Chapter 3

Penulis: Dimple M
I went back to the penthouse Victor and I shared.

I numbly poured rubbing alcohol over my bleeding soles.

The physical sting was nothing.

The dead wasteland in my heart hurt worse.

Looking around, it was sickeningly ironic.

Valerie's traces were everywhere.

"Camilla, put this cigar cutter Valerie bought me on the cabinet. I want to see it every day."

"Valerie told me to keep her perfume here. Says it smells like her."

I used to lose my mind over it.

And his smirk would only grow.

He loved watching me choke on jealousy.

Like my pain was proof of my love.

His excuse was always the same, "Camilla, Valerie is just my subordinate. Stop being petty."

Under his daily torture, he got his wish.

I stopped being petty.

I was even ready to hand over my title.

After bandaging my feet, I dragged out a suitcase.

I only packed a few old clothes.

Just as I zipped it, Victor walked in.

He reeked of alcohol.

He was half-carrying Valerie.

He saw the suitcase.

He froze.

His pupils dilated.

To hide his panic, he jerked his head away.

With one hand, he whipped out his phone and typed frantically.

My pocket buzzed.

[A suitcase? She's packing?!]

[Don't go! I was wrong! Just stay, I'll do anything!]

Through the screen, he was begging.

Completely unhinged.

But in reality?

Victor wrapped his arm tight around Valerie's waist.

He pushed down the panic in his eyes.

He sneered at me, "Packing? Camilla, you really think you can survive out there without the Family?"

I looked at his fake posture.

I was so exhausted.

I gave a faint smile, "Don't worry, Don. I'm making room for your replacement. Have fun with your new toy."

Victor's jaw locked, "New toy?"

He was absolutely furious.

Right in front of me, he kissed Valerie like a punishment.

Then, he twisted the knife, "Maybe I should. Valerie is capable. Plus, she can actually give me a healthy heir. You? You're just a barren waste of space."

My mind exploded.

My blood ran cold.

Everyone knew.

Kids were my breaking point.

Six years ago, during a gang shootout.

Victor had a PTSD episode.

I took a bullet for him and ruined my uterus.

To get pregnant, I swallowed handfuls of hormones.

I suffered five grueling rounds of IVF.

My stomach was covered in needle marks.

Now, the trauma that cost me half my life was his weapon against me.

Tears welled up in my eyes, "Victor, you bastard!"

The grief boiled over.

Valerie purred. She leaned against his chest, "Oh, Donna. Don't blame the Don for being honest. You can't breed. Yet you selfishly keep the title. It's your own fault."

Seeing my bloodshot eyes, Victor's panic died.

Replaced by a sick satisfaction.

He thought he'd won again.

He thought my pain meant I couldn't leave him.

He shoved Valerie aside.

He strode toward me.

He brutally ripped the zipper off my suitcase.

He flipped it over.

My clothes spilled out.

Then, he crouched down.

He unzipped the hidden compartment.

He pulled out a dark red box.

Inside was a diamond necklace.

The only thing my mother left me before our family went bankrupt.

I had searched for it for six years.

Victor stood up slowly, "Want to leave?"

He popped the box open.

He dangled the necklace from his finger, "Camilla, do I need to remind you? I paid thirty million on the black market to get this back."

All the color drained from my face.

I was by the front door, putting on my shoes.A shadow fell over me.Victor.He was standing in the doorway, his body blocking the exit. His pale gray eyes stared at me.Like he was afraid I'd vanish. His voice was low, a demand, "Where are you going?"I said, my voice flat, my eyes down, "There's a trauma conference at Mount Sinai today. I have to be there."He stared at me for a long moment. Finally, his shoulders relaxed. He grabbed his keys before I could argue, "I'll drive you."I didn't fight it.I just opened the door and walked to the black armored Maybach. The car smelled of him.Stale cigars and a faint hint of gunpowder. The air was thick.Suffocating.Victor drove one-handed.His eyes were on the road, but I could feel him watching me out of the corner of his eye.We hit the main road.He tried to sound casual, but his knuckles were white on the steering wheel, "You hate Valerie, don't you?"He was waiting for me to lose it.To scream about that woman like I used to.He wan

Victor’s eyes widened. He dropped to his knees in front of me.Like all the strength had just been sucked out of him.Hands that could strip a Glock in three seconds were now clutching my bloodstained dress. His knuckles were white.Shaking.His voice was shattered, a panic I'd never heard from him before, "This... where is this blood from? Camilla, answer me!"I looked down at him.The same man who’d coldly locked me in the dark yesterday.I smiled, but there was no warmth in it, "I warned you yesterday. I told you something was wrong. That I was bleeding. But the great Don Victor thought it was all an act."He snapped his head up, his eyes bloodshot, "Impossible! Your period isn't for another week! You're lying!"It was the sign he was about to break.I almost laughed.I looked down at him, "I'm lying? Valerie sheds one tear and you lock down the whole block. The door locked shut.Darkness swallowed me whole. My phone screen glowed faintly.Just outside the door, he was probably leaning against the wall. His hands shaking as he typed.[She's faking it, right?][She's trying to trick me into opening the door. If I give in, she'll run straight to the airport.][I can't open it! As long as I keep her locked up, she belongs to me forever.]I stared at the psychotic words.I shivered. The pain in my stomach was a meat grinder. With every cramp, warm liquid gushed between my legs. The metallic stench of blood quickly filled the airtight room.I dragged my body to the door.I pounded on it.I fumbled for the intercom button, "Victor! Open the door! I'm bleeding! It hurts so much..."My voice was ragged.Completely hopeless.Over the intercom, Victor's voice was absolute ice.He called my bluff without mercy, "Camilla, your acting is getting pathetic. Your period isn't until next week. What blood?"He was using this cold-blooded mask to hide his t
