“Please don’t hurt me,” I whispered, my breath shaky, my eyes filled with tears and my cheek swollen due to the sudden sensation that burned it. The man has hit me when I punched him when he came up from behind.

I had no idea what was going on, I was tied to the chair, and the two men pacing across the room like they were waiting for someone.

“So,  we babysit.” One of them asked he paused for a moment to look at me, I had called him blondie in my head while the other one was bald.

“Yes, the boss is going to call and you are going to have to explain why she has a swollen cheek, you could not handle yourself for five fucking minutes, you have to come up from behind after I asked you not to fucking do that.” The bald man yelled, I didn’t dare stare directly at him.

“I will find something to fix it, in the meantime, get over yourself and make sure those men outside have no idea what’s happening,” Blondie stated and more tears streamed down my cheek.

The two men were dressed as electricians, with names attached to their uniforms, I could barely read them, given the fact I didn’t want any of them to know I was staring at them.

The time ticked and all I could hear was the annoying sound of the clock I got as I prayed that Candice would not come back here, I couldn’t handle the thought of anything happening to her.

  Knock knock.

The two men rushed into the room and they glanced at me.

“Who is it, are you expecting anyone.” The bald man asked, his eyes filled with anger, his tone filled with rage and my hands shook at the thought of Candice being the one behind the door.

“Say something.” The blondie yelled and I didn’t speak, I shook my head a few times, unable to speak when more tears streamed down my cheek

I watched as Blondie headed toward the door and suddenly, I could not explain how it happened, blondie was thrown to the wall and someone walked in, I watched as the demure of the room changed, my eyes peered up and they met his.

The stranger from the party, his radiant blue eyes were on mine, his black suit hugged his body softly when my eyes searched through his tattoos, he didn’t look happy.

“You stay right there or I  will kill her.” The bald man yelled, blondie on the other hand was still on the floor, my fear heightened when he pulled out a gun and he pointed it toward me.

I didn’t think the stranger would save me, we had one snack and one kiss, why was he there, is he the boss they had been waiting for, I sounded dumb even thinking about that, he wouldn’t have threatened his boss.

“Please no, I don’t want to die,” I whispered in a shaky voice, so low I doubted if anyone heard what I said, I didn’t want to be taken not like this.

I closed my eyes for a second and I mumbled a silent prayer when I felt the gun being further pressed to my temples, the man was yelling but the stranger didn’t stop, he didn’t care that my life was on the line.

The stakes were high but he didn’t care, his eyes were filled with blood and rage when he stopped in his tracks and he pulled his hand up in the air like he was surrendering.

That’s all it took him to pull out his gun and the splash of blood covered my face, a scream escaped my lips.

“No,” I yelled, my spit mixed with the blood of the man that lay on my floor and the stranger rushed to me. “You killed him, you took his life away.”

The stranger paused to look at me before he returned to take off the ropes.

“You are crying about a man that wanted to hurt you.” He asked, there was a moment of confusion that filled his tone when his eyes met mine. “People like him should be dead.”

“You don’t get to decide that, you don’t get to play God,” I whispered, I could barely look at the man lying beside me and all I cared about was washing my face.

The stranger stopped what he was doing and his eyes met mine again. He moved closer to me, his perfume scented of danger and power.

“I am God sweetheart, you just don’t know yet.” His voice was low and dangerous. What did he mean by that?

I pulled away from him and I helped myself with the rest of the ropes before I rushed into the kitchen and I washed my face, the events of moments ago still playing in my head.

By the time I got to the living room, I saw other people taking the body out, one of them was still alive.

“Who are you?.” I whispered, “How did you know what was happening, did you send the flowers; those men outside my apartment, are they working for you?.” I asked, I watched as the men who held the body stopped in those tracks, like it was a sin taking to the stranger the way I did.

“You ask a lot of questions Aurora.” He said,

The way he said my name was like it was a promise, one that I was never going to escape from.

He looked at me and the apartment and I watched as his jaw tensed.

“You are not safe here.” He said.

  “I know,” I whispered.

“You are coming with me.” He demanded, his eyes holding so many questions.

“I would have to be dead for that to happen, I don’t even know who you are, you could be the monster that has those men hurt me, you killed and you didn’t even care.”

“Aurora.” He said, his tone was firm and low. “You kissed me and now they think you are mine.”

My legs went weak “Who are you.”

“Your protector.” He said and I shook my head.

“You are a murderer,” I whispered when he stopped in his tracks, the man lying on the floor started to stir and my breath hitched.

“You have a choice sweetheart, stay here and die, or come live with me.”

“I have been speaking to you, and you seem deep in your thoughts.” Candice said, I looked away from the screen for a moment before I looked at her again. “Sorry about that, you know work.” I lied, I hated to lie to her, we have never lied to each other before, and it felt weird to do that. “Yeah right, I am still mad at you for leaving without me, the wedding is quite soon.” She said and I nodded. “In a week-actually.” She said, cutting me off, and I stared at her in my screen. “It’s this Saturday.” She said and my breath hitches, why are they moving it up, she still has a million thing to do. “No way, did you get pregnant or something.” I asked and when I see her smile; I knew she had, I felt the urge to scream out my lungs and when I did. I gave her a smile. “I know it’s sudden and if you didn’t leave, you would have found out the night I did find out.” She said, and I felt the urge to roll mud her at her, yet I didn’t. I have no idea how Dominic did it, but the

“Rules.” I asked when we settled inside the car, we were heading to the party and I had no idea why. If he wanted to protect me; why take me out of the house, why take me to a place filled with so many individuals. “Rules, if you listen to them, you stay alive, and I will reward you, if you don’t, you will die.” Dominic said, bluntly, he spoke about death like it was nothing. “I will listen.” I whispered, this may be my on my chance to get my phone. “Rule one, you are never to speak to anyone, to even the waiter, Rule two, you are mine, you don’t dance or smile at anyone, rule three, those people there, they are not good so you are never to go anywhere alone not even the bathroom.” “It’s a mafia party.” I said, and he didn’t speak, his silence has confirmed all my suspicions. “Why take me there, Dominic, if it’s not safe; why do I have to be there.” “It’s important.” Dominic said. “Can I have my phone?” I asked Dominic during breakfast, and he glanced up to look at me. “My friend will be worried sick, you told her I left for a work-trip and if I don’t contact her; she'll go to my workplace and ask, and she will get more worried.” I explained. “Fine.” He mumbled against his breath and my eyes widened, he didn’t tell me no, why didn’t he. “In return, you will accompany me to a party tonight.” He said, and I didn’t argue either. My mind was still on last night, the things I found, I have more than twenty days to figure out what’s going on, why he has those pictures and who are these people. After breakfast, Dominic has left; he was not himself today, the questions I had in mind were eating me up and I needed a single relief. “Can we talk?” I mumbled against my breath, walking into his room, it felt like walking into his personal hell, he was settled on the couch when he turned to look at me. “You decided.” He smirked, and I nodded, my feet felt wob

“That party, what was it all about? How do you know, Nicholas.” I asked. The only thing Nicholas would say was, he is using you, he wants something from you, he is a monster, before Dominic came, his mere presence from far was enough to make Nicholas leave instantly. “Let’s go home.” “Why am I really here, is this about me kissing you, I have a feeling there is so much more to it, so much you are not telling me about.” I breathed out. He turned to look at me, and he didn’t speak, if he wanted us to go back to the house, then we will, I didn’t speak to him as we headed back to the house, I didn’t enjoy the walk anymore, I wanted this to be over. “Are you going to tell me what’s happening?” I asked. “There are many bad people in this world, and some of them want to take everything from me.” He breathed out, his tone smoothing, and his eyes held emotions. What was he hiding? “If it’s about me, then I have to know Dominic.” “In twenty-seven d
