Layla's POV:
By the time I'm finished getting dressed and ready it's time to wake Lorie. I wake her and quickly head down stairs to start making breakfast. I am almost done when I feel Lorie hugging both my legs. I look down at her with a smile and she beams up at me brightly. Her long brunette curls shape her cute little round face and her skin is pale like porcelain. Her big dark brown eyes almost look black making her skin look even paler.
"Whatcha making us today?" Lorie asks innocently.
"Well, I thought I would make us happy jacks!" I replied enthusiastically as I handed her a plate that had a pancake with two strawberries for eyes and a piece of bacon for a mouth.
Lorie giggles and bobs happily to the table with her plate. I bring her some orange juice and syrup then return to the kitchen for my plate and drink. When I return Lorie is eagerly waiting for me to join her.
"You know you don't have to wait on me to eat Lorie." I say as I sit down next to her.
"It's better to eat with someone than alone." She replies happily.
I smile at the thought of her enjoying our time together.
"That is true." I reply as I pour syrup onto our plates.
It's been so long since I really spent any amount of time with anyone that I had forgotten what it was like. I began to realize just how much I really enjoy our time together.
We immediately dig into our breakfast and talk about our expectations for the day when Lorie begins to talk happily about her brother's.
"Nicolae will be coming home today!" She says enthusiastically.
"Really. And what about Victor?" I ask as I bring my glass to my lips.
"He is usually always a few days behind NIcolae. I just know you and NIcolae will get along great though!" She bounces happily in her seat.
"So you don't think Victor will get along with me?" I ask Lorie.
"It's not that. Victor's different. He doesn't give me as much attention as Nicolae does. He's more of the party boy type and is constantly chasing women." She says with a regretful look in her eyes.
I'm momentarily stunned by her words. Lorie is very smart and wise beyond her years. I decide to change the subject and ask about Nicolae instead.
"What is Nicolae like?" I ask.
"He usually has to work a lot but when he's not working he takes care of me and plays with me no matter what it is. We play hide and seek a lot in the garden." She exclaims.
"Are you coming to get me from school today too?" She asks.
"Yes. I will be there at the same time I was yesterday." I reply as I gather our dishes and take them to the kitchen.
"Will you come get me everyday?" She asks as she follows close behind me.
"As long as you want me to, I will pick you up from school everyday!" I reply as we head to the door and grab our things.
Lorie gives me a faint smile before we walk out the door. I can tell immediately something's bothering her.
"What's wrong Lorie? I ask as she gently takes my hand.
Lorie hesitated before speaking.
"Today at school the children are allowed to invite a relative to come eat lunch with them." She starts to explain.
"And I'll be the only kid there who won't have anyone." She continues as she looks down at her feet.
I quickly realize where she is going with this.
"If you want me to Lorie I can come and eat lunch with you." I reply and squeeze her hand.
"Oh would you?!" She replies as she jumps up and down happily.
"I would be happy to!" I reply with a smile.
"What time does your lunch start?" I ask.
"At 12:30! Don't be late!!" She says with pleading eyes.
She gives me a reluctant look like she's skeptical I'll really show up and her eyes show past disappointment. I wonder if her father and brother's ever do these types of things with her.
"I'll be there early!" I reply happily as we reach the front gate of Draphend Elementary, Lories school.
Lorie gives me a tight hug before running off through the gate and up the steps. She turns back just before entering the school and waves. I wave back and give her a reassuring smile. Once she's out of sight I turn and start walking towards the University. Neither school is far from the manor and as far as I can tell Lorie enjoys our walk as much as I do.
I walk briskly towards the university after dropping off Lorie. There are several souls that linger around the town of Draphend and on my walks to the university they smile politely at me and give me a knowing nod. Although I can see souls most other people or creatures can't unless the soul wants to be seen and that is usually under rare circumstances. There will be the occasional dark soul that lingers but the light souls usually help disperse the darkness and they either move on to their next life peacefully or linger here helping to keep the balance.
I'm lost in my thought when I find myself in front of the university. I make my way inside to my first class and find a good seat close to the front and begin reading my textbook highlighting things here and there.Slowly the lecture hall fills up with students and I have to drown out all the background noise to concentrate on the words I am reading. Soon after the room is full Professor Hawthorne enters the room and begins placing his materials for the day across his large podium. I suddenly hear the person next to me sigh loudly.
"Look at all these girls drooling over the teacher." The boy says with annoyance in his voice.
I quickly glance around and notice all the girls in the class are gawking at the Professor.
"To each their own." I say, shrugging my shoulders as I look back at my text book.
The boy beside me starts to speak again but is cut short when our Professor begins the lecture.
Layla’s POV: I slowly blink my eyes as the room comes back into focus. I sit up slowly to see Amanda sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. “You should really rest my lady. The little ones will be up soon and we have a long journey to begin tomorrow.” She says with a smile. “A long journey? Where are we going?” I ask curiously. “It has been decided that we will be returning to the underworld soon.” She replies. “But..is it safe to be phasing this far with the twins just being born?” I ask as I glance at their cribs. “Oh no my lady, your husband has arranged special transportation for us. He insists we go by car until we can go no further then phase into the underworld. Most of the others have already gone ahead and we will follow in three days after you have rested more.” She replies with a reassuring smile. I nod, satisfied with her answer and lie back down onto the soft pillows and let sleep take me once more. As Amanda has said we leave in three days time. We stayed
Layla’s POV: I cry out in pain in response and I can feel Amanda hand on top of my pelvis. “Push now!” She says and I push as hard as I can and scream out in pain as I begin to feel like I am being ripped in two. “Alright, that was good again!” She says and I push again. Waves of pain continue to crash over me with each push as the minutes seem to drag by. “Please make it stop!” I cry out in pain and I grip Nicolae’s hand tighter. “You're the only one here that can make the pain stop, my lady now push!” Amanda instructs and I push once more. This time however my efforts are not in vain and a small cry echoes in the room within seconds as our first little one enters into the world. “You're not out of the woods yet my lady. One, two, three, push!” Amanda says again and more pain hits me as I see a woman swaddle my newborn baby in a blanket. “Please!” I pead as my body pushes again to relieve some of the pain it is feeling. “Good, good, that's it, one more big push!” Amanda say
Layla’s POV: The day was finally here and we were being summoned into the valley by our enemies. Our army readied themselves and with a wave of my hand I clothed them in the finest armor and gave them the finest weapons. Amanda helped me onto a horse and as I mounted Nicolae came up beside me on a horse of his own. “I may not agree with this but trust you, my queen.” He says with a slight bow. I smile gently at him and then take off at a slow pace to the meeting spot. Once we arrive I spot a general on a horse in the field waiting for our arrival. Nicolae and I approach him and stop a few feet away. “Is this really necessary?” Nicolae asks with his head held high. “This vision of peace that you are so hell bent on your majesty is just that, a vision. In all my years none of our kind have ever been at peace.” The general says with a smirk. “But it is possible. I have seen it.” I replied. “And we are just supposed to take the word of a witch?” The general laughs. “If you do not
Layla’s POV:I can feel the eyes of everyone in the room on me as Nicolae clears his throat and leads me to a chair next to his.“Nicolae, we were wrong.” I say after a few moments of silence.“Peace can not exist until we eradicate those who wish to oppose us.” Nicolae says and he leans back in his chair. At that moment I glance at the table to see war strategies laid across it with notes scribbled here and there with a map of the surrounding land and valley.“Are we already at war?” I say with a gasp.“Not yet my queen but it is very close.” John says as he leans forward.“But that's..How long have I been asleep?” I ask as I begin to try and recall the number of times I had felt the healing touch Nicolae had used.“It's been a month, your majesty.” John's wife says with her head low.“I want to thank you for helping me.” She says softly as I try to wrap my head around the amount of time I had been asleep in this realm.“Nicolae, we can’t do this.” I say as tears begin to sting my ey
Nicolae’s POV:“What happened?!” Amanda frets as she checks Layla over.“I’m not sure. All I know is that she got out of bed and walked through the halls as if she was in trance. She entered John's room, found his comatose wife and woke her.” I reply in summary.“She did what?!” Amanda says loudly.“She has to stop doing these things! They aren't good for her health if she passes out every time she uses her powers.” Amanda says and begins to dab a damp cloth to Layla's head.“I will send for a physician in the morning just in case. For now you both need to rest.” Amanda says and she stands and gives me a bow before leaving the room.I lay in bed gently next to Layla and slowly try to heal whatever is wrong with her but she doesn’t stir. When she still hasn’t awoken after a few days I begin to get increasingly more worried. Layla’s POV:I find myself in the familiar white space that I had discovered was called the Logoic Plane once again and at the sound of Michael’s voice I turn qui
Layla’s POV:Our group spent the first few days resting as much as possible and once everyone was refreshed we met with John in the great hall.“I am sure you know what we are here.” Nicolae says from across the table.“Yes I do and I have awaited your arrival with much anticipation.” John replies with a smile.“Then tell me what are your thoughts on peace for all the realms?” Nicolae asks.“Peace.” John says as he looks down at his hands.“Is such a thing really attainable?” He asks as he looks up at us with doubt in his eyes.“Don’t get me wrong, your majesty, I want peace as much as you do but is it realistic?” He asks.“It very much is attainable and with your help and the help of others we can achieve that.” I say in a firm but gentle voice.“Daddy daddy!” A little girl suddenly shouts as she runs up to John and climbs in his lap.I look at Nicolae and can see the loving look in his eyes as he watches the two from across the table.“Peace seems like just a dream.” John says as he
