Chapter 7

Author: Rainy Bell
Enzo's expression turned cold. "That's impossible."

Isabella replied in a voice utterly devoid of emotion, "Enzo, don't forget that the baby Sofia killed was also yours.

"Now, you can choose to either let the baby she's carrying pay for my baby's life and buy you both peace for the rest of your days, or you can keep dragging this out with me in an endless, deathless feud."

Enzo stared at her, his gaze growing darker by the second.

The hatred in Isabella's eyes was too deep. That kind of madness, suppressed beneath such calm, was far more unsettling than any tears or hysterics.

Enzo knew perfectly well she wasn't speaking out of anger. After all, Isabella was never the kind of woman who just stood quietly in his shadow. Behind her stood the Rossi family and Luca, who had always been secretly working against him.

He simply couldn't afford to gamble on this.

After a long moment, he clenched his fists. Then, he turned and walked out of the hospital without a word.

The moment the door slammed shut behind him, the entire floor seemed to shudder with the force of it.

Isabella slowly opened her eyes and looked again toward the small, shadowy figure by the window.

In her previous life, it was Enzo who had imprisoned her in the underground cellar and caused her to lose the baby.

In this life, she would make him take the baby from Sofia's womb with his own hands.

That was only fair.

An hour later, Sofia's piercing, distorted scream suddenly rang out from the corridor.

Isabella braced herself against the edge of the bed and sat up. Forcing herself through the agonizing pain that wracked her entire body, she made her way slowly to the door.

Outside the door, Sofia was being pinned down by two Soldati. She struggled frantically. Her hair scattered wildly across her face, making her look utterly deranged.

"No! Enzo, have you lost your mind? That's our baby! Please don't hurt him! Don't take him away! Enzo… Enzo!"

She wept until her voice broke, the sound filled with nothing but pure despair.

Doctors and nurses rushed over. Someone held her arm down while someone else injected a sedative into her vein.

Sofia's legs gave out, and she crumpled straight to the floor.

Enzo stepped forward and caught her, and even his eyes had turned red.

He held her and said in a trembling voice, "Sofia, we'll have other kids in the future."

Sofia suddenly bit down hard on his arm. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she was crying so hard her face had twisted into something ugly.

"Enzo, I hate you! I hate you!"

She was quickly wheeled into the operating room.

The red light came on.

The corridor fell silent all at once. Only Enzo remained standing outside, his back as rigid and frozen as a block of stone.

A long time later, he finally turned his head slowly and looked at Isabella standing in the doorway. That look in his eyes already bordered on hatred.

"Are you satisfied now?"

Isabella only felt how absurdly laughable it all was. They were the ones who had destroyed everything of hers first, and yet she was being painted as the most vicious one of all.

Her face was deathly pale. The pain from her ribs and the wound on her head throbbed in tandem. Even just standing there took everything she had.

Still, she didn't retreat a single step.

"Who knows, maybe you two are just putting on another performance for me."

Enzo's pupils constricted sharply. "I have never lied to you."

Isabella looked at him with a faint smirk. "But you had an affair."

No one knew a person's weakest points better than the one who once loved them most.

Neither of them spoke another word.

The light in the operating room went out.

When Sofia was wheeled out, she looked as if she had been hollowed out. Her face was frighteningly pale, and her eyes were so swollen she could barely open them.

Enzo immediately stepped forward and gathered her into his arms. But the moment Sofia felt his touch, she mustered every last ounce of strength and slapped him hard across the face.

The crack was so sharp it echoed through the entire corridor.

Enzo's head was knocked to the side, yet he didn't get angry. Instead, he just held her tighter and carried her toward another VIP room, murmuring apologies the whole way.

As she leaned in his arms and passed by Isabella, Sofia suddenly turned her head. The look she shot her was pure venom.

Isabella watched her quietly, then turned her gaze once more toward the small, shadowy figure by the window and said softly, "Mommy has avenged you."

The morning sunlight fell upon the white stone path outside the estate, and the shadows of the olive trees stretched long and thin.Isabella walked through the open-air corridor, holding the newly signed project documents. The new port, jointly developed by the Rossi and Morelli families, was officially in operation. On top of that, the shipping routes that the Caro family had once controlled were being reshuffled and redistributed. The legitimate holdings the Rossi family had pried loose from the Caro family were finally disentangled from the mess of old books and folded back into the shipping, pharmaceutical, and cold chain operations.Isabella spent that year in a blur of work. But it was also the year she finally scraped the blood and debts of the past clean from her life. When she reached the garden, Elvira was there with several kids, feeding the pigeons. They were young ones from the family's branch lines, all of them quite small and rowdy. The moment they spotted Isabella

Sofia's end came swiftly. She had too many charges piled up against her, and the evidence was overwhelming.Assault at the hospital, attempted murder on the street, commercial espionage, collusion with external armed entities, involvement in the hijacking of an armored transport vehicle—any one of those charges was enough to keep her behind bars for a very long time. And this time, there was no one left to cover for her.The day of the trial, Millbrook was drenched in heavy rain.Isabella didn't enter the courthouse. Instead, she only watched the live news coverage from inside the car.On the screen, Sofia was led through a side door in a prison uniform. Her face was ashen, but her eyes remained vicious.Reporters shouted after her, asking if she had anything to say about the charges. She suddenly whipped her head toward the camera and shrieked hysterically, "It was all Enzo's fault! If he hadn't pursued me in the first place, I never would have ended up here! And Isabella—she s

After Enzo moved back to the old estate, the whole place fell eerily silent, as if it had been hollowed out. There were no Soldati coming and going, no conference room lit all night, and no hysterical cries from Sofia. There was only him alone, and a house full of old memories. The night Isabella arranged to meet him, he sat alone in the living room, waiting for a very long time.On the table sat an unopened bottle of Cantele red wine, the one Isabella had said many years ago was the most fitting for their wedding anniversary. But in the seven years that followed, she had never once gotten to open it.When the doorbell rang, Enzo rose almost instantly. However, when the door opened, Isabella didn't step inside. She stood outside in a long trench coat, the night and drifting rain behind her.Luca hadn't come with her. It was just her alone. That stung even more. She didn't need backup to face him now, because she simply wasn't afraid of him anymore."Let's talk inside," Enzo

Three days later, the feds still hadn't made a move. The first to act was the group of old men in Millbrook's underworld who cared about appearances above all else. They convened a small ad hoc meeting. On the surface, they were asking about the Springstead warehouse shootout, but everyone knew it was a warning shot aimed at Enzo.A Don who allowed his mistress to get her hands on the ledgers and let outsiders trace his operations right to the family's bedrock was already a joke in himself, let alone that the clean industries originally injected by the Rossi family had been jointly seized and taken back by Isabella and Luca.Inside the conference room, several old Dons took turns smoking, none of them willing to speak first. It wasn't until the very end that the eldest among them, Alessandro Avallone, finally spoke up slowly."Enzo, you're drowning in trouble. You can't control your women or keep your accounts in order. If this goes on, people will assume our entire circle is as

The night Sofia disappeared, the surveillance system at the Indie Island villa went dark for exactly seven minutes.Seven minutes later, the back door of the courtyard was open. Of the two Soldati assigned to guard her, one had been knocked unconscious, and the other had been taken down with a stun gun.By the time the word reached Enzo, Sofia was already gone.He stood in his study, staring at the smashed surveillance console on the floor. His expression was as dark and ominous as the sea before a storm."Who was on duty?" he asked. The moment his butler, Lorenzo Rinaldi, reported the names, Enzo hurled the wine glass in his hand. It flew past Lorenzo's temple and shattered against the wall."Lock those two worthless pieces of trash in the basement. They don't come out until Sofia is found."No one dared make a sound.Just then, Daniele strode in quickly and placed the latest intel in front of Enzo."Don Caro, there's trouble at Springstead Pier Six. Someone got there first a

When Isabella returned to Millbrook, she didn't stay at the old seaside villa, nor did she go anywhere the Caro family could easily reach. Instead, she went straight to the penthouse apartment her family had kept in Casterview. The entire floor had been refitted with new security. The elevator required dual authentication, and there was a 24-hour rotation of Soldati stationed downstairs. When Luca handed her the final security roster, he asked casually, "Are you scared?"Isabella stood by the window, looking down at the nightscape of endless traffic below, and replied evenly, "Yup. But this time, even if I'm scared, I'm still coming back."What she feared had never been Enzo, but repeating her previous life. She knew full well the danger was there, yet she still gave in because she couldn't bear to let go. In the end, she pulled herself and her family down into the abyss with her.The next day, the joint board meeting convened as scheduled. The conference room was packed. There
