I enjoyed the breeze and the sun on my skin as I walked to school. I wish I didn’t have to go to school that my senior year was over, so I wouldn’t have to deal any longer with Mariah and Holli’s crap.

I walked slower, taking my time; my first period was a free period that I did in the front office, filling and helping students; everything that the secretary couldn’t do or needed help with; the school wouldn’t hire her an assistant, so I did it instead.

I like Mrs. Parker. She was very kind; She was in her fifties. She was short, had long light brown hair that was nicely kept up in a bun, no hair out of place, she had a stocky build. She looked like a librarian. I have been helping her since 9th grade. I chuckled at the time we spent together. Her stories I cherish. She had two children and 4 grandchildren. She was widowed at a young age. They killed her husband in action, and so her children and grandchildren took up her free time.

I fell in love with fashion after she showed me how to sew. Outside of school, she had an awesome wardrobe, even though she dressed like a librarian. A real fashionista.

I thought so anyhow; She has become a friend to me, and people laugh at me for it, but I don't pay attention to it. She was delightful. I heard the voice again as I got closer to school." My dear zayla, all will be revealed in due time. Stay alert and watch out for danger." Damn, this voice is freaking me out. I felt like I was going crazy.

As I stooped down, I shook my head. I felt like I’m going to have a panic attack or something as I was crouched down with my head in my palms, struggling to catch my breath. I felt a smack to my ass. I was about to give someone a friendly punch to the face when I shot up angrily with my fists in the air.

“WHOA, hold up, killer; it’s just us. Calm down, “I noticed it was Jenifer and Amanda strolling up further to me as they had backup when I got up, so I wouldn’t hit them. As my heart rate started to go back to normal, I took a few more calming breaths.

“You okay? Amanda asked, her eyes showing concern, but before I could answer, Jenifer spun me around to face her and grasped me. Wow, your hair is amazing. Did you dye it? she questioned, looking surprised because I would never have done it before.

“No, I woke up like this,” I answered shakily. “What ?!! “Okay, we need details. You owe us; your mother called this morning.” She stated. I rolled my eyes.

“Of course she did,” I replied annoyingly.

I told them everything except that I was hearing a voice. I didn’t want them to think I was insane because what I was already telling them was crazy enough, but I still couldn’t wrap my mind around it. Their face was pale, and they had questions in their eyes as we arrived at school.

“Listen, I know you have questions. I will answer what I can do during lunch. We headed to the office as we entered the school. I hurried inside after giving them a weak smile.

I put myself down on the desk that was over the corner. “ Good morning, Mrs. Preston. Mrs. Parker sang out.”Good morning. I brought you some hushpuppies. “ Thank you, dear, we got some papers to file and a new student is arriving and I need you to show him around” Great, just what I need. I think it will keep my mind off of everything. “Okay,” I said, getting straight to work.

An hour later, I finished up what I was working on since I still had to leave some time left before the new student arrived. I decided to go grab some coffee from the lunchroom. The one in the front office tasted like old gym shoes.

“Mrs Parker, I am going to the lunchroom to grab some coffee. Do you want anything?” I asked," No dear, just hurry back before the new student arrives sweetie”. “Okay, be right back “ I nodded leaving the office I headed out the door down the hallway to the cafeteria and walked into the kitchen, and poured myself a cup of coffee, hearing humming I turned around and saw the school’s cook Mr. Cline.

“Good morning, Mr. Cline,” I said, trying to catch his attention."Good morning, Zayla. Are you ready for the day?" He asked without even looking up from what he was doing. “Yes, how’s your morning going?” I asked," going great, “is all he said.

I chuckled a little as he continued working. He wasn't much of a talker. He claimed it interrupted his art. “

As I went back to the office, I got a couple of texts from Jenifer and Amanda, asking if everything is all right and what my plans were so we could talk, I reminded them we could I guess I was so into texting out my message because I didn’t realize I ran into a wall or what I thought was a wall, I ended up falling backward spilling my coffee all over my Self and me throwing my phone as well it landing on the linoleum floor with a sicking crunch...

“Hey, are you all right? “I heard a deep husky voice say. As I looked up I was astonished by the most handsome guy, I had ever seen then I realized it was the boy from the woods, he put his hand out to help me up, I was still staring at his handsomely sculpted face and my eyes traveled down his massive athletic body when my eyes moved back to his sumptuous lips he returned he a little grin “Like what you see “he taunted.

This made me heated and ashamed that he had caught me ogling him. I pushed his hand aside. “I don’t call for your help. Why are you stalking me? I asked him as I picked myself up before he could add anything. I found my phone and marched to the office door and left him standing there with a stunned look on his face.

The palace has a way of swallowing sound. Every footstep, every breath, every nervous shuffle of the royal guard is lost beneath the oppressive hush of black marble and ancient secrets. The court has melted away; only the condemned, the executioner, and the specter of a mother remain. Zayla feels the chill of the corridor in her bones. Her wrists are ringed red where the silver cords burned her, a reminder that even inside the walls of her inheritance, she is a threat to be managed. Beside her, Bella’s jaw is set in a line that could cut glass. The only thing that betrays her twin’s calm is how her pupils flare, tiny blue infernos as they pass each mounted torch. She’s angry, yes, but also afraid. Behind them, the rest of the survivors limp forward. Jenifer moves with her usual feline grace, but her left arm is clamped tight against her ribs, the wound from the battle still seeping through a makeshift bandage. Alex stays close, supporting Jenifer when the pain spikes, not saying

As we ventured deeper into the elder’s house, the atmosphere thickened with anticipation. The elders had spoken of confronting the past, but I could feel something more sinister lurking in the shadows. The air grew colder, and the flickering candlelight cast eerie shapes on the walls, as if the very spirits of our ancestors were watching us. We entered a dimly lit chamber adorned with ancient tapestries depicting forgotten battles. In the center stood an ornate pedestal, upon which rested a weathered tome bound in dragonhide. The elder gestured for us to approach, her expression grave. “This book holds the key to your lineage and the truth of the shadows that haunt you.” As I reached for the tome, a sudden rush of energy surged through me, and I felt Ari stir within. “Be careful, Zayla,” she warned, her voice echoing in my mind. “Not all knowledge is meant to be uncovered.” Ignoring the warning, I opened the book, and the pages began to turn on their own, revealing illustratio

The journey to the elder's village unfolded in silence, each of us caught in the web of our own thoughts, the echoes of the recent battle lingering in the cool, crisp air. It felt surreal, stepping away from the chaos of conflict and into the serene embrace of nature. The village lay nestled within a lush valley, framed by majestic mountains that stood like guardians against a turbulent world. As we approached, the elders emerged from their humble huts, their expressions blending curiosity and concern. Time had etched its wisdom onto their faces, each line a testament to battles fought and lessons learned. Their dragon forms were breathtaking, scales sparkling in the sunlight, a vivid reminder of their ancient power. The eldest among them, a grand dragon with scales as white as freshly fallen snow, stepped forward. His piercing blue eyes seemed to look right through me as he spoke with a voice that resonated like thunder, “Welcome, travelers. We have been expecting you.”Taking a deep

The journey to the elder's village felt almost surreal. We were cloaked in silence as we all lost ourselves in thought while navigating the rough terrain. The sun hung high in the sky, its warmth washing over us like a soothing balm, a welcome change from the chill that clung to our bones after the battle. I walked beside Liam, our fingers intertwined, each gentle touch offering comfort and reassurance.I could feel Ari's restlessness inside me. “We did well last night,” she murmured softly in my mind. But this is just the beginning.”I nodded, my gaze fixed on the path ahead. Ari was right—we hadn’t seen the last of Mariah. Her attack was only the first act in a long and challenging drama. There were many things to consider: the council’s involvement, Liam’s impending betrothal, and the queen’s soon-to-arrive presence. Each was like a piece of a puzzle we hadn’t yet solved.Bella strolled alongside Liam on my other side, her hand resting gently on Alex's shoulder. Katie, Bella’s drag
