nodded and walked out with some men. I still had the upper hand in the room as my men outnumbered the others by double. Within a few minutes, gunshots rang out from downstairs. The other men exchanged glances at the table. “Rossi,” one of the older men at the table spoke. “Your men are handling the issue downstairs. We should handle this here. Let Carlos go. There's been enough bloodshed today.” “Alberto, I believe you know the rules,” I said calmly. “Yes, and I also know if you wanted to kill Carlos. You would have done that the second you took your gun out,” Alberto answered. “Carlos is just as important as the rest of us and killing him would unleash chaos. You can deal with him later if he does have a hand in this,” Alberto continued. I withdrew my gun and dropped it on the table, taking my seat. Just then Matteo walked in with six others with blood splattered on them staining their white shirts and faces. “We got them boss,” Matteo said. Two other men walked in draghing one of the bodies, dropping it to the floor. “The meeting is dismissed,” I ordered and the other men left including Carlos. “The men had the signature pin of the De Luca,” Matteo said, taking the pain off the body and bringing it to me. I looked at the pin, realizing he was right. But the De Luca’s were supposed to be allies. Why would they turn against me? Or did someone pretend to be them to cause trouble? “Contact our informants. I want to know if the De Luca’s are playing games with me,” I ordered Matteo. “Yes, boss,” Matteo responded.Dominic's POV“You're an asshole,” Martina cursed. My head bent slightly as I watched her.“I have heard worse.”I heard her let out a breath and she hissed.“Do I need to remind you that you're in my office?” I asked. She shrugged and dropped her hands to her side. “Must you go all ogre on me. For the love of God, be nice for once.”“I am nice.”“Is it because of her?” She asked.“I don't like people butting their heads into my business. Especially my private life.”“It's not so private if you have some drama going on.”I rolled my eyes and pressed my fingers on both of my eyelids for some seconds before I sighed.“What do I have to do to get you out of my office?” I asked. I wasn't in the mood for her chit chat.“Can't you just let me talk to you?” She purred.“No,” I replied.“Hmph,” she scoffed.I went back to minding my business. She stood still for a minute then started towards the door.My hands dipped into my pocket pulling out the locket when she turned back and walked back t
Marco's POVDing. It was the 12th floor and the elevator announced the destination with the chime.I got out and entered the hotel’s corridor.Holding the key card tightly, I stopped to check the number on it.It matched with the door's number painted in gold. I slid the key into the slot. The light blinked green. The door clicked open.I walked in and a woman jerked up. She was in a mad uniform and had rubber gloves on. She was startled and her eyes widened.“Sorry,” I apologized quickly, entering the room. “I'm the new occupant of the room.”I raised the card to show my point. “You can finish what you're doing. I'll give you a moment.”She relaxed a little. “It's alright. I'm almost done.”She smiled, but it was weak. With a nod, I turned back and left the room before closing the door. Then my gaze fell to my watch. I had very few minutes before I lost my chance to find my target.I kept my head low and moved down the corridor, avoiding the four cameras. I made sure not to look susp
Alessia's POVDum-dum. Dum-dum.That was my heart racing wildly like a wild animal. What's this? No..no..no. This can't be right.I'm dreaming.I'm hallucinating.Aren't I?Those thoughts repeated in my head. It sounded so confusing. Yet all came crashing in a second. The door was probably messing with my head. But as I walked through the glass, the edge of my vision caught his reflection.I couldn't ignore it.The sound of my heartbeat increased and I thought I was getting close to the afterlife.I wasn't dead yet. It couldn't be him.My heart and mind synced at once, and called his name.Marco.M-A-R-C-O.My brother. My body continued to move, even as my brain went into slow motion. The door’s momentum had already thrust me outside, and I had nothing to stop it. The world turned and spun, and before I got a good look, I was outside in the morning air. The city noise slapped me in the face.I stopped. The glass door was turning again.I pulled my hoodie down quickly. The black baseba
Alessia's POVI turned off the television. The channels were boring. I had scrolled from one channel to another and even the cartoons didn't make me feel happy.Giving up, I sat on the bed in my night robe. The air conditioner hummed, making me glance up.You saved him. You shouldn't have. All I had was my mind judging for hours on how stupid my decision had been. I accepted my fate and groaned.I reached for my purse on the right side of my bed and opened it.My feet touched the carpet. They were also cold. I needed something warm. Without another moment to waste, I picked up the air conditioning remote and lowered the temperature. That felt way better. I returned my attention to the purse and pulled out the burner phone.I turned it on, and waited for any message to come in.Then it came. From a familiar number. Only one body was found. The second grave is empty. That didn't sit well. How could only one body be found? I had seen them die. There should have been two filled graves.Di
Dominic’s POVI stayed in my study. It was quiet and had dim lightning. I was filled with anger and paced around until I heard a beep sound. It came from my computer.I got to the table, and checked my computers then my phone on the table rang. The screen lit up.I picked it up, and answered without looking at the number.“That was fast,” Matteo’s voice said sharply.“Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you?” I raged.“I figured you’d be pissed,” he answered casually, but I could already hear the tension under his cool.“You let her come back,” I snapped. “You were supposed to protect her. And that includes not letting her return to Italy.”“She’s not exactly the easiest person to guard. You know that. I had to compromise.”“By compromise. You mean you let her out herself in harm's way. You know that's and you let it happen. Do you have any idea what she did?”He sighed. “Yeah, I know. But she’s tougher than you give her credit for. She can handle herself.”“The last time som
Dominic's POVI hadn't called anyone to get me out. It felt fishy, but with the chief's words, I believed something else was going on.I expected Dalton to attack soon. He was always too easy to read. I checked my watch. It was 11:47 pm.My mind drifted to Alessia, and I remembered she had been at the office.“Drive back to the company,” I said to Diego. He was the one driving. The second bodyguard sat in the passenger's seat.“On it,” he responded and drove us back to the company.I was out of the car the second it parked and walked into the company's front doors. The security was still active, though there was someone new there.I took the elevator, and when I got out, I walked to my office. The door was broken like it should be and papers were scattered on the floor. It was a mess.“Diego—” I called. “Call the repairman to have it fixed before tomorrow afternoon.”He stared at the wreckage. “The repair man?” He asked and then looked at me. “I don’t have…”I rolled my eyes. “You did
