Matteo's POV

I watched Dominic walk in. I always wondered how he always did things without showing his emotions. He knew he couldn't be killed, not until they got him to sign away his properties.

And he was a difficult one to control. I already made sure the wedding marriage certificate would be ready. Sophia had been fast to hire someone to do it. But I was lucky to get my hands on it through an old friend.

We couldn't get her to sign a prenup without her refusing; so Dominic had a bright idea to make the marriage binding documents have hidden little tests that had more of her disadvantages in them. She would sign that before the marriage certificate.

I exhaled and pressed the earpiece I wore. “Max, are you there?” I asked.

“Yes,” Max responded.

“Get Flynn. He's in the basement,” I ordered.

“On it,” Max replied, and I heard his hurried footsteps.

I took one more look at the estate, then turned to see Rico and five other bodyguards in three cars. They signaled to me to show they were

Matteo’s POVI got to the SUV, and opened the truck. It was a mess. I kept searching for the metal detector.“Please, be here. Let it be in this damn vehicle,” I murmured as I continued pushing the bags inside. Finally, I touched something. I found what I wanted. I grabbed a shovel and returned to meet them waiting.“About time you got back,” Max muttered.I threw the metal detector at him. He caught it. “You'll need that if you want to find them.”Max flicked it on, and began sweeping the weeds. It beeped faintly—then silence.Max frowned. “Nothing.”I shook my head. “Try west.”He moved, the detector skimming the ground. I kept scanning the darkness, and my heart was pounding crazily—And then, a beep sound started. Max moved forward and it grew faster. When he moved some feet away. It stopped. We exchanged glances and Max moved back to the spot. The metal started beeping and it was insistent. We converged. Diego aimed his flashlight; the dust motes danced in the beam.I started digg

Matteo’s POVI ducked before the object hit my head. It missed, and I turned swiftly to see an angry-looking Flynn staring at me.He had thrown a screwdriver at me. I found it surprising he didn't use it to stab anyone yet, but thought of throwing it before Diego locked his cell.“You missed,” I said calmly.“Yeah,” he said, visibly pissed. “I won't miss next time.”I smiled. “Sure, you won't.”I began walking and then halted. “Oh, and by the way. Dominic already ordered you three to be moved. Think of it as faith before you risk your chances of ever getting out.”Flynn would have ripped my flesh if he could. Too bad he couldn't.“Screw you. I thought we had a deal. I help you get what you want then you let me go,” he said.I furrowed my eyebrows. I only promised to make it easier for him if he cooperated. I never mentioned the word, “freedom.”“I'm sure I would have honoured that if I had made a mention of it. Didn't you go to school?” I asked.Flynn became more angry and rushed to a

Matteo’s POVI kept my eyes locked on Flynn's. He gulped as I warned him with my eyes not to waste my time.Flynn’s smile wilted. “After. I met Sophia first—I got hired through her family’s connections.”Diego scoffed. “How convenient.”I cut through the tension. “Enough of this. Let's hit the main spot. Name one place Sophia hates—and one she loves.”“She loves the roller coaster at Gardaland Resort,” Flynn said immediately. “She rides it every summer.”I frowned, filing that away. “And what does she hate? Be very specific.”“Other than her father or me?” He asked.“Yes,” I breathed.I wanted to smack myself for that question. It was obvious he was going to say Dominic.Flynn's answer caught me off guard. “Poveglia Island.”“What?!” I asked, not sure I heard him the first time.“Poveglia Island,” he repeated.“What does that even have to do with this? This is a total waste of time,” Diego complained.“Do you even know how terrible Poveglia Island is?” Flynn asked. He was talking to D

Dominic's POVMatteo helped me put on the tux and handed me a silver gun.“Just in case,” he said softly. “You can't trust the bitch and her family.”I smiled warmly and took the gun. I glanced over at my watch on my wrist. I still had three more hours and ten minutes.“Sophia's not going to release the location. You are aware of that right?” He asked.“I know. But I have my ways to get words out of her,” I answered.“That might take too long,” a voice came from a distance. I turned my gaze towards the door to see Diego and Max step onI returned my gaze to my bed and started filling my gun with the bullet.Diego whistled and nodded. “Wow. Nice room. Could make up for a palace.”I dropped the third bullet in and Max spoke.“Listen. I don't like you. I am only doing this because of Ella.”“Nice servitude. I thought the knight in shiny armour died with the sixteenth century,” I replied and put in the fourth bullet.“Chivalry is not dead. And I like her. You are a crazy man, but I can't

  • The Deadly Obsession   Chapter 95

Dominic’s POVTime had stopped, but the countdown hadn’t. I didn't have much time left.I needed help and looking at the group in front of me, I knew they wouldn't. Except Matteo. And I didn’t want them to.Memories of Alessia's trying to leave came to mind. I should have let her. I messed up. I had kept this a secret for six years and was ready to take it to my grave, but I knew it wouldn't.Why did she have to be the daughter of my enemy? My fingers tightened around the phone until my knuckles ached. I should never have let her live. But the rules were the rules. I got myself into this mess by frolicking with her. Alessia didn't deserve any of it.Still facing the group in front of me. I glanced at my phone then called her. I was sick of everything. She answered on the first ring.“Well,” she purred. “Took you long enough.”I didn’t respond. I was too pissed. Her giggle slithered into my ear. “Did you like the little preview? I had it filmed just for you.”“I’ll do it,” I said, flat

  • The Deadly Obsession   Chapter 94

Dominic's POV“Wait…no,” Diego said with that same tone, as if speaking the clause any louder would alter reality. But the silence that greeted my identity was the loudest sound I’d ever heard.“You killed her family?” Max repeated, his voice cracking. “You actually killed the Cottis?”I didn’t answer.“What the hell, Dominic?” Max pushed himself upright, still favoring his ribs. “Say something!”The look in his eyes was fury—but there was disbelief there, too, like he needed to hear me deny it so he could believe I wasn’t the monster he thought I was.I didn’t give him that comfort.“Say. Something,” he growled again, taking one limping step forward. My jaw clenched. “You already heard it.”Max’s mouth dropped open. He stared at me just as though he didn’t know who I was. “Jesus Christ,” he whispered. “She loved you. Alessia —and she allowed herself to fall for you. And you—”“Don’t act like you understand what the hell happened between us,” I snapped.“Oh, I don’t?” he said, his voi

  • The Deadly Obsession   Chapter 93

Dominic's POV:I did not take the time to make sure Diego was buckled in. I slammed in the gearbox and shot down the driveway like the brakes had escaped the car. The tires screeched as I took the first corner too quickly. Diego swore quietly and suddenly scrabbled for the handle above the suddenly swinging door, as though his life hung on its coordinates. She's gotta know. Any of them. I have to find them before it is too late. Where could have Sophia taken them? What did she do with them? Those thoughts occupied my mind and wouldn't leave no matter how much I tried.I forced myself to be in control and act right. My gold tightened on the wheel and I made a big swerve.“Oooh!” Max and Diego yelled.“Slow down, you asshole!” Diego yelled.“Dude! Are you trying to kill us before we get there?” he cried out, the seatbelt snapping tight across his chest.“I’m trying to get there before they disappear again,” I growled, my eyes straight out on the road.I did not take my foot of the pedal

  • The Deadly Obsession   Chapter 92

Dominic's POVMatteo walked into the living room. I had already bathed and rushed everything. I picked whatever I could find in my closet and settled for a casual jean, white fitted polo shirt and a black bomber jacket.“Any news?” I asked as I wore the jacket.“No yet. The men are searching. They can't find them only traces of tire prints,” he answered.“So, there was a car?” I asked. And Matteo nodded.“Max's,” Matteo responded.“That's it. I'm going to find them myself,” I retorted in anger yet in a calm voice. He blocked my path and tried to calm me. “I don't think that's the best plan.”“Not the best plan?” I almost yelled. “My girlfriend and kids have been kidnapped and going after them is not the best plan. What is the best plan?!”“Calm down,” Matteo pacified me. “For all we know. The men are tracking them.”“For how long?” I breathed. “It's been an hour and I haven't heard shit.”“We have to wait. Attacking anyone could be very dangerous,” Matteo lectured.“I'm not going afte
