Giselle’s pov.

There are a lot of things I hate; I hate my mother-in-law who only knows how to berate me for been sickly, I hate the maids who gossip hateful things about me and most importantly I hate myself for having a weak heart.  I should be selfish for once and hate my husband but I don’t. I love him.

My husband doesn’t butt in whenever his mother insults me at the dinner table, my sister calls him a mommy boy but I beg to differ. He isn’t a mommy boy, he just doesn’t care.  I thought he cared but for the past one year my husband has been behaving different. My sister told me there’s only one reason why he does that, he was cheating.

“What are you thinking about again,” a voice says calling me out of my reverie. I look up only too see my mother-in-law gazing at me with disdain.

I smiled. I am tempted to yell at her back, after all the reason why they could afford to live like a normal wealthy family was because of me. If I hadn’t marry Cyrus five years ago, their company would have gone bankrupt.

Without my father’s help they wouldn’t be here. My mother-in-law wasn’t appreciative one bit.

“Nothing mother,” I replied. She simply huffed and continued to eat her meal. I glanced to my side only to see Cyrus chatting enthusiastically with Zara.

Zara was everything I wasn’t, she was charming, bold and she even had a brilliant smile. She was athletic unlike me who couldn’t run because I have a fucking hole in my heart.

I bit my lips in anger, he hadn’t even noticed what his mother had said to me, he never notices anything these days.

If not for the fact that Zara was going to be a surrogate mother for my child, I would have suspected that Cyrus was cheating on me with her.

“I don’t really think it’s good if Zara lives with us,” I said as I stared at my food.

“What did you say?” My mother-in-law said as she sneered at me.

“You heard what I said, am I not allowed to have an opinion now?’ I asked as I stared at my mother in law with a blank look.

“Come on babe, we already agreed on this,” Cyrus said with his usually charming smile. I arched an eyebrow, so he heard?

“Someone like you should be grateful that we found a lovely woman to carry your child,” my mother in law yelled, she looked at me like she was gazing at dirt.

I scoffed, fixing my hair I said something I never thought I would  say in a million years. I never knew why I said that, was it because I was fed up of all this?

“Someone like me?” I asked with a scoff, “I should be grateful?”

“Babe, my mother didn’t mean it that way, she’s just joking,” my husband replied with a small smile. I stared at him in disbelief, that man wasn’t even panicking that I might get hurt or something. I held my chest, my heart was beating really fast hence the pain. The doctor once said if I get stressed too much, I might end up dying if possible.

“Joking? I meant it, who does she think she is?” my mother in law said as she turned to her other son, Ivan Lockwood.

I didn’t need to look at Ivan to know that he was staring at me, those eyes of his was intimidating as fuck. Even as his mother yelled unnecessarily, he kept staring at me.

Sighing, I checked the time, it was 9pm.

“if you think i am so useless I don’t mind leaving this house first thing tomorrow morning, in fact I will send a divorce letter to Cyrus when I go to my parents house,” I said with a small smile. At first I thought I could cope, but I just can’t.

A mother-in-law who insults me everyday.

A nonchalant husband

Maids who doesn’t listen to me, it was just too much. I’m just thanking God that Ivan doesn’t live here because if he did, he would be added to the fucking list.

“you are joking right,” Cyrus said as he held my hands, this time he was panicking. I gazed at him with a blank face.

“Do I look like I am,” I said as I stood up.

‘Leave her son, that wench will come back running to us with her two legs like she did three years ago,” my mother-in-law said with a smirk. A sharp pain shot through my chest. I glared at Cyrus who avoided my gaze.

We both knew the reason why I came back was because he begged me for months, he promised me that his mother would change. She did for the first few months then she switched right back.

I scoffed, if he thinks I am coming back then he is so wrong, I know I won’t leave long but I rather spend the rest of my days in my parents house than this psychotic place.

My parents warned me but I didn’t listen, For the first time in my life, I wished I wasn’t so stubborn in my youth, I wished I listened to my parents..

“I think I should go, it’s improper for me to stay here,” Zara said as she stood up.

“Zara no,” Cyrus said in panic. He quickly dragged her back making her hit her leg against the chair he sat.

“My leg,” Zara yelped as she fell. I could see blood coming out of her knee cap. Immediately Cyrus flung the chair and began to tender to her injured leg. My God forsaken mother-in-law stood up and rushed to pat Zara by the back.

“It’s definitely because of that wench, oh my precious lady,” Cyrus’s mom said as she patted Zara by the back.

I expected Cyrus to refute, I hoped he fought for me. If he had I might have stayed but he didn’t. Zara stared at me with a confident smile that no one saw except for me.

At that moment everything dawned on me, Zara was no surrogate mother, she was here with the intent to take my place. The hole in my heart was a ticking time bomb and I was going to die soon.

I chuckled, suddenly my whole life seemed like one big fucking lie.
