Veronica POV
I expected sporadic sleep thru the night. Something about Travis’s change of heart kept poking at the back of my mind. As soon as I laid my head on Niko’s shoulder I relaxed. I wasn’t sure I would ever grow accustomed to the way it felt when we touched.
The alarm began to buzz, before I was able to reach for it, I felt Niko stretch his arm over me. Instead of returning to his position he pulled my body on to his locking his arms around my waist. I was happy to delay leaving the safety of the blankets for a few moments.
“Good morning, Angel.” His raspy voice spoke singing to my ears. “I would just like to say staying in bed all day seems like our best option.” He began to leave ki
Nikola POV I sat in my office after updating Peter on the situation with Travis. I knew I would have his support. He knew that wasn’t something I was going to run by him first. Luckily, he trusted me as he should. He made sure I covered everything before heading to Roni’s office. I tried to join him, but he made sure to send me to my own office. I felt Roni become anxious through the bond. She seemed to be overwhelmed for a moment, recovering quickly. Unable to sit still I paced in my office. Suddenly I felt a change in the bond. I couldn’t tell what it was, it was as if she was beginning to reject me or something. Unable to hold myself back, I burst into her office. Roni sat in her ch
Nikola POV As I made my way around the kitchen preparing tea for Roni my cell phone was in my left hand as I texted a few contacts. Not knowing what happened with Roni was causing my wolf to remain at the surface. I didn’t want to leave her to run. I needed to control it long enough to ensure she is safe. Hearing footsteps on the porch I rushed to the door to open it before the knock. I didn’t think the pack doctor would be so quick, the hospital he volunteers at is over 45 minutes away. The tall man standing in the door was not the pack doctor. He looked familiar with ash blonde hair and green eyes. I could sense he wasn’t human. Typically, with vampires we can sense the air change an
Veronica POV Friday evening came quicker than I thought. Today felt great. Nikola insisted I work from home the rest of the week to fully recover. It amazed me that he worried so much. I convinced him to still take our trip to get his things, the drive was peaceful. It helped keep my mind off things. I took a few zoom meetings with Bella and the team. Travis was staying out of the picture; the divorce papers were received Thursday afternoon and I worried he would not sign them. If he did, he hadn’t sent them back yet. Nikola and I were ready for Jessie’s football game. I could tell he was excited to see Jessie play. It helped sooth my anxiety bringing him into the kids’ l
Veronica POV I began to wake in a haze. My head hurt from the inside out. I wasn’t sure where I was, I could hear voices; I was straining to make out the words. As the pain in my head grew worse, I tried to remember the last thing before I blacked out. I was in Nikola’s truck. He went inside because the door was kicked in. My brother is going to kill me for that, I thought. I remembered being in the truck, closing my eyes trying to stay calm. My mind was going a million miles an hour thinking of the possibilities. I wasn’t used to so much danger and excitement. I remembered hearing the car door open behind me. I thought it was Nikola but when I turned around to look everything
Nikola POV I followed the trail until I hit a main road where I could still smell the exhaust from the vehicle that took them. My anger was out of control. My mind running wild with how they were able to get away with her so quickly without making a noise. I ran back to Roni’s house linking the pack members searching for her. Peter was sending out search parties to known vampire locations. I did my best to fix the broken door before cleaning the glass that was in Roni’s Jeep. An hour later Torvi and Jessie arrived at the house. I felt horrible. I needed to explain to them that their mother was kidnapped. Torvi approached me in the living room after Jessie got in the shower. I was sure
Nikola POV Sunday morning came too quickly. The wolves had no luck finding Veronica. After I informed Peter about my conversation with the woman at Theo’s house; he advised me to wait it out. My wolf hadn’t stopped stirring. Feelings Veronica’s emotions quiver through the bond caused me to rarely get any sleep. “Good morning, Niko.” Torvi said entering the living room. “You know Mama would tell you to sleep in the bed and not on the couch.” “I wanted to be closer to the door in case she came back.” I admitted part of the truth. I was barely able to go in her room. Her scent filled the house sti
Veronica POV “Roni, what is it?” Nikola said as his anger and confusion rose. “Theo just gave me a lot of information. I am just not sure what to make of it yet.” I said this time taking a step towards him and taking his hand in mine. I still wanted his touch, needed it even. I took a deep breath, trying to figure out how to truly sense everything he was feeling. When I asked him my questions, I needed proof that he was answering honestly. Though I was beginning not to trust myself. “When did you learn I was your mate?” I asked coldly. &nb
Veronica POV “Mama! Are you ready?! Theo is outside with Nikola so you better hurry!” Torvi yelled from the front door. I came rushing out of the bedroom stumbling in my boots not used to the 2-inch heels. My dress was a silver/grey that went to my mid-thigh. My black jacket was in my left hand as my right held my braid together. “I need a hair-tie!” I said flustered. “Here, now let’s go before they get into an argument, AGAIN!” Torvi said loud enough for them both to hear. Over the last 6 weeks the two
