*Five Years Later*
*Ben’s POV*
“That’s enough for today.” I glared as the rogue breathed his last and the others in the cells shrank away from me. “You.” I pointed at the one trying to hide in the back. “See you tomorrow.” I growled and made my way out of the cells.
“Good job, Alpha.” One of the guards said. “We got a lot more out of them today than we did yesterday.”
I nodded. “Yes, another slave trading rogue cell. Give the notes to Beta Violet, she will email the Council with the names of the packs who have been dealing with them.” I said as I wiped my hands on a nearby towel.
“Yes, Alpha.” He said. “The portable shower is ready for you as well. You know Ms. Amy will throw a fit if you get blood in the packho
Alpha Eric rubbed the aches out of his tired neck. He was getting too old for things like this. He glanced over at his beta, Matthew, who was busy looking through some files on his laptop as they rode in the backseat on the way to the annual Alpha meeting which was being held in the Ridgemount Pack. A 6 hour trip away from his pack and family, who all stayed behind in the Black Hill territory. His territory. His pack. For now. Hopefully his eldest son, Christopher, will finally decide its time to take up the mantel and let him retire. At age 48 he was ready to start living his best life. Retirement life. He sighed, maybe he should have groomed his second or third son for the Alpha title, at this rate he would be a great grandfather before his son took up the role.“Its your fault, you know.” Matthew said beside him not even looking up from his computer. “I told you once he found his mate you should have pressed further, but no, you had to make
I sigh I was run my fingers through my dark brown hair, my duffel bag nearly packed with the essentials I will need to last for 4 or 5 days. I really don’t want to go; I really don’t want to do much of anything anymore. At 21 years old I have been to too many of these dances only to leave alone. I can’t find her and its really starting to affect my daily life. Some days I just stay in bed all day not even leaving my room to train or eat. Someone knocks on my door and my sister calls to me. “Hey Ben? You decent?” A second later she pops her head in my room with two dresses in hand “I can’t decide which one to wear, the red one or the black?” She holds up each one and neither one has enough cloth to be considered a dress.“Neither” I say gruffly. “What about the light blue one with the sleeves? Its October and we are going further into the mountain range remember?”“
My father looks from me to my mom; the valet and other members from the SilverFang pack are attending to our belongings and car. “Why don’t we all go in together?” He finally asked, worry evident in his voice. He is right, I shouldn’t meet my mate as nervous as I am. I’m sure she is just as anxious to see me and at least one of us should be as sane as possible. Heck, she might realize I’m here and jump me right on the dance floor. I can feel my face start to heat up at that scenario before my mom pulls me from my thoughts. “Get those ideas out of your head Ben, you should at least know her name before you start trying for pups.”“Mom!” I started, a little too loudly, “what if she was close by!” I look around nervously. Good, no one is even paying attention over here.My dad laughs “come on kid, let’s go inside” he offers his arm to my mom an
Her gorgeous green eyes go wide, holy crap. Her cheeks flush only slightly, clearly she was not expecting that. But now she really might reject me. What the hell is wrong with my mouth. I look up at her amused face. My heart sinks as she starts to giggle.“Well, you don’t like to beat around the bush do you? Straight to business.” She smiled at me and returned to her chair. “But unless you want me to call you ‘uh, um MATE’” She enunciated each syllable just as I did. “You better tell me your real name.” She motioned for me to sit in the chair in front of the desk.“Uh, I’m sorry. My name is Benjamin Alex Shields, from the Black Hill pack.” I fidgeted again as I sat awkwardly in the chair, trying my best to look cool but probably failing miserably. “My father is Alpha Eric Shields.”“So your sister is Lily, right? I met her earlier t
Time stood still, no one said a word. My father’s eyes were wide as saucers and I could sense a strange emotion from him. Fear? No, that couldn’t be right. My mother though, the shock of what I just said started to sink in then a huge smile broke out and she grabbed me in a crushing hug. “Oh, son I am so happy for you!” She released me and looked me up and down and fixed my hair. I like it messy for a reason, I quickly spiked it up again in random directions.“Mom!” I protested. She was embarrassing me in front of Samantha! I glanced over at her, she was watching the three of us wide eyed, studying us. She started to walk around the desk towards the door.“Please feel free to use my office, my beta just alerted me to a problem I must see too.” Her voice was wavering, was she nervous around my parents? Why? They are just my parents. My mom pointed at her direction. &ld
I’m on cloud nine, I’m being led around by the most gorgeous woman I have ever met, I’m vaguely paying attention as we are walking around the pack house. As with most packs her office and living quarters take up the top floor, on the floor directly below her are the beta’s office, the elder’s office and their living spaces. The next floor down belongs to the gammas and the deltas. Then there are two floors of various rooms for guests and members of the pack who are designated a room in the pack house. We are currently on the ground floor which holds a huge living room, an entertainment room, and various conference rooms. Currently we are in the kitchen talking with some of the omegas who were busy putting away some of the remaining food from the dance into containers for storage.“Are you sure it's no bother?” Samantha asks the older plump woman as she is putting the containers in a large basket. “I hate to make mo
We ran quickly across the field, past the building and towards where the bar was set up. Out of the corner of my eye I could see three wolves sprinting out of the woods towards the shouting. I thought briefly of shifting myself but stopped as I knew if I did my clothes would be rags afterwards. Soon the scene came into focus, two large men were fighting. The strong smell of alcohol filled the air. To the side, the bartender stood shouting while a familiar young woman was crying behind him. I forced myself to run faster but no matter what I did I couldn’t catch up to Samantha. Her aura projecting out, strong, angry.“HEY FUCKWADS!!!” She screamed as she hurled the empty basket slapping one of the men in the back of the head. While he was momentarily distracted the other man took the opportunity to sucker punch him to the ground. He wasn’t paying attention though, as Sam closed the gap quickly and punched him square in his chest knocking hi
I felt myself floating, even though I was on the ground. It felt familiar here, yet strange. My body doesn’t feel right either, I look at my hands and are surprised how small they are. My feet are bare and are closer than I realized, did I get shorter? A lot shorter? The sound of kids laughing come from behind me wanting me to turn around when I realize I can’t move my body; its moving on its own and I’m just watching like it’s an interactive movie.Three children run past me laughing, one slaps me as they run past and all of them run away from me screaming and laughing.“TAG!!!”A laugh escapes from the lips I’m attached too and I can’t help but notice it’s the voice of a young girl. I’m running behind them now, my short legs not getting me anywhere fast. I’m focusing on one of the boys in particular, a slightly taller boy with black hair is trying to dod
