Chapter 2

Anna's heart skipped a beat as she heard her name being called from the stage. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Anna... Anna..." Monica's voice brought her back to reality. Without wasting a second, Anna dashed towards the stage, her heart pounding in her chest.

As she reached the stage, she stumbled and almost fell, but a hand reached out to steady her. She looked up and saw a handsome man bending over her, the stage lights illuminating him from behind like a divine being. Despite herself, Anna couldn't help but feel a flutter in her stomach as she gazed at him in amusement.

"Are you okay, Miss Clarke?" the man asked, concern etched on his face.

Anna grabbed his hand, allowing him to help her stand up. "Oh yes, I'm fine," she replied shyly, trying to compose herself.

As she looked at him, Anna felt a strange pull towards him. But she quickly shook off those feelings, reminding herself to stay focused and behave like a normal person. "No, Anna, don't be like other girls. You need to focus," she told herself, determined to stay grounded.

She tried her best to act normal and not reveal her true feelings, taking the award and retreating backstage.

As David was presenting the award to the nurse, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a fairy darting across the stage. In a flash, the fairy stumbled and fell to the ground. David quickly rushed over to help her, noticing the pleasant scent of wildflowers as he approached.

As he helped the fairy to her feet, David couldn't help but try to impress her with his charm. "Why doesn't this girl seem interested in me?" he thought to himself. "All the other girls I've given awards to have been practically falling at my feet!"

The ceremony was over, and Anna knew she had to hurry to catch the last bus of the day. As she gathered her belongings and rushed towards the bus stop, she realized with a sinking feeling that she was too late; the bus had already departed.

"Great, just great," she muttered to herself. "Now I'll have to take a taxi, but it's going to be nearly impossible to find one at this time. I'll have to take a shortcut to get to the taxi stand and hope for the best."

Anna trudged down the dimly lit alleyway, her exhaustion weighing heavily on her. Suddenly, a voice pierced the silence.

"Smith, it's hunting time. Give me my thing," said David, as he and Smith emerged from a nearby car.

Smith handed a sleek pistol to David, who cradled it like a treasured possession. This was his weapon of choice for close-range hunting.

"You don't need to come with me, Smith. Go and handle our last shipment," David ordered with a commanding tone.

"Okay, boss," Smith replied obediently.

As David made his way towards his destination, he followed the coordinates on his phone, drawing closer to his prey. Just then, he spotted the man he was after, who took off running upon noticing David's presence. Without hesitation, David gave chase.

The area was deserted and shrouded in darkness. David had come to this place to catch the man who had stolen sensitive information from his laptop and stored it on a pen drive. If the contents of that drive were exposed, David's reputation and very existence would be at stake. He needed that pen drive at any cost.

After a few moments, the thief stumbled and fell to the ground. David wasted no time in apprehending him.

"So, Parker, what did you think? That you could betray me?" David sneered, his grip tightening around the thief's collar. "I keep my eyes on those I trust the most. Now tell me, where is the pen drive?"

“I don't have the pen drive,” gasped the man, struggling to breathe.

David sneered. “Oh, really? You're not very convincing, Parker.” With a swift motion, he punched the man in the face, causing blood to gush from his nose.

Parker winced. “I swear, I don't have it,” he pleaded.

David's eyes blazed with fury. “You think you can lie to me? I'm the Devil. Tell me where it is.”

“I'm telling you the truth,” Parker protested, his voice shaking.

David raised his gun and shot Parker in the leg. “I don't have time for games. Give me the pen drive or you'll regret it.”

With a trembling hand, Parker handed over the pen drive. David snatched it from him and inspected it carefully.

“Good boy,” he sneered. “But you know what I do to traitors, Parker? I don't show mercy. And you betrayed me.”

Parker's face drained of color. “Please, no,” he whimpered.

David's expression darkened. “I'm sorry, Parker. It's time to pay for your sins.”

With a cold smile, he aimed his gun and fired a single shot, putting an end to Parker's life.

As Anna walked through the alley, her heart was pounding with fear. The desolate surroundings made her uneasy, and the sound she heard only added to her apprehension. As she approached another alley, she heard a sudden gunshot. The sound echoed through the alleyway, and Anna froze. She couldn't believe what she saw next.

A man had just shot another man in the head, and the victim lay motionless on the ground, blood pooling around him. Anna was splattered with blood, and she screamed in terror. The killer turned his head towards Anna, and she saw his face clearly in the glare of a nearby streetlight.

It was Mr. Carson, the well-known philanthropist and billionaire, who was revered by everyone in society for his charitable work and kindness. Anna was paralyzed with fear, unable to move or make a sound. She wanted to run, to scream for help, but her body wouldn't obey her.

As Mr. Carson walked towards her, his eyes cold and calculating, Anna knew she was in grave danger. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for his next move.

As Mr. Carson slowly approached Anna with his pistol in hand, she could feel her heart racing faster and faster. His face was covered in blood, making him look like the most terrifying man in the world. Anna knew she had to escape, so she turned and ran as fast as she could. She could hear Mr. Carson's footsteps behind her, getting closer and closer.

After what seemed like an eternity, Anna finally appeared in a different alley. She looked back, but there was no trace of Mr. Carson. She stopped to catch her breath, panting heavily.

Just as she was starting to feel relieved, a shadow suddenly appeared in front of her, and Anna's heart skipped a beat. It was him. It was Mr. Carson.

"Hello, Miss. Nurse. Where are you running?" he asked, his voice laced with a cruel smile.

"I-I'm going home," Anna replied, her voice trembling with fear.
