I stood in utter shock, debating whether to turn around and leave, but I felt an intense pull to open the trunk... I wanted to know—no, I needed to know what was there. Why was I feeling the pull? As I lifted the lid, I noticed pictures, letters, and a purple wooden jewelry box.

I picked up a picture of two babies held by a man and a woman with similar features. As for me, the woman had long raven black with hints of purple Jade colored eyes with a hint of green. She was beautiful. The man had short black hair and blue eyes, and both had mocha skin.

Many questions plagued my mind, and I wondered if this was connected to the weird things happening to me. Who was this couple? And the babies? Was one of them me? And who was the other baby? I turned the picture over, and it had only one readable name: " Isabella." The other names were smudged. I could not make anything out; I set the picture back down and picked up one of the letters. I opened it and began to read:

The atmosphere around me was heavy with anxiety as I desperately tried to apply pressure to Liam's wound. I felt a wave of panic wash over me when I realized he had lost consciousness. My heart ached for him, and I knew I needed to do everything I could to help him pull through. With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and reached out with my mind to my parents, who hid deep within the enchanted forest, their dragon forms coiled among the ancient trees. “We need to get to Cordiva now!” I shouted into the mental link, desperation spilling into my thoughts. “Liam was stabbed!” A moment later, a swirling cloud of shimmering smoke materialized beside her, and her parents stepped forth, their scales glinting like emeralds in the soft, fading light of dusk. As the last rays of sunlight kissed their vibrant forms, they swiftly transformed into human shapes, slipping into the neatly folded clothes Amanda’s parents had provided. “What’s going on?” my father inquired, his brow furrowed with conc

It has been weeks since I lost track of that flying rat with wings and the wannabe fairy. They somehow managed to avoid me, and they ended up capturing Alex. He wasn't the brightest or the toughest soldier, so if they tortured him, he wouldn’t say anything—he better not if he knew what was good for him. I really don't want to eliminate him like I need to do with Liam. Actually, the council wants him brought in for questioning, but I've decided to get rid of him once and for all and blame it on those fire-breathing idiots. That way, no one will question me. My phone rang, and I looked down at it, irritated because it was Henri—the idiot the council put in charge of caring for the other rat with Wings’ sister. He had been undercover for a long time, placed in the queen’s royal council to watch their movements. When the war started, he was assigned babysitting duty. I would have eliminated him long ago if this man had not been the leader's brother. I answered the call, and he sounded

The kiss ignited a brilliant flash of light, and Alex gasped as the curse that had shackled him for so long shattered like glass. That I wasn’t even aware was there. He felt the energy coursing through him, a primal force awakening his true self. The transformation began almost immediately; The ominous cracking and splintering of his bones echoed in his ears, mingling with the harrowing screams that left his lips as his body shimmered like heat rising off the asphalt, stretching and expanding in a mesmerizing transformation. Dark blue and iridescent scales caught the sunlight, sending shimmering reflections dancing across the clearing as he morphed into his majestic dragon form. The air was thick with astonished gasps from the onlookers. "I can't believe it!" Amanda I then heard a clearing of throats. It must be Zayla's Dad as he said, “Well, I guess we need to teach him how to fly, “he said. I nodded my massive head. “How? “ Jenifer finally managed to get out. I just snorted

I shook off the eerie feeling creeping up my spine. My instincts about Liam were right; the anger helped me piece everything together. When Alex told me the truth, I suddenly realized Liam was still chained to the chair. I made my way over and unlocked his chains. As my hands moved over him, I felt a tingling sensation coursing through me. He gasped slightly and turned towards me, his brown eyes looking at me with so much adoration.“Thank you,” he said.“You're welcome,” I replied, starting to back away a little, needing space because of the incredible heat building between us. “We need to make our way upstairs,” I called out, referring to the meeting with my parents, Bella’s, and Zayla’s parents. However, without Liam to help us figure things out, I thought this was the best course of action. I wouldn’t let Zayla and Bella know just yet. Alex agreed reluctantly, and I grabbed his hand as we headed upstairs, tingles shooting straight up our arms. Alex sighed contentedly, which broug

We were all gathered in the dimly lit dining room, a sense of tension hanging in the air as Bella called the meeting to order. Her gaze was serious as she shared the burden of what she had overheard from her mother—the startling news that her mom had been apprehended and was now confined to the basement where Alex was held, waiting for us to decide her fate. Jen spoke up, breaking the heavy silence. “Dad, Layla, I truly feel for what you’re going through, but you must confront the situation with your mate before we face court again. We’ve done everything we can to question him, but he insists that he only speak with you.” I groaned in frustration, burying my head in my hands. A familiar warmth enveloped me as my mom stepped forward to embrace me, her comforting presence a small refuge amidst the chaos. When I glanced at Tim, his eyes met mine, filled with a pained expression that tore at my heart. I knew this was hard for him, but I reminded myself that our safety depended on mak

"Henri, get in here now!" I shouted as I slammed the grimoire I had been looking at shut. Frustrated by the woeful incompetence of my men, I leaned against the cold, crumbling wall of the dimly lit warehouse, the flickering shadows above me dancing ominously under the harsh buzz of the flickering overhead bulb. My gaze was fixed on two of my subordinates, their expressions grim and tense, as they dragged Henry across the grimy floor and unceremoniously flung him to the ground with a thud that reverberated through the stale air. “Get up!” I commanded, my voice sharp and unyielding, cutting through the silence like a knife. Trembling, he scrambled to his feet, his wide eyes gleaming with fear as they darted nervously between me and the escape route that seemed so tantalizingly close yet impossibly far. The tension in the room was thick, almost tangible, as I prepared to confront him with the harsh reality he had been evading. "Remember who you work for," I growled, making him look
