Aвтор: Dawn Moonlight
Wendy cowered, appearing pitiable and vulnerable.

The onlookers watched the commotion unfold.

It wasn't until Lucas crossed through the crowd, saw the red liquid on the ground, and coincidentally heard my words.

He looked fierce, marching towards me.

Wendy tugged at the hem of his pants, saying, "Lucas..."

Lucas shot her a cold glance but didn't respond.

"So, all these years, this is still how you see me," he said menacingly as he grabbed my wrist, looking as though he was about to interrogate me.

I gazed at him, not saying a word.

Everyone around was merely spectating, and no one wanted to be the center of attention.

"Speak, Rachel! Answer me!"

"Is everything I've worked for over these years worth nothing in your eyes?"

Under his intense gaze, I pulled my hand free.

In a hushed tone, I replied, "Don't let others see us quarreling."

Lucas's eyes grew colder by the moment.

He stared at me with an intensity as if trying to bore holes through me.

"So, in your eyes, I'm just a joke?

On the day I was discharged from the hospital, I went to visit Lucas' mother. The middle-aged woman, who had taken good care of herself over the years grew a large patch of white hair. She saw me and shook the handcuffs, making a clattering nose.I looked at her for a while and took out Lucas's death certificate from my bag."Mom... I mean, Auntie."Your son is dead."Her gaze became vacant. She stared intensely at the death certificate as if trying to bore a hole through it."It's impossible."Impossible! This can't be true!!""There's nothing that's impossible; perhaps this is just karma."She pushed herself away from the table, leaning forward, and desperately asked me, "Rachel! Rachel White! You lied to me, didn't you?"You clearly liked my Lucas! You liked him before!"Old habits die hard.In matters regarding relationships, she saw through things more clearly than both Lucas and me.So, she was fearless, knowing that I had affection for her son.She stared at me.Gradually, she c

Lucas's final visit to me was probably because he had no other options left.He looked at me with red eyes and asked, "It was you, right?"You promised..."I interrupted him. "Lucas, these are two separate matters."I've said it before, both murder and embezzling company funds are illegal.”"But you promised! She's my mom, your mother-in-law, and I'm the one you married! Not Arthur!"He grabbed my shoulders and shouted with anguish, "We're not divorced yet, and Billy is still my child."Rachel, can you bear to let Billy lose his father?"If you stop now, I'll make Wendy leave, and I'll listen to whatever you say in the future. I'll also take good care of Billy, I..."I impatiently cut him off.Tears of remorse welled up on his face, gradually blending with Arthur's visage and then drifting apart again.I realized that despite Lucas having a face so similar to his, he was nothing like him at all.I positioned myself on the stairs, leaned forward, and gripped his chin firmly."Lucas, to

A murder case that happened five years ago has taken an unexpected twist. It turns out the mistress was scheming to have the heir killed, so her own son could inherit everything. When this news broke, the entire city was in an uproar. On the day of the trial, I deliberately set aside time to attend.Lucas and Wendy were sitting to my left, with two empty seats in between. The man glared at me with hatred, while the woman absentmindedly adjusted her bangs. In my mind, I sneered. How could it take five years for anyone to realize that Lucas was a fool? When my mother-in-law was brought in, she spotted me with pure resentment in her eyes. However, when the witnesses began testifying, her anger was overshadowed by fear.I believe she must regret not killing one more person. It's what they call, "to root out completely."Motives, witnesses, and evidence were all crystal clear.Everything had already been set in stone.I stood up and left behind the farce that had unfolded behind me.

Unfortunately, his mother had committed more than just this one offense. Due to this incident, the mother and son's relationship had deepened. When the police came knocking, Lucas, his mother, and Wendy were in the middle of making cakes. All the ingredients were ready. A mixture of flour and butter was blended, and the creamy colors were enticing with their vivid hues.Lucas's face turned pale, and he immediately pulled out his phone to question me. However, the next words from the police left him stunned."Mrs Walsh, the police suspect you are connected to a murder case. Please come with us."These words came through the phone call. Then there was a busy signal.

Lucas came to see me later than I had expected. But it made sense; all his attention was on Wendy these days, spending time with that aunt-niece duo just as he used to do with me and Billy. To outsiders, they all appeared to be a loving family of three. This time, he probably came home because he had mistakenly entered the wrong door while drunk.I sat on the bed, silently gazing at the unexpected visitor not far away.Lucas leaned against the door frame, his dark eyes turning towards me.I switched on the light. His facial features, strikingly similar to Arthur's, became bright and distinct under the bright lamp, instantly pulling my thoughts back to the past.Long-forgotten scenes flashed through my mind.Starting with a complex and uncertain entanglement, progressing to a passionate romance, followed by a proposal, and ultimately experiencing the separation brought about by life and death. Those memories were more vivid than ever before."It's that look again!"Lucas' voice brought

I didn't think Lucas was a fool.Embezzling company funds, once discovered, leads to prison time for sure. The only person I could think of who would do such a foolish thing was my mother-in-law who raised her status by becoming a mistress.Maybe it was because the individual behind the accident asked for a substantial sum upon getting out of prison, and she was worried that Lucas might become suspicious. So, she chose to put up the "Heart of the Ocean" for auction, a valuable item she had kept hidden for five years. She probably thought that no one in this world remembered Arthur anymore.I placed the box containing the blue diamond in the safe, atop the blood-stained receipt. The blood from that year had turned black. The two words "Arthur Walsh" were covered in ink, as if they no longer existed.
