The Kumiho my father chose for me hated me. He hated that he was my pet. When I turned eighteen, I decided to give him his freedom. Chapter 1

It was my eighteenth birthday today. My friends had brought me so many gifts that they formed a small hill on the ground, but all I did was look at Taylor Jones with a forced smile. "Taylor, where's my birthday gift?"

His legs were crossed while his fox tail swayed nonchalantly behind him as everyone watched on. He scoffed slightly at my question and replied, "I don't have any money to buy one for you."

Taylor had embarrassed me in front of all my friends while Rachel Lenford looked at me gleefully, a Chanel necklace sparkling around her neck. "Taylor used up his money getting me a present not long ago, Elsie. Please don't be mad. He'll get you a present next time."

As my Kumiho, a half-fox, half-human entity, he had a monthly allowance of $10,000. My family, the Spencers, wanted him to have a comfortable life with us, but he had been spending my father's money without limitation, yet he could not even get me a necklace for my birthday.

My guests started looking at me condescendingly or with pity.

"It doesn't matter how rich their family is. She's given him his heart, but he doesn't appreciate it."

"That Kumiho must be living a sad life with her. I wouldn't like her either if I were pressured into doing things I didn't like."
