Chapter 1

"Take off her black diamond ring."

Dominic stood at the far end of the long table. His voice was low, but every word cut sharp through the empty meeting room.

Eight core managers of the family sat along the table. Nobody spoke. Several Glocks lay right by their hands on the tablecloth.

I sat in the single seat reserved for the finance chief, staring at him.

Last night, they dragged him home covered in blood. He woke up, stared at me for a long time, and told the doctor with a cold face: "I don't know her."

I didn't sleep a wink all night. I dispatched three private patrol squads to lock down the blocks. I secretly brought in two neurosurgeons from the next state over.

Then came three hours ago. I pushed open the door to the third-floor suite with the signed patrol invoices in my hand.

Sienna sat right on his lap.

Dominic had both hands clamped hard around her waist, his rhythm rough and desperate.

Sienna threw her head back, gasping between breaths. "You swore this was mine to run this time. Are you keeping your word?"

Dominic let out a low laugh, biting down on her neck. "I faked the amnesia. I used the excuse of a scrambled brain so I wouldn't have to recognize anyone. Now I have every reason to take back her offshore keys and hand them to you for a few days. She spent the entire day panicking at the hospital. How would she ever have time to suspect a thing?"

That sight jammed into my throat like cold iron. I couldn't spit it out. I couldn't swallow it down.

Now, cigar smoke choked the air in the meeting room.

Dominic buttoned the bottom button of his jacket and looked down at me. "Don't you understand the rules, Camilla? The hit scrambled my head. I don't remember the old books, and I don't remember you. In critical times, the vault only goes to someone I trust. Sienna is my woman now."

Sienna sat in the chair to his right, spine straight, chin lifted high. Her eyes stayed locked on my ring.

The room full of armed killers stared at me. One man tapped his fingers lightly against the grip of his Glock. They waited for me to draw steel, or slam the table and scream like a dumped woman.

I stayed dead still. I didn't even shift in my chair.

Seeing my silence, Dominic scowled. He crossed the floor in quick strides and seized my left hand in an iron grip.

His strength was brutal. Before my hand could give way, he wrenched the black diamond ring straight off my ring finger.

The hard metal scraped away skin across my knuckle. Tiny beads of blood welled up instantly.

Dominic didn't give it a second look. He spun around and tossed the ring straight to Sienna.

Sienna caught it, shoved it onto her middle finger, and flashed Dominic a sweet smile.

"From now on, hand over control of all offshore proxies and get out of the inner circle." Dominic slapped a divestment contract onto the table. "Sign it, then get out."

I picked up the pen beside me, turned to the final page, and scribbled my signature.

They thought I just signed away the shared family accounts.

Nobody knew the truth. Midnight in three days was the hard deadline for sixty million in high-purity diamonds from the St. Petersburg godfather.

The core hardware terminal needed my live biometric voiceprint to clear.

Without me, that sixty million stays dirty. It turns into the death knell the Russians will use to smash the Corvin family to pieces.

I gathered my personal papers, zipped my purse, and walked out.

My heels clicked loud against the hallway marble. Sienna caught up fast, stepping sideways to block me right in front of the elevator doors.

"Wait." Sienna held out her open palm, face up. "Hand over your encrypted burner, plus direct contact info for the Swiss bank managers and the arms dealers. You were removed from the family. By the rules, you can't take family assets with you."

I stopped and looked at Dominic behind her. "This your call?"

Dominic flicked his lighter, blowing a puff of smoke. He looked away, refusing to meet my eyes. "Stop the nonsense. Do what she says."

He had this all calculated. He bet six years of my blood and sweat meant I was too invested to flip the table, no matter how sickened I felt.

Nobody spoke. After half a minute of silence, Dominic's voice drifted through the haze. "Don't make this scene uglier than it has to be."

A thin smirk touched my lips.

I pulled out my backup portable terminal, plugged it into my phone, and opened root access right in front of their eyes. Then I hit complete deactivation.

The command cleared. The screen flashed twice, then died into pitch-black.

Every private proxy server and darknet escrow protocol backed under my personal name collapsed across the board instantly.

Dominic's hand froze mid-air, cigarette smoke curling up.

He was an old hand at this game. He knew that screen in half a heartbeat. His face drained of color. He surged forward and grabbed my wrist in a vice grip. "What did you just delete?!"

Sienna was still in the dark. She yelled from the side, "Dominic, she's definitely—"

"Shut up!" Dominic roared, a thick vein pulsing at his temple.

He pulled out his phone and swiped across the glass.

My burner buzzed in my pocket. A deposit confirmation: sixty thousand dollars.

Dominic forced his voice down, trying to sound soft. "That's your walking-away money. Go take a few days off. You spilled blood for the family. Naturally, you get taken care of."

I stared at him, cold laughter in my chest. He just wanted a few days to fool around with Sienna. Then he would put on another act of recovering his memory and whistle for me like an obedient dog, coaxing me back to balance his books.

Right before his eyes, my finger tapped the screen.

Transfer rejected.

Then I swiped left, wiping the pinned emergency bypass code I saved for six long years.

I wiped the blood off my ring finger and stared straight into his eyes.

"Dominic, call out the family notary elder. We are dissolving this marriage."

"Shut up!"I jammed the barrel down hard against Sienna's temple. The pain choked the scream right out of her throat. Nothing came out except a pathetic whimper.Across the room, the three elders looked like corpses. Old Vito slammed his cane against the floor. Veins bulged across the back of his hands."Camilla, put the gun down!" Vito barked. "Enough blood on the floor tonight! Don't blow our last card right now!"Moretti stared at Sienna trapped under my boot against the broken glass. He ground his teeth and spilled the whole truth."We have no time left! Two days ago, this stupid bitch tried to cover the Antwerp position! She sold off all our reserve gold from the federal depository behind our backs! The shipment was hijacked the second it hit the street! Forget sixty million in cash. We don't even have six million!"Old Vito wiped cold sweat from his forehead. He forced a sickening smile."Camilla, you and Dominic were husband and wife. Leave us a way out. When you first walked th

Within two days, Russian payback slammed into New York like a blizzard. The city's underground shattered into pieces.Heavy assault rifles tore through three of our main docks in Brooklyn. The shipping containers burned down to black ash. Four distribution capos took a slit to the throat in their own garages. Their killers dumped the bodies and painted red Bratva marks across their chests in motor oil.Panic ripped through the Corvin family's seven loan-shark houses. Armed mobs smashed the counters to pull their cash out. Across the East Coast, our old allies tore up their contracts overnight. Every supply pipeline went dark.My encrypted phone took thirty-five calls from Dominic in forty-eight hours. He started with sweet talk. By midnight, he screamed death threats into the voicemail: "Camilla, if you let this family die, I will throw your ashes into the East River!"I pulled out the physical security key without blinking. I dropped it right into the heavy shredder. The gears crunche

I looked right past him. I gripped the knife box and walked around his side. "Tell your dogs to back off."The two Swiss security guards stepped up. They escorted me forward. Even here in New York, they had Zurich backing them. Dominic could not touch me unless he wanted a full-blown war with my clients. All he could do was watch me walk away.My heels clicked against the marble floor. I headed straight for the private exit."Camilla! Stop right there!"A shrill scream came from behind.Sienna did not care about her ruined makeup or her swollen face. She chased after me in quick, clumsy steps. She pointed at my back and yelled for the whole hallway to hear. "Who the hell do you think you are?! Without the Corvin name, you're nothing on the street! You're trash!""Shut your damn mouth!"Dominic shoved her hard.He sent his mistress sprawling against the wall. He did not even look at her. He sprinted to my car and threw his arms out to block the door. All that rage from the ballroom was

The elites and mob soldiers had not left yet. Every eye stayed on him. The new king of New York's underworld was getting torn to pieces in public.Dominic stayed quiet for a second. He looked ready to blow, but he held it in.He forced a tight smile. "How can it have nothing to do with you? You are my only woman. Fine, I know Sienna crossed the line. I'll make her apologize to you."He spun around fast. He crossed the floor to Sienna as she scrambled up, grabbed a handful of her hair, and dragged her right in front of me."Get on your knees," Dominic snarled. His voice stayed low, but every word cut like glass. "Beg Camilla for forgiveness."Sienna's face was swollen and red. She screamed and fought his grip. "Dominic! Are you crazy?! Why do I have to apologize to her?!""Because of those three offshore art trusts in your name. Because of that Upper East Side penthouse!" Dominic pulled harder. Her neck snapped back. Pure cruelty showed in his eyes. "Those trusts run on family shell cas

"Why the hell are you yelling at me?!"Sienna shot Dominic a wounded look. She spun around and shoved her finger in my face. Her voice tore through the hall. "Two years ago, during that three-hundred-million-dollar South American military deal! I tapped the backup port too. I skimmed eight hundred grand in fees, and nothing went wrong! Why is it my fault just because it's the Russians this time?!"The entire hall dropped dead silent.I stood in place. My fingers tightened on the knife box.Two years ago. The FBI raided our South American pipeline thirty minutes before closing. Interpol hit our Panama money houses. The family elders banged on the table, demanding blood. They got right in my face and screamed about a rat.Dominic made me give up thirty percent of my family shares in front of everyone. He threw me into a closed-door federal hearing. Forty-eight hours of non-stop interrogation.I did not sleep for two days and two nights. When my body gave out, I bit my tongue hard. Facing

Every word from that speaker slammed into the hall like a heavy hammer."Wait! Mister Viktor, that's impossible!" The blood vanished from Sienna's face at a speed visible to the naked eye. Seeing Dominic glare at her, she lunged at the phone, babbling in a panic. "Our channels never made a mistake! Is there some misunderstanding with customs?""No misunderstanding."The Russian on the other end was dead cold, stripped of all emotion. "Your so-called innovative route ran straight into the joint sting trap of EU financial inspections. All sixty million in raw diamonds have been seized. Interpol just hauled three of my captains away in cuffs.""Twenty-three hours and fifty-nine minutes. Have sixty million US dollars in untraceable cash ready on the table. Short a single cent, and I will personally come to New York to collect the corpses."The line cut clean. A loud dial tone buzzed in the dead room.Suffocating silence fell over the floor.Everyone knew the man in St. Petersburg was a man
