Marco's staff graciously opened the door for me. Stepping inside, I stole a glance at Marco through the rearview mirror as my car pulled away. There he stood, outside the house, attentively observing my departure. Overwhelmed by emotions, tears streamed down my face, a testament to the weight I carried within. Sensing my distress, my driver offered me a tissue, which I gratefully accepted. Lost in my thoughts, I hadn't even noticed when we had arrived at my father's house.

Rushing out of the car, I failed to bid farewell to my chauffeur. Anxious to find solace, I briskly entered the house.

Violet's initial smile melted away as soon as she laid eyes on my expression. "Sis, what happened?" she inquired, concern lacing her voice.

I held her tightly, tears streaming down my face, unable to contain the rush of emotions. Violet soothed me, her touch offering solace and comfort. Her concerned voice echoed in my ears, entwined with my own sobs.

Seeking refuge, we sought shelter inside the hou

As I walked back home feeling down, I made my way straight to the room Marco and I shared. The weight of disappointment was heavy on me, and I just needed to be somewhere familiar. I stepped into the bathroom, hoping to wash away the emotional mess of the day. The mention of spotting by Aunt Mildred had sparked a tiny hope in me, so I decided to take a pregnancy test. But, when I saw the result, it crushed my hopes—no baby, I’m not pregnant yet.Even though I knew the truth, I couldn’t shake the sting of disappointment. The well-meaning words from everyone, telling me there’s still a chance, didn’t help much. They saw how upset I was earlier and were trying to comfort me. But all I could do was sigh and sink into the bed, feeling unmotivated and drained.I sat there, lost in my own thoughts, when I heard

I glanced around and saw the staff were nowhere near us—no one would notice what my foot was up to under the table. Dessert had just arrived, and I’d specifically asked for ice cream because that’s exactly what I wanted.A grin spread across my face when I realized Marco had shifted in his seat to give my foot more room between his thighs. I felt him respond to my little game, and it was all because of me.“It’s your fault,” he mouthed when he caught me watching him. I just smiled back. Scooping up a bit of melting ice cream, I let it drip slowly off my spoon, making sure Marco got the full show.I sensually licked the ice cream from the spoon, eyes locked on his. I noticed his adam’s apple bobbing—he was definitely feeling it.

I couldn’t help but grin when I looked at Marco. It wasn’t just the bracelet he’d given me that had me so happy, but the meaning behind it. Every gift had a deeper significance, showing how sentimental he really was—a quality I absolutely adored about him. With a playful smirk, he motioned for me to follow him, and we walked through the house with my laughter filling the space. As soon as I saw the familiar hallway that led to my room, I couldn’t help but laugh even more.Marco swung the door open, and my smile grew wider with anticipation. I plopped down on the bed while he knelt beside me, giving me that adorable look that made my heart melt.I bit my lip, feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity. There was something unspoken between us, and

I left the office earlier than usual since there wasn’t much to do. With a light workload, I decided to head home. Then I remembered Violet. She’d asked me to come over, even though she’d been back home for a while now. She had security guards keeping an eye on her, but I wasn’t sure if they were really needed anymore, now that Ronan was out of the picture.“Let’s go to Papa’s house,” I told Renzo as we pulled out of the parking lot.Honestly, I hadn’t visited my father in ages—not even when I thought Violet was dead. I knew he’d probably blame me for everything that had happened, and honestly, I thought he might even wish I was the one who had died instead.

At noon, I tried calling Marco, hoping he might have some free time. After a few tries, he finally picked up."Maddie," he said, greeting me."Hey Marco, do you know when you'll be back home?" I asked, eager to find out. I wanted to go to Aunt Aurora's wake at the funeral chapel. Since Carson was still a family friend, I felt it was important to show my support and make sure he was doing okay.I didn’t want to go there by myself, especially knowing how Marco can be. If he wasn’t too busy, I was hoping he’d come with me."Sometime around 6 pm, why?" Marco asked."I saw in the paper this morning that Carson’s mom passed away," I said. "I thought it would be nice to go. I just wanted to see if you're free tonight or if you’ve got other plans. I was thinking it might be nice if we go there together."There was a long pause, and I felt a little anxious, wondering if Marco was going to say no. He wasn’t exactly a fan of Carson. Just hearing his name seemed to set Marco off, and I worried th

I stood by the door, watching Marco disappear into the distance. Minutes passed, and even though I knew they could handle themselves, I couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling. Ronan was finally out of the picture, but the anxiety still lingered.I kept wondering—would things finally calm down now that Ronan was gone? Would we finally get the peace we’d been hoping for? But deep down, I knew it wasn’t that simple. Marco still had plenty of enemies. Ronan and the Lombardi were just the tip of the iceberg. There were more threats out there, waiting for the right moment to strike.I stayed frozen by the door, lost in thought. Violet stood beside me, just as weighed down by everything on our minds. After saying goodbye to my sister, it was time to leave. The day had slipped away, and the sky was already starting to darken. Time to go home.We got into the car—just me, Renzo, and our driver, Wilfred. The rest of our security team followed in another car.I turned to Renzo, needing to ask someth

I gave Violet a look. Really? Was now seriously the time for jokes?Renzo cleared his throat, probably trying to move past her comment. “We jumped into the river on purpose,” he said. “We knew the current would carry us. I can swim, so it wasn’t a big risk. Lucille and her crew just assumed we drowned. They never checked. That was part of the plan—to throw them off and keep them guessing. They weren’t even sure if we’d been taken out by the Morettis. Gabriele was waiting for us downstream. That’s how we made our final escape.”I glanced over at Caleb, expecting he’d want to chime in now that everyone else had spoken.“I didn’t do much,” he said with a grin. “Mostly just cursed a lot, Ma’am.”

Gabriele let out a quiet laugh at Marco’s compliment. “Wow, high praise coming from the great Marcantonio Moretti,” he said with a smirk. “But let’s not forget—it was my sister’s research that made this all possible. Her magical science stuff is what got us here. Honestly, Marco, we should turn this into a business. People would be lining up for it.”As we walked down the hallway, we finally stopped in front of a large, impressive-looking door. Gabriele opened it and gestured for Marco to go in first, followed by his guys. I hesitated a little, staying at the back, taking it all in with a mix of nerves and curiosity.“Marco, where are we?” I asked quietly, reaching for his hand without even thinking. We walked in a

“Mason,” I muttered under my breath, barely loud enough to hear myself. The name triggered a flood of memories—he was Violet’s new driver, the one involved in my kidnapping. Ronan had used him as a pawn. But now? Everything was flipping upside down.“You!” Lucille snapped, her voice sharp with rage. “Aren’t you one of Ronan’s goons?”Mason gave a tired but sly smile. “Yeah, I was. Ronan tested my loyalty by having me help capture Ma’am Maddie. That’s when Sir Marco stepped in.”We all froze. Marco? What was going on?Mason kept going, his tone more serious now. “Sir Marco suspected there was a traitor in your circle. He needed proof. So he sent me undercover into Violet’s house to keep an eye on things. But you, Lucille… You never let me get close enough. You always met with Violet in private, and I couldn’t figure out where your loyalty really stood.”The room went quiet, the air thick with tension. It was like the curtain had just been pulled back on a much bigger game than any of u
