Chapter 1

The Lucchese family's banquet hall was always blazing with light.

I stood in the center of the room, forced to hold a glass of dark red, viscous liquid. It was 'The Vow of Silence,' the poison the Lucchese family used for executions.

The ones ordering me to drink it were Dante and Enzo Lucchese, the twin brothers I once thought would protect me forever.

"Drink it, Chiara Colombo." Dante Lucchese's voice was cold, his eyes fixed on me. "Father wants to see whether you've inherited your parents' genes for betrayal."

I looked at the instigator, Martina Browne. She was clinging to Enzo's arm right now, her face showing just the right amount of concern, but her gaze was smug.

"I know the Lucchese family is partnering with Martina's father, so I would never hurt her. She fell on her own. I didn't push her," I said, my voice trembling.

Enzo finally spoke, avoiding my gaze while his fingers gently patted the back of Martina's hand. "Martina said you pushed her. She said you cornered her on the terrace to question her relationship with Dante, lost control, and got physical. Father suspects you're trying to sabotage the family's business deal."

Martina was lying.

Half an hour earlier, on the terrace, Martina had fallen, but only because she tried to slap me and I stepped aside, letting her lose her balance and hit the ground. Yet, when she ran back to the hall crying, she twisted the truth. She told everyone that I was jealous of her and pushed her to the ground.

Dante and Enzo did not even listen to my explanation before delivering their verdict, and it was all because the blood of a traitor flowed through my veins.

Dante took another glass from a server, filled with the same dark red liquid. "This is a test. Enzo and I will drink the diluted version of 'The Vow of Silence.' If our loyalty is true, the wine is harmless."

He tilted his head back and drained it, and Enzo followed suit.

Neither of them flinched.

"See?" Martina purred, her voice sweet as poison. "As long as you have nothing to hide, there's nothing to fear, Chiara."

I knew they were cheating. Their glasses did not contain 'The Vow of Silence' at all, just regular red wine. I had seen them use this method to execute others countless times.

"I won't drink it. If you want to kill me, just do it. Don't use this hypocritical ritual." I set the glass down on the table.

Dante's expression darkened.

Suddenly, two guards stepped forward and grabbed my arms, forcing me to my knees.

"Dante, maybe..." Enzo's voice held a trace of hesitation.

"Father is watching," Dante said coldly, his gaze sweeping toward the second-floor box.

The Don, Antonio Lucchese, stood there like a judge on the bench.

Dante picked up the poisoned glass again and crouched in front of me. He growled, "This is your last chance. Apologize to Martina and admit you pushed her. I can end this right here."

I stared at him and suddenly wanted to laugh. "And then what? Tomorrow she'll come up with a new way to torment me, and you'll still take her side?"

Something flickered in Dante's eyes. His voice was tense as he pressed on, saying, "Martina's father controls the family's smuggling routes for the next three years. We need him. And Martina... She needs to feel safe. She needs to feel completely accepted by the family."

My voice was growing hoarse. "So you're offering me up to her like a toy? Letting her bully me and frame me however she wants, while you always choose to believe her?"

Dante said hurriedly, "You'll be fine. We have the antidote ready. In three days, you'll be okay. This way Martina gets the spectacle she wants, and it'll satisfy Father's need for a test..."

I cut him off. "And then I'm supposed to be even more grateful? Supposed to remember forever that the Lucchese family gave me a second life? Supposed to willingly be your trained dog?"

Dante fell silent, and his silence hurt more than the poison ever could.

Well, that silence meant yes, this was the plan. It was a plan to bind me completely with the debt of a staged death.

Enzo gasped. They did not know Eugene had already hired the best doctors for me, and my body was slowly recovering. Nonetheless, there was no need to mention that to them.I stood and walked toward him. "So, when I drank that poison, I repaid whatever debt I owed the Lucchese family for raising me. From that moment on, we were even.""But Father..."I interrupted him and said, "Maybe I should remind you that the Don killed my parents. He orchestrated that 'car accident' 12 years ago because my parents discovered something they shouldn't have: his deal with a federal judge. He needed scapegoats to cover up three murders."The twins froze."They didn't betray anyone." My voice was calm because I had run out of tears 12 years ago. "They were just the scapegoats the Don had chosen. He staged their fake escape, arranged the crash, and killed my parents."A long, suffocating silence followed. The garden roses swayed in the evening breeze, their fragrance almost overwhelming. Finally,

Three days after the wedding, the Lucchese family descended into chaos.Dante and Enzo, following the evidence on the USB drive, arrested Martina and Felix. However, during Martina's interrogation, Antonio learned a far more lethal truth: I possessed the Lucchese family's complete criminal records from the past 20 years.Antonio never allowed anyone to leave alive with the family's secrets.Late that night, Eugene and I were in the study reviewing the Lucchese family's financial network when the alarm suddenly blared.Eugene glanced at the surveillance feed and sneered. "Someone's broken in... Six of them, coming through the east wall. Professional hitmen.""They're from the Lucchese family," I immediately said.Eugene pressed the communicator. "Take one alive. Kill the rest."Over the next 20 minutes, muffled gunshots and screams echoed through the estate. The Corleone family's security system worked like a precision trap, killing the intruders one by one.Eugene remained sea

On the wedding day, the sky was so overcast it seemed even God was frowning at this union. I wore the wedding dress Eugene had sent and watched him waiting for me at the altar. He wore white for the rare occasion, his silver hair gleaming coldly in the candlelight. As I walked toward him on the arm of a family elder, the corner of his mouth curved into the faintest smile."You look beautiful," he whispered in my ear as he took my hand.Halfway through the ceremony, the church doors were suddenly thrown open. Dante and Enzo stormed in with eight armed men. They wore black suits, their waists bulging, clearly all carrying weapons. The guests stirred, and the Corleone family's men instantly went on alert."Excuse the interruption." Dante's voice echoed under the church dome as he stared at me, his eyes bloodshot. "Chiara, I'm asking you one last time. Will you come back with us or not?"Eugene's hand still held mine, his grip steady.I turned to face them, my expression calm bene

That evening, Dante and Enzo stood side by side at my door."Can we talk?" Enzo's voice was soft.I nodded, and a long silence followed."Are you really...going to marry Eugene?" Enzo spoke first, his voice rough.I replied, "The agreement's signed, the dress is delivered, and the invitations are sent. What do you think?"Dante suddenly straightened. "We can cancel it! I'll talk to Father, say you're suddenly seriously ill…"I cut him off and said, "And then what? Wait for Martina to come up with a new way to torment me? Wait until the next time you need to impress Mr. Browne and make me drink another glass of poison?""It wasn't like that!" Enzo grabbed my arm, his fingers trembling. "W…we were wrong, but it was Father's pressure, the family's needs... Our feelings were real, Chiara. Those moments when we protected you, took care of you... They were all real!"I said quietly, "Maybe they were real once. But the moment you chose Martina, all those 'real' moments died."Dante s

At exactly 10 p.m., a man in custom dress shoes stepped onto the ground in front of me.It was Eugene. He was taller than I had imagined, at least six feet three. He wore a perfectly tailored black coat, his silver hair gleaming coldly in the moonlight. His face was sculpted and handsome with high cheekbones and thin lips, but the most captivating feature was his eyes. They were gray-blue like a frozen lake, devoid of any warmth when they looked at someone. He looked down at me from his height and asked, "Where's the evidence?"I pulled a micro USB drive from my inner pocket.Eugene took it and plugged it into his tablet. His fingers swiped rapidly across the screen, his gray-blue eyes glowing like a predator's.He mumbled, "Complete laundering routes, political bribery lists with over 90 percent accuracy, murder records..."Then, he paused and looked up at me. "Including photos from your parents' car crash 12 years ago. How did you get these?"I rasped, saying, "Don Lucchese

  • The Don's Revenge Bride   Chapter 4

After Dante and Enzo left, memories kept coming back to me.When I was 12 and had a high fever with nightmares, Dante and Enzo took turns watching over me.Dante said, "Don't be scared. Nightmares aren't real."Enzo comforted me. "With us here, no one can hurt you."When I was 15 and got bullied by other kids in the family, Dante took on three of them by himself.Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he grinned and said, "Touch Chiara, and I'll break your bones."On my 18th birthday, they both kissed my cheeks under the moonlight: one on the left and one on the right.Enzo said, "You'll always be ours."Dante said, "Always."So that was how short 'always' was.I wiped my tears and touched the ring I had worn for 12 years. Then, I pried open the large pearl on top.Inside was only a yellowed piece of paper with my father's handwriting, written a week before he died.[Chiara, if the Lucchese family ever comes for your life, call this number. He won't refuse you becau
