Chapter 4

Penulis: Dimple M
When my family went broke, my mother sold our only heirloom.

Getting it back was her dying wish.

Six years ago, Victor scoured the globe.

He won it in a black market auction.

He got down on one knee in the Family chapel.

He proposed to me.

Back then, his eyes were full of love.

Using the necklace, he fastened my mother's only legacy around my neck.

And now?

He stared at me with pure ice, "I only gave this to you to marry you. Now you want a divorce. You're not my wife anymore. What gives you the right to take it? You don't actually think you're worth thirty million dollars, do you?"

His cruel words smashed my pride to pieces.

I choked back the pain, "Thirty million... I'll find a way to pay you back..."

Victor roared. He cut me off, "I don't need it! Camilla, you think I want money? You threw this family away. I'll save the necklace for someone who actually wants to be my wife."

Before I could process it, he walked right past me.

Straight to Valerie.

Right in front of my eyes, he fastened it around her neck.

Valerie smugly stroked the diamonds.

Where Victor couldn't see, she looked at me.

She mouthed, "Dead woman's trash. How pathetic."

Boom.

The last string of sanity in my brain snapped.

That was my mother!

My blood boiled, "Take it off!"

I lunged at her.

I reached for the diamonds.

My fingers hadn't even grazed her skin.

Valerie let out a blood-curdling scream, "Ahhhh!"

She threw herself backward.

Bang!

She hit the floor.

The necklace smashed against the stone tiles.

The chain snapped.

Diamonds scattered everywhere.

Completely shattered.

Dead silence choked the room.

My mind went blank.

Victor whipped around.

He saw the ruined diamonds.

He saw Valerie wailing on the floor.

He closed the distance in one step.

He shoved me backward.

He roared, "Camilla, are you insane?!"

The force was massive.

Caught off guard, I flew backward.

My stomach slammed into the corner of the bed frame.

A violent, blinding pain exploded deep in my abdomen.

Cold sweat poured down my face.

I slumped against the bed to the floor.

My phone tumbled out of my pocket.

It slid right next to my face.

The screen kept lighting up.

I gasped in agony.

Through my blurred vision, I saw Victor's breath hitch.

He was rooted to the spot.

He didn't dare come closer.

Instead, he frantically pulled out his phone.

He typed blindly.

He tried to hide the terror spilling from his eyes.

At the exact same time, inches from my face, the burner account went wild.

[The necklace broke!]

[My only leverage to make her stay is gone!]

[She's really leaving. She's definitely leaving.]

[No! I can never let her leave my territory!]

[Lock her up. Yes. Put her in the basement cell. She can't run away!]

I clutched my cramping stomach.

Fighting through the spasms, I read the deranged text.

My blood ran cold.

I looked up.

I met Victor's dark face.

I shook with pain. I held my belly, "Victor... She fell on purpose. I didn't touch her... My stomach hurts so bad."

I reached my hand out to him.

I just wanted him to look down and see my pale face.

But he didn't.

He didn't even dare to meet my eyes.

To cover up his sheer panic, he roughly yanked me off the floor, "Playing the victim won't work. Since you love acting crazy, go cool off in the basement cell for a day."

I fought him desperately, "Let me go! Victor, it really hurts! Take me to the hospital..."

He ignored me entirely.

He dragged me down the stairs.

He shoved me into the dark, freezing room.

I crashed hard onto the concrete.

The impact sent the agony in my stomach to the absolute limit.

It felt like something was brutally torn out of me.

I felt a rush of warm blood seeping between my legs.

I screamed, "Victor! No!!"

Camilla, answer me!"I looked down at him.The same man who’d coldly locked me in the dark yesterday.I smiled, but there was no warmth in it, "I warned you yesterday. I told you something was wrong. That I was bleeding. But the great Don Victor thought it was all an act."He snapped his head up, his eyes bloodshot, "Impossible! Your period isn't for another week! You're lying!"It was the sign he was about to break.I almost laughed.I looked down at him, "I'm lying? Valerie sheds one tear and you lock down the whole block. The door locked shut.Darkness swallowed me whole. My phone screen glowed faintly.Just outside the door, he was probably leaning against the wall. His hands shaking as he typed.[She's faking it, right?][She's trying to trick me into opening the door. If I give in, she'll run straight to the airport.][I can't open it! As long as I keep her locked up, she belongs to me forever.]I stared at the psychotic words.I shivered. The pain in my stomach was a meat grinder. With every cramp, warm liquid gushed between my legs. The metallic stench of blood quickly filled the airtight room.I dragged my body to the door.I pounded on it.I fumbled for the intercom button, "Victor! Open the door! I'm bleeding! It hurts so much..."My voice was ragged.Completely hopeless.Over the intercom, Victor's voice was absolute ice.He called my bluff without mercy, "Camilla, your acting is getting pathetic.
