CALISTA'S P. O. V

“Tell me everything.”

I whispered, staring at the green tea that had gone cold. I knew there was more, more she was holding back.

Aunt Lena sighed, she took my hand in hers “Calista, it's been a long day for you. Get some rest, we have all the time to talk.”

I nodded absentmindedly, my mind still reeling; I flickered a glance at where our hands were connected, then back at the tea. “I want to hear it now.”

She heaved a resigned breath out. “If you insist, but first let me get you some hot tea, you'll need it.”

Aunt Lena stood up and took the porcelain cups in her hand, she walked into her kitchen with it.

I sat there, unmoving and sunken. My hollow eyes traced the pattern of the carpeted floor. I tried to move my limbs, but I couldn't feel my legs, my arms, or even my head. But inside me, I was screaming, pulling my hair out, and laughing like a deranged patient in an asylum.

I was never supposed to happen. I was the reason why my mother was tied to my heartless

ROMAN'S P.O.VI tightened my grip on the steering wheel, speeding off to the meth lab.My nose flared. I would have still been in Ohio if it weren't for fúcking Declan. Now I have to deal with him while Callie remains gone. Once I get my hand on the slimy bastard, I'll make him pay for every second I'm wasting not searching for my wife.I came to a halt when I reached the lab; it was located at the edge of the industrial district; from a distance, it looked like nothing more than a forgotten rusty warehouse, but it was more. The outside was kept this way on purpose; the inside, however, was a fortress.Lucas was outside, his arms folded, headphones in. The moment he saw me climb down my car, he yanked them away and jogged over.I had him come over here since I needed his skills for our situation.“Any luck yet?” Lucas asked, his usual cheerful voice flat. Just like Nonna, he suspected that I had done something to Calista to make her run away.I didn't dignify him with a response. Not

CALISTA'S P.O.VThe bathroom tiles were the color of washed-out plum, and I stared at them longer than I needed to, like I was planning to commit every detail, every faded color and crack to memory.I heard a sob somewhere, loud and sad. I didn't even know if it was mine or Aunt Lena's. Another followed almost immediately, shaking my shoulder with it—Yep, it was mine.I reached to touch my face with cold, numb fingers. So this was what an out of body experience felt like. I couldn't feel myself, I didn't know myself. The mirror above the sink was fogged with steam, I wiped it clean, but even when I did, my reflection still looked foreign.A brother.I had a brother.Had my whole life been a lie? Who was I?I let the scalding hot water run over my skin, bruising me red. My mind was frozen, my body moved on its own like a machine being controlled by someone else.Shampoo. Rinse. Towel. Shampoo. Towel. Shampoo. Towel. RinseI jerked back to my consciousness, the water had turned l

LILIAN'S P. O. VThe door clicked shut behind Roman, the sound echoing loudly until it faded slowly away.Alberto didn’t move at first when he shut the door. He turned the locks slowly, maybe just to be sure Mr. Cappellucci wouldn’t storm back in — not that he’d find anything worth barging in for. I could be standing here in nothing but my skin, and Alberto still wouldn’t touch me.But that wasn’t what mattered right now.Calista was gone. Disappeared, just like that.I wrapped my arms around myself and looked at Alberto with tears in my eyes.Alberto stood with his back against the door, his head tipped back slightly, his breathing uneven, like he was holding back a hundred unspoken words and he needed a moment to breathe. So did I.But it wasn’t because of my initial fear of Mr Cappellucci's threat, not even from the harsh warning he had almost given me, but It was the way Alberto had stepped in between us. Shielding me from the Boss, like I was more than an just ordinary blonde fol

ROMAN’S P.O.V.Chicago was the last place I wanted to be.“Calm down, Romano; we will find her...”A low, animalistic growl vibrated through my body and hushed Alberto shut. He was the only one around me, the only person bold enough to step into my space while I seethed and raged.“Riccardo.” I said to him. “I want him dead.”Alberto's eyes flared wide and alert as I paced up and down my study. My fingers twitched to murder someone, and who better than the man I assigned to watch my wife?“You don't mean that,” Alberto spoke cautiously. “You don't want Riccardo dead; you're just pissed.”I halted my steps, my head whipping over to where Alberto stood close to the door. “Pissed? Alberto did you just say I'm pissed?” A beat of sweat trickled down his temple to the side of his face, but Alberto held his ground. “We will find..”“Pissed,” I repeated, stalking towards my oak desk to pour myself some liquor.“Pissed is what I am when Declan walked into my bar. Pissed is when I have to spar

CALISTA'S P. O. VSomehow, we managed to lose Roman.I didn’t know if I should feel relieved or terrified.Because if there was one thing I’d already gathered in the few minutes with this stranger on a leather jacket and denim pants, it was that he too was just as dangerous, maybe not as nearly as Roman, but dangerous still. And now I couldn't help but wonder — who exactly was Aunt Lena? And what kind of people did she surround herself with?Did I make a mistake coming to them? No. Aunt Lena was family; she wouldn't do something that would hurt me, right? “We’re almost at my car,” The man muttered, his voice low and even and quiet. We turned into a dark alley. A shiver ran down my spine as the darkness swelled us. This was the kind of place no sane woman should follow a stranger into. Yet here I was in the early hours of the morning, limping silently as he led me to God knows where I dragged in a breath and asked the question that had been troubling my mind. “You said you’ve been w
