Chapter 4

Author: Nameless
Joel raised his glass slightly. "It's a pleasure, Ms. Lennon. I heard your take on Winkler Group. You were spot-on."

"You're too kind, Mr. Crawford."

Then his tone shifted, and a sharper look entered his eyes.

"What interests me more is that biopharmaceutical company. Before Crawford Group acquired it, you'd already bought up most of the shares available on the open market. You beat me to it."

So he'd already looked into me.

"Maybe I just got lucky."

I gave him the same answer as before, one that told him absolutely nothing.

Joel smiled with the unmistakable appreciation of someone who had finally found a worthy opponent.

"Your father certainly hasn't let on how capable you are. Have dinner with me sometime, Ms. Lennon. I think we'll have plenty to talk about."

After that, Joel started asking to meet more often.

We didn't talk about romance. We talked mergers and acquisitions, emerging technology, and where the global economy was headed.

Many of my views caught him off guard, and some clearly impressed him.

A month later, Henry called me into his study again. For once, I couldn't quite read his expression.

"Rhea, Joel just called me."

There was an almost dazed note in his voice.

I looked at him calmly and waited.

"He wants an alliance between our families. He wants to marry you."

The news landed like a bomb.

From that moment on, my place in the Sullivan family was untouchable.

Around the same time, the huge returns from my investments started rolling in, doubling the Sullivan family's assets.

Before long, my 20th birthday came around.

The Sullivans and Crawfords decided to throw a lavish joint celebration for my birthday and my engagement to Joel.

I stood in front of the mirror in a couture gown worth a fortune and studied my reflection.

In my first life, this birthday party had been the beginning of my downfall. Now I was about to live through it again, but this time, everything was different.

Crystal chandeliers flooded the ballroom of Delston's most prestigious hotel with light, making it bright as day.

I stood beneath the spotlights with my arm linked through Joel's as all of Delston high society watched us.

The emcee played up the union between the Sullivan and Crawford families as the social event of the century.

"Now, let's give our warmest applause to tonight's brightest star, Rhea Lennon, and wish her a very happy 20th birthday! And let's also celebrate her engagement to Joel Crawford!"

Applause thundered through the ballroom.

I caught sight of Henry and Hannah below the stage, looking prouder and more satisfied than I had ever seen them.

Joel leaned toward me and murmured, "Ready, partner?"

I smiled and was about to nod when comments suddenly began piling up in front of me.

"Here we go! The classic long-lost-daughter showdown is about to start!"

"What a throwback! I've been waiting for this scene!"

"Come on! Let's see the fake heiress get absolutely destroyed this time!"

The comments were still piling up when a deafening bang cut through the ballroom. The heavy double doors flew open, and the music and applause stopped at once.

Everyone turned toward the entrance in shock.

Alex burst in, supporting a pale, frail-looking woman. He wore the same self-righteous expression I remembered all too well.

Her dress had faded from too many washes, making her look painfully out of place among the designer gowns and tailored suits filling the ballroom.

It was Olivia.

She had arrived right on cue, ready to follow the same script that had destroyed me in my first life.

Dead silence fell over the ballroom.

Olivia pulled away from Alex and stumbled toward the head table.

"Mom! Dad!"

She was sobbing so hard that her voice came out raw with anguish.

The look on Hannah's face changed instantly.

Henry frowned, his gaze sharpening.

Olivia seemed oblivious to everyone around her. A few steps away from Henry and Hannah, she dropped to her knees and looked up through streaming tears.

"Mom, Dad! I'm your real daughter!"

Her anguished cry rang through the silent ballroom, stunning everyone.

"Rhea stole my pendant, the proof that I was your daughter! She took my place and stole the life that should have been mine!"

Joel's bodyguards immediately stepped forward to drag Alex away."Wait."I raised a hand, stopping them.Alex stared at me, his eyes filled with jealousy, regret, and utter bewilderment. When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse, as though it took everything he had to force the words out."Why? Rhea, why has fate been so unfair to me? What did I do wrong?""Here we go again. He's blaming it all on fate." "What did you do wrong? Seriously? You still have to ask?""Rhea, don't bother with him. Just let the bodyguards drag him out!"I looked at him with the same calm indifference I'd give a complete stranger.I gave a quiet laugh. "Fate? That's where you went wrong, Alex. Even now, you still think fate is what decides everything."He stared at me, clearly caught off guard.I took a step closer, making sure he heard every word."You didn't lose because of fate. You lost because you were stupid and shortsighted. You made three mistakes."First, you overestimated what blood m

Joel studied me. There was no doubt in his eyes, only curiosity. After a brief silence, he tapped the table despite the pressure from everyone around him. "We'll go with Ms. Lennon's recommendation."He never asked how I knew. He simply trusted my instincts, then moved quickly and decisively to make my predictions pay off.Three months later, the government announced a major initiative supporting the AI industry. Nexora AI became an investor favorite overnight, and its valuation jumped 50-fold.That one investment put Avelis Capital on the map. After that, I kept pointing out overlooked opportunities that would later become enormously valuable. There was a mobile game that became a cultural phenomenon, a low-budget sci-fi movie that turned into a surprise box-office hit, and even Bitcoin, which I bought while most people still dismissed it as a scam. Before long, I was being called the Market Oracle for my uncanny ability to spot the next big thing. Joel, meanwhile, became known

Furious, Sally tracked Alex and Olivia down to the basement they were living in."Live update! Sally just threw a stack of printed chat logs in Olivia's face!""Olivia went white. Turns out Alex used the exact same routine on Sally. Even that 'you're such an angel' line was copied and pasted!""Alex has nothing to say for himself. Sally is ripping into him for mooching off women. Even the sneakers he wore were bought with money he conned out of women!"The basement erupted into a screaming match.Olivia finally snapped out of the fantasy that everything she'd sacrificed had been for love. She looked at Alex, his face twisted with rage as one scandal after another closed in on him, then at the disgusting messages in front of her. Whatever love or trust she still had in him disappeared in an instant.Sobbing and screaming, Olivia dug out what little savings she had left and threw the money straight in Alex's face. Then she clutched her stomach and ran out of the basement without

Then the scene itself seemed to come to life before my eyes.Olivia sat in a dark, damp basement, clutching her stomach as she cried. "Alex, I'm so hungry. We haven't eaten all day."Alex kicked over a stool beside him and shouted, his face twisted with rage."Is crying all you ever do? We wouldn't be in this mess if you weren't so useless! If you were worth anything, would your own parents have treated you like that at the party? You're worthless!"Every sweet thing he'd once said to her had turned vicious under the pressure of real life.I watched their ugly fight play out through the comments, and my smile slowly widened. But this still wasn't enough. Pushing them this far was only the beginning.Day after day, the comments showed me their endless fights and how far they'd fallen. I felt no satisfaction, only a cold sense of calm.I knew Alex was ambitious to his core. Give him even the slightest chance to recover, and he'd bide his time until he found another chance to stri

"What the hell? This isn't how this is supposed to go! They're just throwing Olivia out? Aren't they supposed to do a DNA test first?""Henry is ruthless! Isn't he supposed to be the ultimate doting dad?""You guys are missing the point. One daughter can marry Joel Crawford and bring the family tens of billions in investment. The other is pregnant, crying, and causing trouble. Which one would you choose? This isn't about family. It's about value."I read the last comment and smiled to myself.Exactly. When one choice offered far more value than the other, blood ties meant nothing. The ballroom doors closed again, shutting out the last of Olivia's screams and curses.A moment later, the music started up again as though the whole ugly scene had been nothing more than a minor interruption. The staff swiftly and quietly cleared away the mess by the doors. The guests seemed to share an unspoken understanding as they picked up their drinks and went back to chatting and laughing. But

Olivia's accusation sent shock waves through the ballroom.Every eye turned to me, filled with shock, suspicion, contempt, and barely disguised excitement.Under all that scrutiny, I remained perfectly calm. I even gave the champagne in my glass a gentle swirl and watched the bubbles rise."Why isn't Rhea freaking out? Shouldn't she be scrambling to defend herself?""She's about to have her reputation completely ruined, and she's still smiling?""Just wait. Once Henry and Hannah realize what's going on, she won't be smiling anymore."The comments kept piling up in front of me, but I already knew they weren't going to get the scene they were waiting for.In my first life, Henry and Hannah had reacted to the same accusation with shock and doubt. The way they looked at me had changed instantly, their trust replaced by suspicion. Not this time.Henry looked furious. He didn't look at me, and he barely spared Olivia a glance.Instead, he turned toward the entrance and barked, "W
