I sit against the headboard of our bed, watching my little jewel sleep. Drake is lying beside her. Her head is resting on his chest. I run my finger through her silky hair and let out a growl. She is sleeping thanks to the pain medication that the doctor gave her. I can feel my dragon coming to the surface when I see the large bruise on her side. I know that under the bandage further down is a fairly large wound that I know will be healed by tomorrow.

“How did they even make it onto our land?” Drake asks.

“From what the trackers could find out they came up the river. Their scent wasn’t detected because they kept downwind the whole time. That is how they surprised the girls. I am just thankful that none of them had been taken.” I answer.
