Chapter 7

Author: Lotus
Over the past few days, Vincent had been taking Sofia all over Euroland, indulging her every whim.

Her Instagram was filled with private jets, top-tier jewelry, and limited-edition sports cars.

At the same time, every mafia family received an invitation to the Costa family's birthday banquet.

On the day of the event, Vincent stood among the crowd, listening to the endless compliments, yet an odd sense of irritation lingered beneath the surface.

It had been a long time since he last heard from me.

In the past, whenever he traveled, I would send him message after message. Even if he did not reply, I would still keep checking in, stubbornly showing I cared.

However, those past few days, his phone had been completely silent.

Uneasy, Vincent stepped out onto the terrace under the excuse of getting some air and dialed my number.

No answer.

He frowned and called the house steward instead.

"Where is she?"

"Sir, Miss Isabella left a few days ago and hasn't come back since."

Vincent's expression darkened instantly, his voice turning icy.

"Where could she possibly go? She's an orphan. Without me, she can't survive anywhere. Once she's done throwing her tantrum, she'll crawl back on her own."

A friend approached with a smile, handing him a cigar.

"What, still thinking about that girl?"

Vincent instinctively glanced toward Sofia, who was surrounded by guests, glowing under their attention. Then he replied calmly, "It's over."

"Good," his friend said with a knowing look. "The Costa family's principessa is the only one worthy of being your Donna."

Vincent suppressed the strange restlessness in his chest and put on a polite smile.

"Meeting Sofia was the greatest stroke of luck in my life."

Not far away, Sofia happened to overhear him. Her face flushed instantly as the people around her began to cheer and tease.

However, just as the mood warmed, her close friend Anna hurried over, her expression tense. She leaned in and whispered something in Sofia's ear.

Sofia's gaze sharpened, and her smile froze.

"Are you sure?"

Anna nodded firmly.

In the next second, Sofia's expression changed dramatically. She let out a sharp, panicked scream. "Has anyone seen my crown? My diamond crown is missing!"

"What crown?" Vincent frowned immediately.

"It was a coming-of-age gift from my father," Sofia said, her voice trembling as she forced out a sob. "It has five ten-carat diamonds on it. It's priceless."

The entire banquet hall erupted into commotion.

Vincent quickly stepped in to calm things down. "Don't panic. Seal all the exits. Whoever took it couldn't have gone far."

He strode off to make arrangements.

Left behind, Sofia lowered her gaze, then suddenly turned to her friends.

"I was in the dressing room on the second floor earlier. Maybe I left it there."

The group chattered as they headed upstairs. That was when they saw me, carrying a suitcase, about to head up as well.

Sofia immediately covered her mouth in exaggerated surprise.

"Isn't that Isabella? How did she get in here?"

Anna's voice rose sharply. "I saw her sneaking around earlier. She must have stolen the crown!"

Several women rushed toward me, Sofia's eyes burned with anger.

"I told you to stay far away. Did you lose your way or something? You've already left the family, so why are you still following us?

"It must have been you who took my crown!"

I raised an eyebrow slowly and looked at them.

This morning, I had gone to headquarters to retrieve the diamond crown my mother had prepared for me. I was on my way to the dressing room to change into my gown.

I had not expected to walk straight into such a ridiculous scene.

Anna stepped forward, looking me up and down with open disdain.

"Dressed like that? Don't tell me you snuck in pretending to be staff.

"Come on, where's the crown? We know you're poor. It's normal to be tempted when you see something valuable, but stealing from the Costa family? You must have a death wish.

"Sofia is too kind to say anything, but we won't let this slide. Hand it over."

In December, the winds of Sicelia cut sharp and cold. The engagement banquet was held at the Costa family's oldest estate.Built along the coastline, the manor overlooked the dark blue Mediterranean through towering floor-to-ceiling windows.Tonight, every light was blazing.Almost every Don, family representative, and council elder in the mafia world had gathered here.I stood on the terrace of the grand hall, looking down at the crowd below.I wore a custom gown, with my mother's emerald shawl draped over my shoulders.Matteo stepped up beside me. Dressed in a deep gray suit, his broad shoulders and commanding presence seemed to quiet the world around him."Nervous?" he asked softly."A little," I admitted. He let out a low laugh and gently placed his warm hand over mine. "Don't be. I'm here."I turned to meet his gaze. There was nothing in his eyes but admiration and love.I smiled. "I know."Below us, the orchestra began to play a slow, elegant melody.Matteo extended

Vincent became obsessed with seeing me.He waited outside the Costa family headquarters like a vagrant.Every attempt to contact me failed. His calls were always redirected. The letters he sent were returned unopened. The girl he once summoned and dismissed at will had become a principessa he could no longer even glimpse. He started repeating the same words to everyone around him."It wasn't her. My Bella would never do this."She's soft, she's kind. She wouldn't be this ruthless."It has to be the Costa family pulling the strings. It has to be."The louder he spoke, the emptier his eyes became. In the end, Vincent broke.Under the weight of blow after blow, he finally understood something clearly. The girl he had treated like a possession, someone he thought he could control, had always had the power to destroy him.He began to have nightmares every night. In his dreams, I was still the girl who handed him a can of tomatoes by the sea. When he woke up, all that remained

I sat in the passenger seat of Matteo's car.The window was half open, and the salty sea breeze rushed in, sweeping away the heavy scent of perfume.I had assumed he would take me somewhere extravagant. A private club. A Michelin-starred restaurant. However, when the car came to a stop, I froze. In front of me was a small seaside restaurant. The wooden sign above the door was weathered by years of wind and salt, with the word "Home" written in Sicelian dialect.Wind chimes hung under the porch, ringing softly in the breeze."Why here…" I murmured, surprised."In this city, it's my favorite place," Matteo said as he opened the door for me. His voice softened in the wind. "It's also where I first saw you.""The first time you saw me?" I frowned, confused. He guided me inside. The place was simple. Wooden tables and chairs. Faded paintings of the sea hung on the walls.Behind the counter stood a middle-aged man with a kind smile. When he saw Matteo, he nodded respectfully.I

Sofia's sobbing stopped abruptly. "What… what do you mean?""That driver," Vincent said slowly, each word deliberate, "he claimed he was your man.""That's a lie. He was framing me."Vincent listened to her excuses and let out a tired sigh.He should have known. She would never admit fault."Enough," he cut her off. "Then why did you send him to hit Isabella?""I didn't want to kill her," Sofia screamed. "I just wanted to scare her. I wanted her to stay away from you."He did not respond. His silence only made her break down further."Vincent, what is this supposed to mean? Are you feeling sorry for her now? Do you regret it? Isn't the one you love supposed to be me?"I'm carrying your child. Your own blood."Vincent closed his eyes."Sofia, I can't help you.""Vincent, you promised you would marry me. You said you would make me your Donna.""That was because you were the Costa family's principessa."His voice finally broke, anger rising to the surface."I humored you,

(Third-person perspective)In just one night, the Russo family fell from the strongest force in the region into the abyss. After the banquet, the Costa family was the first to cut off all cooperation.Soon after, the other families that had already reached agreements began to withdraw one by one.Rival families moved quickly, severing the Russo family's weapons, drug, and smuggling routes. The core members looked pale, their arguments nearly tearing the room apart."I told you not to offend the Costas!""What's the point of saying that now? Three of our armories have been wiped out. We've lost millions!"Even worse, the family's internal information had somehow been exposed."Don, our legitimate businesses, the restaurants and shipping companies, their stocks are crashing!"Some members even had their identities leaked.Vincent listened to the reports, his voice icy. "Find out who leaked the information."The consigliere wiped sweat from his forehead, his voice shaking. "Th
