Claire settled into her seat at the conference table and powered on her laptop.

She slid in the USB drive and began setting up the meeting minutes template.

The other executives had already taken their seats. Once she'd finished preparing, Claire sat back and waited for the CEO she'd never actually met in person.

Glancing around the table, she noted the tension on every face clearly, everyone was taking this meeting seriously and her own nerves tightened in response.

A few minutes later, the conference room door swung open.

Claire looked up instinctively, her eyes drawn to the entrance.

Every executive in the room did the same.

A collective breath seemed to catch in the room the man who walked in carried an authority so commanding it silenced the space instantly.

There was a current of anticipation running through the room; meeting the company's president in person was rare enough that most of them had never had the chance before.

Claire stared, momentarily frozen, as he crossed the threshold.

He wore a tailored black suit and tie, his hair swept back cleanly, revealing a strong hairline and a face with nothing to hide behind.

The style was sharp closely trimmed at the sides, longer on top polished and undeniably commanding.

The slicked-back style only sharpened his features further:

the high bridge of his nose, the depth of his gaze. It gave him an edge that was equal parts refined and dangerous.

Everything about him today read mature, composed, in complete control. The suit alone spoke of authority, tempered by a faint, unmistakable trace of restlessness underneath.

Sharp brows, sharp eyes, an unhurried stride, a calm that bordered on absolute.

Claire felt the air in the room shift, charged with something she couldn't quite name.

Lucas's gaze found hers immediately those same narrow, striking eyes from the night before, now carrying the faintest trace of amusement.

Their eyes locked for a beat too long. Heat rushed to her cheeks, her heart suddenly hammering.

Memory flooded back the two of them tangled together the night before and her skin went warm all over again.

Even now, in the cold light of a boardroom, he was still devastating to look at.

Of course he is, she thought, exhaling quietly.

Lucas held her gaze a moment longer, something knowing in the look, then walked calmly to the head of the table and took his seat.

He gave the room a small nod, his voice deep and even.

"Good morning, everyone. I'm Lucas Kane."

Claire studied his composed, businesslike expression and found it almost impossible to reconcile with the man who'd been anything but composed the night before.

She forced the memory down, straightened her posture, and focused on the meeting like everyone else, rising with the rest of the executives to greet him properly.

Lucas's gaze swept the room and landed, once again, on her.

She was dressed conservatively compared to the woman at the bar but the effect was, if anything, more potent. Restrained didn't mean invisible.

Claire felt the weight of his attention like heat on the back of her neck and kept her eyes fixed firmly on the table in front of her.

She didn't dare look up. She already knew what she'd find if she did that same faint, knowing smile, the one that made it clear exactly how much he already knew.

Unease coiled in her stomach as she pieced it together:

last night's recklessness, and now this Lucas Kane, standing at the head of her company's boardroom.

The gorgeous stranger I picked up at a bar, she realized, is my boss.

This surprise inspection suddenly didn't feel like a coincidence at all.

She'd thought slipping out quietly had closed the book on their one perfect, uncomplicated night.

Instead, less than twenty-four hours later, she was sitting across the table from the very man who'd upended her completely and there was no slipping away from this one.

Claire smiled, leaning in like she meant to close the last inch between them and then shoved him back at the very last second. She'd perfected the art of the tease. Keep a man just hungry enough, and he'd stay interested for the long haul.Lucas, unsurprisingly, wasn't in the mood to let her get away with it.If she's going to tease, he thought, she can finish what she started. He caught the back of her head with one hand and kissed her properly this time deep, deliberate, impossible to escape. His other arm locked around her waist, holding her in place as he took his time with her.The kiss burned through whatever resistance she'd been putting up, and Claire felt her composure slipping fast. She gave in, matching him, losing track of everything except the two of them. His hands wandered, bold and unhurried, and for several long minutes neither of them noticed or cared that they were still in the middle of a restaurant. They were far too absorbed in each other to notice the waiter who

The Koenigsegg rolled smoothly through traffic.Claire turned to look at him, a teasing smile on her lips. "President Kane really is something, having a suitor that devoted."She had no intention of competing with Vanessa Sinclair for anything Lucas was already exactly her type without the added drama. He was gorgeous, wealthy, and impossible to ignore. Frankly, what woman wouldn't be interested?Lucas kept one hand on the wheel, a faint, wicked smile tugging at his mouth."Fine by me."Claire pressed on, curiosity getting the better of her. "So she wasn't lying? You really weren't interested in women before?""Wasn't. Until you."His voice came out low and easy, and something about the simplicity of it landed harder than it should have.Claire felt a small, private thrill at that.Could it be, she thought, that I really was his first?"So before me there'd genuinely been no one?"She kept nudging, patient, curious. His hands stayed loose and elegant on the wheel, pale against the bla

Claire gave herself over to it completely, no longer holding anything back. This man was demanding, intense, and utterly unlike anyone she'd been with before and she was enjoying every second of it.If I'm going to be swept up in this, she thought, I might as well enjoy the ride. There was something satisfying, too, in knowing exactly how much he wanted her. They didn't surface until well past noon.Eventually he carried her to the shower, where round two got just as thoroughly out of hand as the first. They finally emerged clean, unhurried, thoroughly spent.Claire lay stretched across the bed, boneless with exhaustion, her stomach growling loud enough to be funny.Lucas, meanwhile, had already dressed a sharp suit and tie, looking freshly composed and unbothered, like the last few hours hadn't happened at all.Even in a five-thousand-dollar suit, Claire thought, watching him from the bed, he still looks like trouble wearing a nice jacket.Lucas draped a blanket over her and stepped

Highgrove Estate sat on the western edge of Meridian City, tucked against the cool base of the hills. It was its own private world complete with private roads, its own security, and a reputation as the most exclusive residential enclave in the city.Lucas Kane did not take Claire Bennett back to the villa they had used before. He drove her straight to Highgrove, the place he preferred above all others. The white Koenigsegg glided through the gates. Claire watched the grounds roll past the window: perfectly clipped lawns, a still blue artificial lake, and elegant pavilions half-hidden among the trees. Everything spoke of quiet, expensive power. The car stopped in front of a grand European-style villa. White stone walls were carved with delicate details; floor-to-ceiling windows flashed in the late light.Lucas stepped out, opened her door, and lifted her into his arms without a word. The scent of his cologne wrapped around her as he carried her inside. The living room was vast and spar

"Feel good, baby?"Morning light spilled through the curtains.Claire lay stretched across the sheets, a few faint marks scattered across her skin. She opened her eyes, found Julian watching her with that same wicked grin, and smiled back."Very.""You're something else, you know that."She leaned in and pressed a lazy kiss to his mouth. After they'd both cleaned up, Julian drove her to work in the Bugatti, the car drawing more than a few stares as it pulled up outside her building. He leaned over and kissed her cheek before she got out.She smiled, stepped out, and gave him a small wave through the open door."Bye.""I'll pick you up after work," he called after her, something warm in his voice. She hesitated only a beat before nodding, a smile tugging at her lips. She turned and disappeared into the building, her heels clicking against the pavement.Claire settled into her office chair, crossed her legs, and took a sip of water before turning on her computer, ready to get to work.T

"Not here."Claire was thoroughly captivated by this point, but she'd never been one for backseat encounters. She looped her arms around his neck and murmured the words against his ear, soft and certain.Julian pulled back, taking in her flushed face, and smiled, low and wicked. "Okay."He helped her straighten her dress, walked her to the passenger seat, and slid behind the wheel.Claire settled back, glancing around the interior with mild curiosity. The car smelled faintly of lavender, every surface finished in something clearly expensive. This wasn't just any luxury car.She caught sight of the emblem on the steering wheel and went momentarily still.A limited-edition Bugatti Veyron.
