Chapter 1: The Scent of Betrayal

The mahogany table felt unnaturally cold under Luca’s palms, a stark contrast to the white-hot needle pricking at the base of his spine. He stood at the head of the boardroom, the glass-walled sanctum of Meier Banking Headquarters offering a panoramic view of Zurich’s skyline, but his vision was beginning to fray at the edges.

"The Fischer merger isn't just about consolidating assets," Luca said, his voice steady despite the roar of blood in his ears. He adjusted his cufflinks, a nervous habit he usually suppressed. "It’s about territorial dominance in the digital sector. If we don’t sign by EOD, the Council will look for a weaker link."

Across from him, three senior board members—all Alphas, all smelling of expensive tobacco and aggressive ambition—nodded. Luca’s own scent, a sharp, commanding blend of ozone and sandalwood, had always been his greatest tool. It commanded the room before he even spoke.

Then, the first wave hit.

It wasn't a flicker of heat; it was a physical blow. A surge of molten lead seemed to pour through his veins, starting from his neck and radiating downward. Luca gripped the edge of the table so hard the wood groaned. His knuckles turned white.

"Luca?" Stefan Baumann, his father’s protégé and his most vocal rival, leaned forward. His nostrils flared. "You’re sweating. Are you having a reaction to something?"

"I'm fine," Luca snapped, but the word came out strained.

The air in the room suddenly felt too thick to breathe. The scent of the other Alphas, which usually felt like a background hum, was suddenly deafening. It felt like a physical weight, a series of hammers hitting his chest. Stefan’s scent—sharp, bitter pine—felt like it was clawing at Luca’s throat.

And then, the scent of ozone and sandalwood simply... vanished.

Luca gasped, his lungs burning. In the void left by his Alpha pheromones, something else bloomed. It started as a faint, sickly sweet aroma, like white lilies crushed in wild honey. It was soft. It was inviting. It was terrifying.

"What is that?" one of the board members whispered, pushing his chair back. His eyes were wide, pupils dilated as he stared at Luca.

"Security," Stefan said, his voice dropping an octave, his own Alpha instincts visibly rising to the surface. "Something’s wrong with the air filtration."

"Excuse me," Luca managed to choke out. He didn’t wait for a response. He turned and bolted toward the private lounge connected to the boardroom, his legs feeling like they were made of water. He tripped over the threshold, slamming the heavy oak door behind him and fumbling with the lock.

Inside the lounge, he collapsed against the leather sofa. The heat was unbearable now. He ripped at his silk tie, his fingers shaking so violently he nearly tore the fabric. His skin felt like it was being flayed, every nerve ending screaming as his biology began a rapid, agonizing rewrite of itself.

This isn't possible, he thought, his mind racing through years of medical checks. I presented at eighteen. I’m an Alpha. I’m a Meier.

He buried his face in his hands, and the scent of honey and lilies was overwhelming. It was coming from him. It was coming from his pores, his breath, his very skin. The aggressive edge of his personality, the iron-willed focus that had made him the youngest CEO in the bank’s history, felt like it was being washed away by a tide of soft, vulnerable instinct.

His stomach cramped violently. He curled into a ball on the floor, gasping for air that felt too thin. He could hear voices through the door—muffled, urgent, and laced with the predatory edge of Alphas sensing a nearby Omega in distress.

"Luca! Open the door!" It was his father’s voice. The Patriarch.

Luca couldn't move. He was paralyzed by the sensation of his bones shifting, his internal chemistry flipping like a light switch. The dominant Alpha he had been five minutes ago was dead. In his place was something fragile, something designed to be claimed. He felt a primal, gut-wrenching shame that was almost as painful as the physical transformation.

The lock clicked.

The door didn't just open; it was swung wide with clinical precision. Luca looked up, his vision blurred by tears of pain. His father, Friedrich Meier, stood in the doorway. He didn't look worried. He didn't look like a parent whose son was undergoing a medical crisis. He looked like a man inspecting a damaged piece of equipment.

Behind him stood three men in white tactical gear—the family’s private medical team, carrying a pressurized containment gurney and a sedative kit.

"Father," Luca rasped, reaching out a hand. "Something’s... I don't know what..."

Friedrich stepped into the room, his own scent of cold iron and old parchment filling the space, suppressing Luca’s new, sweet pheromones with the sheer force of his presence. He looked down at Luca with a twist of his lip—a expression of pure, unadulterated disgust.

"Don't speak," Friedrich said, his voice as cold as a mountain grave. "You've caused enough of a scene. The board is already whispering. Stefan is already calling for a vote of no confidence."

"I’m sick," Luca whispered, his body shivering as the first stage of the shift peaked. "I need... a hospital..."

"You aren't sick, Luca. You’re a defect," his father replied. He signaled to the medical team. "The Meier bloodline doesn't produce Omegas. Or rather, it hasn't in three generations. We thought the recessive strain was gone. Clearly, we were wrong."

The medics moved in. Luca tried to scramble back, his heels scuffing against the polished floor, but his muscles refused to obey. One of the men pinned his shoulders down while another prepped a heavy-duty sedative. The needle glinted under the recessed lighting.

"What are you doing?" Luca cried out, his voice cracking, losing its baritone depth.

Friedrich walked over to the window, looking out at the empire he had built, refusing to even look at his son. "We are going to tell the board you’ve had a nervous breakdown. You’ll be moved to the estate’s medical wing immediately. No one outside this room can know what you’ve become."

The sedative hit Luca’s vein like ice water. His limbs grew heavy, the world beginning to tilt and fade into gray. He felt the medics lifting him onto the gurney, the straps tightening across his chest and legs, securing him like a prisoner.

Friedrich finally turned around, leaning over the gurney so his face was inches from Luca’s. His eyes were devoid of any warmth, reflecting only the cold calculations of a man who saw humans as assets and liabilities.

"You are no longer my son, Luca," the Patriarch whispered, the words cutting deeper than the transformation ever could. "You are no longer a Meier. You are just a high-value asset to be sold to the highest bidder before the news of your shame leaks out."
