When we got home from the doctor, I handed a container of decaf coffee to Amy, “The next six months are going to suck. I can’t have regular coffee anymore. With my stress levels being so high, the doctor thinks an excess of coffee is making my reactions to stressors higher than they would normally be.” Amy nodded, “I had a feeling they were going to do that.”Daniel added, “We don’t need anything else that can affect their weight either. Twins are always born small anyway.” Amy and Annie did the same thing we all did in the doctor’s office, “What?” Annie asked, “Twins? You’re having twins?” I nodded, “Yep. Apparently, one was hiding behind its sibling during the first ultrasound.” Annie smiled, “This is going to be so much fun!”Amy laughed, “My younger sisters were twins. They were so conniving. Even before they could talk, they would plan stuff. It was like they had their own language. One would go after something they both wanted while the other got into something they knew they we
Daniel and Victor whipped their heads to the tech, “What’s wrong?” If I hadn’t also been concerned, I would’ve laughed. They each asked that question at the exact same time. The tech chuckled, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. It’s just that I found a second baby.” This time, all three of us simultaneously startled, “What?”She nodded, “I will go and get your doctor. She can explain when she gets here.” The tech walked out and, just moments later, she walked back in with the doctor following. Doctor Martin smiled at me, “Well, it seems we have a surprise baby.” I nodded, “How was it not found on the last ultrasound?”She smiled, “Sometimes, especially in the first trimester, a fetus can hide in the shadows that are created by other organs or behind the first fetus. It looks like your little one was hiding behind its sibling. You’re going to have to keep an eye on that one. Often times, the way they behave in the womb is the way they are in the world. This one likes to hide.”I si
Harley POVWhen I woke up the next morning, I looked at the time and decided that it was time to get ready for my doctor’s appointment. I disentangled myself from Daniel’s arms and went to the bathroom. After taking my shower and brushing my teeth, I walked out of the bathroom and found Daniel lying in bed watching me get ready. I chose a pair of leggings and a long silk, button up shirt and put them on.I asked Daniel, “Are you coming to my appointment?” He smiled, “Of course. I just heard from Victor. He’s already ready to go.” I laughed, “A little excited; is he?” Daniel chuckled, “Baby, both of us are excited.” I smiled, “Well, then, let’s go eat breakfast.” He nodded, “Yeah, I’m going to take a quick shower. I’ll join you downstairs. You go ahead and eat.” I kissed him quickly and answered, “I’ll wait for you. I’m just going to grab some coffee.”I walked downstairs to find Amy cooking while Annie cleaned. Both ladies greeted me with a warm smile, “Good morning, Harley. How are yo
Victor POVHoly Shit! I’m going to be a father! I will be forever tied to my ex-wife, but I’m fine with that. I almost like her more now that we’re divorced. Better Harley than Daya. Daya has become entirely too clingy and her voice is driving me up a wall. At least her lying ass is giving me a break for the next month.FLASHBACKJudge Trayner asked, “Bailiff, would you please bring in Miss Daya Lachland?” The bailiff stepped through a door and led the way for Daya and the two guards holding on to her. She stood at her table and gave my ex-wife a look that could kill while the guards took off her handcuffs. It took all I had in me not to say something. As soon as Daya faced forward, Judge Trayner started, “On the charge of perjury, you, Daya Lachland, have entered a plea of not guilty. May I ask why you have entered this plea when I was sitting right next to you when you did it?” Daya lowered her gaze and responded, “I panicked, Your Honor. I did not plan to perjure myself.”Judge Tray
I asked, “You really like it?” He nodded exaggeratedly, “I’m going to need to keep you right by side the entire night.” I smiled, “I don’t plan on leaving your side.” He stood up and walked around me, “Your cape has a train?” I responded in a breathy tone, “Just a small one. What do you think?” He walked to stand in front of me, “I’m going to be so proud to stand beside you. I want to show you off to the world”.I hummed, “Mmm I do love the sound of that.” He put his hands on my waist and pulled me closer. I put my arms around his neck and he started dancing with me. I sighed and leaned into his chest, “This is the kind of relationship that I have always dreamed of.” He asked, “What do you mean?”I answered, “I have always wanted a man who accepts every part of me: my likes and dislikes, my creative side, my snarky side and my super-emotional side. When I love, I love with all of my heart, body and soul. That’s why it hurt so profoundly when I realized Victor never would love me. I hon
As we were driven home, the driver announced to us, “Mister Cross, it looks like we have some guests.” We looked out the back window and found three cars coming up fast. Daniel held me close and told the driver, “Lose them. Don’t worry about the speed. Don’t go near our home without losing them.” The driver responded, “Yes sir. Hold on.”We felt it when the driver sped down the street and turned onto a variety of back roads for nearly thirty minutes. It wasn’t until I could tell we were behind my shop that I started to relax. The driver slowed down and parked in the parking garage. He turned off the engine and the other two security vehicles parked close to us.As soon as everyone was out of the vehicles, Daniel was nearing his boiling point when he commanded, “Find out who that was. I doubt they were reporters.” All the bodyguards answered, “Yes sir,” as they surrounded us, forming a solid wall to keep anyone from seeing who was going in.Two men went in with us while two men stayed a
