Chapter Five

After we put Haley to bed, I decided to just stay out the way and go and have a bath. Roman headed back downstairs without saying much more and left not long after. I headed into the bathroom to run the bath and while the water filled the tub, I went and grabbed a nice fluffy towel and some Pajamas.

I was starting to get a headache, so I lit some candles, turned the light off and undressed. I just wanted to relax and switch off.

As soon as I climbed into the bath and sunk under the water, It was like the whole day's stress just melted away. Leaning back and resting my head on the side, I sighed and closed my eyes, letting the hot water completely engulf me.

I left my phone in my bedroom, not wanting the distraction because I KNEW if I had it with me, I'd just be scrolling and texting and I just wanted an hour... half an hour at least, to myself.

I kept my eyes closed and just let my mind wander...

Hearing Haley cry, my eyes shot up and instantly the coldness of the water made me shiver. I must have fallen asleep, The water was like ice. I climbed out and wrapped a towel around myself not even drying myself and hurried into my room to check on the baby.

Looking into her cot, She was still asleep but crying.

Bless her.

I grabbed her bottle off the side and put it in the warmer for a few minutes before picking her up and going to sit on my bed with her. She kept her eyes closed as I fed her and when she had had enough, I placed her back in her cot, sleeping peacefully.

I couldn't help but stare down at her. She was still so.. New. The puffiness of her face and cheeks had started to settle and her features were coming in. I hoped she looked more like me than Roman. That would be one way of my parents finding out, wouldn't it?

''Alex, Why does your daughter look strangely like our neighbour?!''

Yeah, that wouldn't go down very well at all. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself and headed back to the bathroom to dry off and change.

Slipping under my covers, I stared up at the ceiling. The room was in darkness, except the corner where Haley's cot was. She had a small night light that lit the corner up with a nice warm, dim glow, but it didn't reach my bed.

I turned onto my side and closed my eyes. My first day home, My first day back in my own bed and it has already been super eventful. I heard a quick vibrate and opened my eyes to see my phone flashing, telling me I had a text message.

Who was texting me at this hour?

I considered just leaving it but curiosity got the better of me and I grabbed it, sitting up again.

The light from the screen made me quint and I blinked a few times, letting my eyes adjust.

When they did, I saw the text was from Roman.

What did he want?

I opened it up and read it, more confused than before. It said one simple word;

R: Hey :)

Oookkk... I sent a ''Hey'' back and waited to see what exciting thing he said next. As always, I didn't have to wait long for a reply.

R: Did Haley stay asleep?

Me: She woke up briefly before, but went back down after having something to eat. Nothing major.

R: Aww, Bless. Listen, I was wondering if you could come over tomorrow... With her?

I thought about it for a minute, 1.) Why did he want me to go over and 2.) Was it a good idea?

Me: Why, whats up?

R: Nothing, I just want to spend some more time with her.

Ok, that's cute, I couldn't be mad at that. My fingers hovered over the keypad while I debated what I was going to say next, but eventually decided to just invite him here instead;

Me: Well, mum and dad are working tomorrow, you could always come here after her nap? Say.. 11 am-ish?

R: Sounds good. Get some sleep, I'll see you tomorrow :)

I smiled and typed out a ''goodnight and see you tomorrow'' message back and put my phone back on the side. I snuggled back under the duvet and closed my eyes, letting sleep wash over me not long after...
