Two blinding red lines.

I sat in a narrow public restroom, staring at the cheap one-dollar pregnancy test in my hand.

Three weeks late. I was stuck.

On the other end of the phone, my best friend Stella's voice nearly pierced through my cracked phone screen. "Are you insane?! You don't even know where your next meal is coming from, and you're carrying Marcello's kid?!"

I gripped the plastic stick hard and stayed silent.

"He's a billionaire Boss! He controls the entire East Coast! He won't even give you money for a condom?!"

I hung up without a word.

It wasn't that he wouldn't. It was that I couldn't even scrape together enough loose change to walk into a pharmacy.

As the wife of the most powerful mafia Don in the New York underworld, my bank account balance was fixed at a grand total of one hundred and fifty dollars a month.

My stomach churned with sharp cramps and acid. I had to eat. The thing inside my stomach needed to survive.

Last month, Bianca, the family's chief bookkeeper, brought her men to my penthouse. Under the guise of "protecting the peace of the lady of the house," she fired every single servant.

She cut off our daily food deliveries and froze every single supplementary credit card in my name.

I was locked inside a glittering, gilded tomb.

Clutching the fifty bucks Stella just wired me, I sneaked out of the apartment like a common thief and squeezed into the seediest discount supermarket in the Bronx.

A heavy-set woman shoved me hard just to grab the very last bag of near-expiration sliced bread.

My back slammed against the metal shelf. I instinctively shielded my stomach. While she lunged for another loaf, I grabbed the stale bag and bolted.

Hiding in a windless alley, I ripped open the packaging and forced myself to swallow.

The dry bread crumbs scratched my throat, choking me until tears streamed down my face. But for the sake of the baby, I couldn't throw it up.

The moment I swallowed the last bite, I pulled out my phone and dialed Marcello's direct number.

I needed cash. Prenatal care, basic vitamins—anything. I had to swallow my pride and call him.

The phone rang five times before it was answered.

"Looking for the Boss?"

It was Bianca. She didn't even try to hide her contempt.

I straightened my back and went straight to the point. "Transfer me two thousand dollars. I'm pregnant and I need to go to a clinic."

A cold, mocking chuckle came through the earpiece.

"Pregnant? Sienna, you're making up pathetic lies just to squeeze money out of us?"

I raised my voice. "This is Marcello's child! Send a doctor to check me right now!"

"Save it," she cut me off coldly. "Last week you faked anemia, and I made an exception to spot you twenty bucks. What, getting greedy now?"

"Bianca, you have no right—"

"Vargas family money doesn't grow on trees, and it sure as hell isn't getting wasted on a parasite like you who does nothing but lie."

The line went dead.

The cold early winter wind in New York cut right through my thin jacket, freezing me to the bone.

Two years ago, Marcello pulled me out of the crosshairs of drug dealers and paid off the crushing debts my addict father left behind.

On our wedding night, he pulled me into his arms, his eyes burning with intensity as he whispered, "I'm going to make you the queen of all New York."

Wrapped in his arms during those tender, intimate nights, I truly believed he loved me.

But what about reality?

Six months ago, I went out to the streets to draw portraits for people, just wanting to make a few bucks for art supplies.

His right-hand man suddenly showed up, treating me with cold, rigid politeness as he ushered me into a Maybach.

"The Don says you shouldn't be seen out here."

A thug stepped behind my easel and kicked it down. Someone dropped a lit match, and my hard work turned to ash in seconds.

When I got home that night, he handed me the deed to a top-tier Manhattan art gallery.

"A Vargas woman doesn't hustle on the streets. Consider this compensation."

But the very next day, Bianca pulled me aside to tell me that for security reasons, any income from the gallery had to be formally approved by the Don before I could withdraw a cent.

To this day, I haven't seen a single penny.

Under the disguise of protection, he broke my wings and banned me from earning a living, yet he let his loyal subordinates push me so low I was worse off than a homeless person.

I looked down, pressing my palm against my flat stomach.

I refuse to let my child grow up in a dumpster.

I picked up my phone and called Stella back.

"Stella, did you say earlier that a casino is looking for a temporary dealer? One hundred bucks a night?"

"They are, but I'm telling you not to go. What if you run into Marcello—"

"I won't. Just put me down for it." I cut her off, marched over to the trash can, and threw the cheap pregnancy test away.

I looked down and pressed my palm against my flat stomach. After a hellish night, the dull cramping finally eased. Through the thin hospital gown, I could almost feel a faint, stubborn pulse fighting to survive."I'm keeping him," I said.Stella froze, her hand still gripping my sleeve. "For Marcello?""For myself." I looked at the black card on the table. "This baby almost died on the filthy casino floor, but he held on. He's mine. He has nothing to do with Marcello."Stella stared at me for a few seconds. She let out a long breath and slapped the mattress. "Fine! Keep him! But you max out that damn card! Buy the best vitamins, buy the biggest estates, and take back every dime that belongs to you! Don't save a single cent for that blind idiot!"...Over the next week, the hospital corridor stayed completely clear.Marcello never left the room. He canceled every sit-down on the East Coast, took off his sidearm, and wore only a plain long-sleeve shirt. When the nurses changed my IV, he

"You fucking bitch!"Bianca lost her mind completely. She scrambled up from the floor and lunged, clawing straight for my face. Before she even touched the sheets, Marcello kicked her hard in the ribs.Bone gave way under his boot.Bianca crashed into a metal cart, sending gauze and cotton swabs flying everywhere. She curled into the corner, clutching her broken side. Cold sweat dripped down her face, and she spat through clenched teeth: "Sienna... you gutter trash. Even if you pop out that bastard, it won't live long!""A bastard?"I leaned against the headboard, watching her cold and still. "Worry about your own grave first."The door swung open. Two nurses froze at the door with trays of medicine. They saw the blood on the floor, terrified: "Boss... we have the Donna's medication. For the pregnancy and the bleeding..."In the corner, Bianca's face turned ash-white.She stared at the pill bottles on the tray, her lips trembling as her voice cracked: "Medication... you're really pregn

Marcello took the folder, skimmed through the pages, and frowned hard.He slammed the file onto the table. The papers slid across the surface, showing Long Island customs seizure forms and photos of container crates packed with solid gold bars. All the color drained from Bianca's face. She took two steps back, her words coming in a frantic rush. "Boss, this is a setup! Someone is framing me! I don't know anything about gold!""You don't?"I let out a cold laugh. I swiped open my spare phone and held the screen right in front of her eyes. The video on loop showed yesterday morning's penthouse security footage. Bianca stood in the hallway in a designer coat, directing four thugs as they carried my oil paintings, antique vases, and custom rugs into the freight elevator. At the very end, she snapped my easel in half with her own hands."What about this?" I stared at her. "You cleaned out my home. You didn't even leave me a bed. Then you ran to Marcello and told him I sold it all for cash.

The sharp click of high heels echoed down the hallway. Fast and hurried. The door swung open, and Bianca walked in. Her makeup was flawless. Not a single crack in her composure. Her gaze drifted over the IV needle in my hand, then settled on the man by the bed."Boss, you called me in a hurry. Is something wrong with the books?"Marcello didn't say a word. He didn't even look up at her. He just grabbed the encrypted phone showing the multimillion-dollar trust ledger and hurled it straight at her chest. The phone slammed into her shoulder and clattered onto the tile floor, its screen glowing cold and bright."Take a good look at every single line." Marcello's voice was dangerously low, thick with barely restrained rage. "Two years. Twelve million dollars. Why did Sienna only get a hundred and fifty bucks?"Bianca stumbled back half a step, but she didn't panic.I looked at her face. She had treated me with this exact same cold, corporate mask for years. She bent down, picked up the phon

"A hundred and fifty dollars?"Shock flashed across Marcello's face.He stepped forward and grabbed my hands, his voice sharp and tense. "What kind of bullshit is that? Every single wire to your account has a paper trail. The pocket change alone is more than that!"Enzo stood ramrod straight. "I swear on my life! The Boss has never touched another woman. Only you!"I opened my mouth to sneer, but a sudden, violent cramp ripped through my lower belly.Cold sweat broke out on my forehead. My legs gave out, and I dropped toward the floor."Sienna!"Marcello lunged. He caught me by the back and knees, scooping me up against his chest."Get the car! Right now!"He roared at the men outside and carried me down the corridor in long, hard strides. The freezing winter air hit us in the back alley. The next night at eight, the Manhattan underground casino.I slipped into the tight black uniform. The low neckline and ultra-short hemline made my skin crawl. The pit boss gave me a once-over. "With a face like that, you could easily find some guy to take care of you. Why bust your ass working a shithole job like this?"I ignored him, grabbed the heavy drink cart, and took a deep breath. For twenty-five hundred bucks. So that I and my unborn baby could stop taking orders from anyone. The casino floor was loud and packed with easy money. On my first night, I ran myself ragged.Sweat soaked through the uniform, and a dull cramp gnawed at my stomach. But I didn't dare stop. Every extra drink I served meant a few more dollars in tips.Near midnight, the manager handed me a bottle of top-shelf vodka."Take this to the biggest VIP suite at the end of the hall. Keep your eyes sharp. The people in there are dangerous."I pushed the cart toward the heavy carved wooden double doors. Before I ev
