It's a cold autumn night. I'm running as fast as I can through a thick forest. The moonlight that shines through the trees is bright and you can see the full moon through breaks in the leaves above me. My heart is racing as I look down at the dress and heels I am struggling to run in. As I look over my shoulder at the black figure chasing me I can hear the faint cry of a wolf in the distance. Who or what is chasing me? I gather more of my dress in my hands hoping to improve my speed. I hear the wolf's cry once more but closer this time. I'm out of breath but I can't stop. I must get as far away from the creature chasing me as I can.
I hear the sound of something running closely at my side. Instinctively I look towards the sound. An enormous wolf like creature comes into view and for a moment our eyes lock. The creature's eyes that are silver in color look almost human, but how can that be? The creature lunges over me sending my chaser crashing into a tree knocking him unconscious. I stop and turn towards the wolf-like creature. It approaches me standing on its hind legs. I look up at this incredibly terrifying creature but strangely I feel relieved. Our eyes meet once again and I reach out to caress the beasts cheek. I run my fingers through it's soft silver and black fur. I suddenly feel cold hands reach out from behind me and pull me violently back...
I shoot up startled as fear runs through my body. I quickly look around me and realize I'm back in my room. I flop down on my bed and stare up at the ceiling. It's been two weeks since I've moved into the Draven manor in the town of Draphend and each night is as sleepless as the one before. I was hired by Mr. Draven to be a live-in sitter for his youngest child, a 7 year old girl named Lorie. She's a relatively sweet and calm child. Very mature for her age but she often clings to me. She speaks often of her brother's Nicolae and Victor, neither of whom I have yet to meet. The same day I was hired Mr. Draven had to leave out on a business trip only telling me his son's would return home in a week or so.
I sigh aloud as I look at the clock on my bedside table. 4:00am. I guess I might as well get the day started, I say to myself as I get out of bed. I walk to the double glass doors that lead to the private balcony that connects mine and Nicolae's room. I slide open the door and step outside. I breathe in the crisp autumn night air as I take in the view of the Draven's garden. The manor is full of twists and turns and even after being shown around I still don't dare to explore on my own.
There are four rooms on the second floor, mine, Nicolae's, Victor's, and Lories. I haven't ventured to the third or fourth floors of the manor but can only assume that Mr. Draven's room is on one of those two floors. The night he showed me my room when he left me he went towards the third and fourth floor stairs. Lorie's room is down the hall across from Nicolae's room on the right with Victor's next to hers which leaves mine and Nicolae's side by side on the right.
I stretch and take in more of the cool night air when I notice a faint glow coming from the garden. The glow gets closer and closer and I realize it's Mrs. Draven's soul whom I have seen linger in the garden during previous nights. She smiles and nods her head to me. I smile and nod back before she vanishes into the night air. I wonder what happened to her, I ask myself. I only know that the soul belongs to Mrs. Draven because of the picture that was on Mr. Draven's desk the day I interviewed with him. Mr. Draven spoke of her briefly telling me she was no longer a part of our world and hadn't been for nearly seven years.
I don't dare ask any questions now. How do you explain to your employer you see souls and can see his deceased wife's soul hanging about among other things. Although I'm sure it wouldn't surprise the family a bit seeing as how the Draven's are a family of vampires, but I would still like to keep who I am, or what I am (whatever that may be) to myself.
I go back inside and walk into my private bathroom as everything starts to weigh on my mind. I'm human..I think..but I'm immortal. I can see and communicate with souls. I have visions of a past that I can't remember. I dream about this past often, if one can call it a dream because it feels so real down to every last detail. I see the same face of a man at least once in each vision though I have no clue who he is or what we have in common. I heal faster than a normal person. A wound takes hours to heal instead of days, I have several other things I am able to do and who knows what else I'm capable of. I don't know what I am or who I am. My thoughts get more mucked up as I shower and start to get ready for the day.
I joined a University here in Draphend to try and fit in as much as possible while I'm here. The university has some very interesting courses regarding myths, legends, and the supernatural. Maybe I can find out more about myself while I'm here. I have so many questions I need answers to. Once Mr. Draven informed me they were vampires I read as much as I could on the topic in their library downstairs. Mr. Draven assured me that I was safe as they no longer dined on humans but instead hunted animals to quench their thirst for blood. I assured him I felt in no danger but I still wanted to know everything I could and despite living their lives like normal humans would, there are a few small differences.
Laylaâs POV: I slowly blink my eyes as the room comes back into focus. I sit up slowly to see Amanda sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. âYou should really rest my lady. The little ones will be up soon and we have a long journey to begin tomorrow.â She says with a smile. âA long journey? Where are we going?â I ask curiously. âIt has been decided that we will be returning to the underworld soon.â She replies. âBut..is it safe to be phasing this far with the twins just being born?â I ask as I glance at their cribs. âOh no my lady, your husband has arranged special transportation for us. He insists we go by car until we can go no further then phase into the underworld. Most of the others have already gone ahead and we will follow in three days after you have rested more.â She replies with a reassuring smile. I nod, satisfied with her answer and lie back down onto the soft pillows and let sleep take me once more. As Amanda has said we leave in three days time. We stayed
Laylaâs POV: I cry out in pain in response and I can feel Amanda hand on top of my pelvis. âPush now!â She says and I push as hard as I can and scream out in pain as I begin to feel like I am being ripped in two. âAlright, that was good again!â She says and I push again. Waves of pain continue to crash over me with each push as the minutes seem to drag by. âPlease make it stop!â I cry out in pain and I grip Nicolaeâs hand tighter. âYou're the only one here that can make the pain stop, my lady now push!â Amanda instructs and I push once more. This time however my efforts are not in vain and a small cry echoes in the room within seconds as our first little one enters into the world. âYou're not out of the woods yet my lady. One, two, three, push!â Amanda says again and more pain hits me as I see a woman swaddle my newborn baby in a blanket. âPlease!â I pead as my body pushes again to relieve some of the pain it is feeling. âGood, good, that's it, one more big push!â Amanda say
Laylaâs POV: The day was finally here and we were being summoned into the valley by our enemies. Our army readied themselves and with a wave of my hand I clothed them in the finest armor and gave them the finest weapons. Amanda helped me onto a horse and as I mounted Nicolae came up beside me on a horse of his own. âI may not agree with this but trust you, my queen.â He says with a slight bow. I smile gently at him and then take off at a slow pace to the meeting spot. Once we arrive I spot a general on a horse in the field waiting for our arrival. Nicolae and I approach him and stop a few feet away. âIs this really necessary?â Nicolae asks with his head held high. âThis vision of peace that you are so hell bent on your majesty is just that, a vision. In all my years none of our kind have ever been at peace.â The general says with a smirk. âBut it is possible. I have seen it.â I replied. âAnd we are just supposed to take the word of a witch?â The general laughs. âIf you do not
Laylaâs POV:I can feel the eyes of everyone in the room on me as Nicolae clears his throat and leads me to a chair next to his.âNicolae, we were wrong.â I say after a few moments of silence.âPeace can not exist until we eradicate those who wish to oppose us.â Nicolae says and he leans back in his chair. At that moment I glance at the table to see war strategies laid across it with notes scribbled here and there with a map of the surrounding land and valley.âAre we already at war?â I say with a gasp.âNot yet my queen but it is very close.â John says as he leans forward.âBut that's..How long have I been asleep?â I ask as I begin to try and recall the number of times I had felt the healing touch Nicolae had used.âIt's been a month, your majesty.â John's wife says with her head low.âI want to thank you for helping me.â She says softly as I try to wrap my head around the amount of time I had been asleep in this realm.âNicolae, we canât do this.â I say as tears begin to sting my ey
Nicolaeâs POV:âWhat happened?!â Amanda frets as she checks Layla over.âIâm not sure. All I know is that she got out of bed and walked through the halls as if she was in trance. She entered John's room, found his comatose wife and woke her.â I reply in summary.âShe did what?!â Amanda says loudly.âShe has to stop doing these things! They aren't good for her health if she passes out every time she uses her powers.â Amanda says and begins to dab a damp cloth to Layla's head.âI will send for a physician in the morning just in case. For now you both need to rest.â Amanda says and she stands and gives me a bow before leaving the room.I lay in bed gently next to Layla and slowly try to heal whatever is wrong with her but she doesnât stir. When she still hasnât awoken after a few days I begin to get increasingly more worried. Laylaâs POV:I find myself in the familiar white space that I had discovered was called the Logoic Plane once again and at the sound of Michaelâs voice I turn qui
Laylaâs POV:Our group spent the first few days resting as much as possible and once everyone was refreshed we met with John in the great hall.âI am sure you know what we are here.â Nicolae says from across the table.âYes I do and I have awaited your arrival with much anticipation.â John replies with a smile.âThen tell me what are your thoughts on peace for all the realms?â Nicolae asks.âPeace.â John says as he looks down at his hands.âIs such a thing really attainable?â He asks as he looks up at us with doubt in his eyes.âDonât get me wrong, your majesty, I want peace as much as you do but is it realistic?â He asks.âIt very much is attainable and with your help and the help of others we can achieve that.â I say in a firm but gentle voice.âDaddy daddy!â A little girl suddenly shouts as she runs up to John and climbs in his lap.I look at Nicolae and can see the loving look in his eyes as he watches the two from across the table.âPeace seems like just a dream.â John says as he
