“I said it’s none of your business, Mr. Reed. You don’t get that, do you?”

“You hurt her.”

The words hit Harry like a slap. He suddenly realized what had just happened. His gaze dropped to Evelyn’s wrist, still trapped in his grip, where faint red marks were starting to show. His expression stiffened, and he quickly let go. “I’m sorry, Evelyn. I didn’t mean to.”

“It’s okay.”

Evelyn forced a small smile, then stepped closer to Sebastian and deliberately looped her arm through his. “Harry, I already promised Sebastian I’d have dinner with him. Is there something important you want to talk about? If not, how about you join us? Sebastian’s not a stranger.”

The name Sebastian seemed to echo in Harry’s head, and his face instantly went pale.

“Harry? What’s wrong?” Evelyn’s voice broke through his daze.

Harry blinked, as if snapping out of a trance. “No, it’s nothing. We’ll talk another time.” He glanced at Sebastian briefly, then turned and got into his car. The engine roared to life, and a

The car left the outskirts of Boston and headed toward a quiet residential area outside the city. Sebastian had prepared this moment for a long time, wanting to tell Evelyn that they weren’t strangers who’d just met, but two people whose lives had crossed long ago, as if fate had tied them together since childhood. When the car stopped by the side of the road, they stepped out. Rows of old villas lined the hills, each one built far from the next. Only old estates ever had that much land to spare; nothing new was built like this anymore.“Where are we?” Evelyn asked, confused as she looked around.“You don’t remember?” Sebastian pointed at a white villa in front of them. “That one.”Evelyn froze. Her gaze locked on the building, and slowly, something flickered in the back of her mind. It felt strangely familiar.“I used to live here when I was little.”“How old were you?”“Five or six, maybe. I don’t remember much, but yeah… I think I lived here.”“Right.” Sebastian pointed to a small

Lack of evidence. Evelyn stared at her phone screen in disbelief. Her voice sharpened as she asked if the direct transfers between Camilla Summers and the men who attacked Liam weren’t enough to prove a transaction. Liam’s injuries were far from minor. That should’ve been more than enough to put someone behind bars.Officer Raymond hesitated before admitting that wasn’t the issue. He sounded nervous. He advised Evelyn to drop the case because it wouldn’t end well. When she asked if Camilla Summers had been released, Raymond confirmed it. There was a pause before he admitted someone had interfered. Evelyn immediately guessed the Reed family, but all Raymond could do was apologize. That apology meant two things. First, a case with clear evidence couldn’t move forward. Second, even Raymond didn’t have the power to resist pressure from above, let alone tell her who had stepped in.Evelyn hung up, and her expression slowly hardened. Anger rose inside her, thick and cold like morning fog.A

Delilah shook her head slowly.“This is insane. They have that much power? Enough to bury a case like that and protect their own family on top of it?”Evelyn closed the file in front of her.“For a charge that serious, the police wouldn’t just release someone for fun. I checked. The Summers family doesn’t have any real connections in Boston. They only came back to the country recently.”Delilah let out a relieved sigh.“Good. Then I can go home.”“Yeah. Drive safe.”Once Delilah left, Evelyn opened her laptop again and tried to get back to work. But her focus was gone. Her eyes moved across the screen, but her mind didn’t follow.By the time the workday was almost over, her phone rang. Sebastian’s name appeared.“I’ve been thinking about Spanish food tonight. Want it?”“That sounds interesting. Where?”“I’ll text you the address. I still have a meeting. Should be done by seven. So let’s meet there.”“Okay.”As soon as the call ended, the location came through. Evelyn stared at the scr

Sebastian sat beside Evelyn on the couch, gently holding her hand while he applied ointment to the small burn on her skin.Evelyn lowered her head, cheeks flushed.“I just wanted to try making breakfast. I saw a video online, it looked easy, so… I tried.”Sebastian lifted a brow, his eyes drifting toward the blackened, unrecognizable thing sitting on the table.“That?” His tone was flat. “What is that supposed to be?”“Egg toast,” Evelyn muttered. Even she didn’t sound convinced.Sebastian exhaled.“Never in my life did I think cooking required… a natural gift.”“It’s not about talent.” He finished applying the ointment and looked at her seriously. “But from now on, don’t cook unless I’m home.”Evelyn stared at him, offended.“Why? If you’re not here, I can practice.”“I’m worried no one will be around to save you when you eventually burn the house down.”She went silent.Considering the flames that had practically reached the ceiling earlier, she couldn’t exactly argue. When he finis

There were already plenty of staff in the house, so Evelyn didn’t think Liam needed to help at all. But Sebastian clearly disagreed.“Even so, it still doesn’t feel right.”Evelyn’s tone shifted. Seeing that, Sebastian grew curious.“Why? Your mom said you and Liam were close.”Her face warmed instantly. She held her breath before replying quietly.“Marriage is between two people. I don’t want a third person living with us.”The moment the words left her mouth, Evelyn dropped her gaze and pretended to focus on the vegetables on her plate. She looked too embarrassed to lift her head.A few seconds passed, silent. When she finally looked up, Sebastian was staring at her. Not blinking. Just staring.“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”“I was just thinking… I can’t promise something like that.”Evelyn blinked, confused.“Huh?”“There will always be a third person in our house.”“Who?” she whispered.Sebastian didn’t answer. His gaze shifted downward, toward her stomach.Evelyn in

Before they separated, Evelyn and Sebastian had agreed on one thing: they needed time to think clearly. To figure out why they actually wanted to stay together and whether the issues between them were serious enough to end the relationship.Evelyn had already done her part. But had Sebastian?“I didn’t forget. I’ll tell you later.”“If you didn’t forget, why not say it now?”He gave her a lazy side-glance. “Or… you could come with me and get married right now, and I’ll tell you in person.”Evelyn let out a small, forced smile.“Then I guess later is fine.”She had already chosen him. Whatever twisted reason he had for insisting on marriage… maybe it didn’t matter anymore.“So about Camilla. Will that make your grandmother change her mind? Will she cancel the merger with the Summers family?”“Even without Camilla Summers, there’s always Lily Summers, or someone else from that family. Business marriages only care about benefits, not the person. You don’t need to stress about my grandmot
