When we made it out to the parking lot, Angela and Lacey followed us as we followed Victor and Daya. When we watched them get on the interstate toward his offices, I felt safe enough to suggest, “Okay. Looks like he’s going back to work. We can head home now.” He smirked, “Is it my home too?” I chuckled, “I would like for it to be.” He turned to face me so fast I thought he was going to get whiplash, “Do you mean that?”

I nodded, biting my lower lip, “I do mean it. Am I going too fast?” He turned back to face the road, “I don’t think so. That’s what I’ve wanted since before I left for boarding school. I always dreamed of us living together, married or not, it never mattered to me. I just wanted to wake up to see your face first thing in the morning every day.” I gushed, “You are so sweet. I would like you to move in with me whenever it’s convenient for you.”

He sighed, “Hang on”. He told his car to call dad and it started ringing. Theodore answered on the second ring, “Danny, what’s g

Daniel smiled gently at me, then took my hand in his, “I have always known you to be strong, feisty, stubborn, but still very patient. You’ve always been smart yet gullible and wild when you want to be, with a calm demeanor. I have always been fascinated by you. I don’t want a boring wife. I want you. I won’t settle for less.”I smiled widely, “Do you know how long I have wanted to hear that you want me? I want you too, Daniel. I’ve wanted you for a long time. I wish we could’ve skipped over the whole Victor fiasco.” He laughed, “Fiasco?” I laughed, “Yes. It’s not fun. It really never was from the moment he put the ring on my finger. I swear… instant asshole.” Daniel laughed out loud, “I know he’s an asshole. He takes after his mother.”As we continued talking, Daniel never let go of my hand and I could feel a couple of people staring at us. I asked, “Are they staring at us?” He chuckled, “How did you know?” I chuckled, “I could always sense his condescending stare, no matter where I

When we arrived at the café, Victor and Daya were already waiting at a table. The look on Victor’s face when he saw his brother walk in with me was priceless. Daniel and I looked at each other and smirked at their mouths gaping open. We walked to their table and sat opposite them.I held up one finger, asking them to wait, and I took a voice recorder out of my bag. I turned it on and spoke, “Now that we are all here, Victor, since you chose to bring your mistress, Daya, I brought your brother, Daniel as my witness. So, what did you want to talk to me about?”Victor demanded, “I want the beach house.” I laughed, “We both know that is non-negotiable. I will get the beach house. You have the option to buy another one or to buy some land and build one. You can afford it if you sign the papers that are waiting at your attorney’s office.“If you do not sign them, I will sue for divorce and you know that will not be a quiet ordeal. I will go public with our marriage and show evidence of how y

I woke up the next morning and turned on my phone. Several missed calls from Victor; all from before he spoke with Lacey and one good morning text from Daniel, which made me smile. I texted him back, “Good morning. Thank you for giving me a reason to smile. A real rarity before my first cup of coffee.”I smiled when he texted back, “I’d be happy to start your days off right every day.” I replied, “I wouldn’t mind that. My housekeeper woke me up in the middle of the night with a phone call from my attorney/best friend. Apparently, your brother is bringing Daya to the meeting.”Daniel replied, “So why don’t I join you?” I smiled, “You know what? Why not. Do you want to come over early and we can catch up so you don’t get surprised by anything?” He answered, “I would love to. What time? How about anytime after seven am. I need time to take a shower and get dressed. I also have a new chef starting today, so I will need to get her settled in as well.”Daniel suggested, “I’ll be there at aro

I put my phone next to me and started sketching, my phone quiet, until one hour later. I saw it was Lacey calling and answered on the second ring, “Hey, did he call you?” She answered with an exasperated sigh, “To be honest, Harley, I think he’s falling in love with you now. He started asking me when you became this confident woman. I laughed at him and told him this was the way you were before you married him”.I laughed, “I bet that’s killing him.” She agreed, “I think you’re right.” I shook my head, “I will never change who I am for a man again.” She answered, “That’s the Harley I know and love. Now, the reason I called is because he wants to speak with you… in person. I told him it would have to be in a public place with me present or recording the conversation. He agreed to record the conversation.”I agreed, “Okay. We can meet for lunch tomorrow at our favorite café.” She replied, “I will let him know. Are you okay?” I nodded, “I’m really good. I took a really long nap, Annie had

Lacey sighed, “Who knew you would get pregnant on the first and only time you slept with that idiot?” I shrugged, “Well, I guess I now have something to think about. I just hope this doesn’t keep Daniel from dating me”. Lacey sighed, “There is no telling. I guess we’ll find out”.Angela parked her car in front of us and we got in. Angela immediately asked, “So, what happened?” Lacey explained what happened and told her that I am pregnant. She asked, “Are you going to tell dipshit?” I chuckled, “Yeah. I need to. He needs to know so he can choose if he wants to be a part of its life. I may wait until after the divorce is done, though.”Lacey cringed, “Am I going to have to revise the divorce agreement again? We need to add a visitation schedule and child support to it now.” I shook my head, “We can do all that separately, after the baby is born.” I am going to tell him soon, I just don’t know if I want to do it today. I don’t want any more stress than I already have. I also need to eat
