Penulis: Great Talent from South Capital
At the far end of the hospital corridor, the doctor who had declared that I was infertile not long ago said with a conflicted look on his face, “Poor thing. She still thinks she’s pregnant. I’ve prescribed her something. The nausea is only a side effect of it.”

Johnson raised one of his eyebrows. “Then give her something with the least side effects. I don’t want anything harmful to happen to her health. Ella might still need her someday.”

“Aren’t you worried that she’ll hate you if she learns the truth someday? She has always wanted to have a child with you, yet she doesn’t even know that she’ll never be able to become a mother in this life.”

The doctor’s voice took on a note of sympathy.

“If she hates me, there’s nothing I can do about it. I simply can’t bear to see Ella suffer.”

Johnson’s tone grew impatient. “As for her, she has already gotten the title of Mrs. Stewart. Isn’t that enough?”

I froze at the corner of the hallway. My body trembled uncontrollably.

“Already earned the title as Mrs. Stewart, huh? So that’s what he thinks about me.”

Everything I had earned had not been given out of love at all. It had been paid for with one of my kidneys.

All the strength drained from my body at once, and I collapsed to the floor.

I fell into a miserable heap. Pain spread through my body. I did not even have the strength to get back up.

When Johnson saw me, he quickly strode over and helped me to my feet. He rested his profound gaze on me and asked, “How did you fall? When did you get here?”

I clenched my fists tightly inside my sleeves. I knew that tearing things up at that moment would not do me any good. I obediently leaned into his arms like I always did. “I just got here. My heels were too high. I twisted my ankle.”

The tension in his face finally eased. He scooped me up and headed out. He said in a low voice, “You’re not allowed to wear heels this high anymore.”

I looked at the face I had once been so captivated by, yet an endless chill spread through my heart.

When had he asked the doctor to take away one of my kidneys?

Did they do it when I had my appendectomy two years ago?

At that time, I had only felt slightly unwell. Yet, the doctor diagnosed it as appendicitis and said that I needed immediate surgery.

Johnson had been so nervous that he admitted me to the VIP wing and provided a top-tier medical team to perform my surgery.

At that time, I had thought he loved me so deeply that he could not bear the slightest risk to my well-being.

Looking back, I realized I had only been a tender lamb he kept under careful watch. All the care he showed me had simply been to prepare me for the day he would take what he needed and offer it to Ella.

During dinner, Johnson insisted that I finish a small bowl of pasta.

He looked at me gently while holding the fork to feed me. “If you don’t eat well, how would your body ever get better?”

I thought to myself. “If I don’t get better, I won’t be able to provide healthy organs to Ella. That’s the real concern, right?”

While looking at his hypocritical, gentle face, another wave of nausea rose in my chest.

I charged into the bathroom and locked the door. I ignored his concerns and vomited everything I had just eaten.

Just then, the phone inside my pocket vibrated.

“Have you really decided to leave?”

I held my phone. I inevitably recalled Johnson’s cold tone.

“Yes. The sooner, the better.”

It did not take long before Johnson had his servant bring him the key and unlock the door. He frowned as he stared at me. “Did you throw up again? Stop taking the previous medicine. Switch to the new one.”

I clutched the corner of the blanket and said coldly, “Regardless of whether she lives or dies, it has nothing to do with me. I don’t want to be tied up in any of her consequences. Whatever happens between you two, leave me out of it.”He gave me the peeled apple. “Are you afraid of me? Do you think I’m cruel? I just don’t want them to bother you again once I’m gone.”I had no intention of accepting his “kind” offer. “Thank you. But I don’t need you to go to extremes for me. I only want you to sign the divorce papers, then we can go our separate ways.”He sneered, then took a bite of the apple. His eyes flickered with emotions I could not read. His gaze was intense. He stared at me with his bloodshot eyes and asked, “If I accept the consequences, go to prison, and make things right, could we start over?”“No.”I looked at him calmly without a trace of hatred. I said flatly, “Sometimes, I reminisce about the time you had pretended to love me over the past three years. They gave me

Johnson lost his temper again. He forbade anyone from saying anything that even hinted at death. It was as though avoiding the word would somehow stop me from dying.Ella, on the other hand, looked delighted. “We’ll let her rest on the bed for a few more days. If her key indicators aren’t improving, she’ll only affect me. Johnson, don’t worry. I’ll come out of the surgery just fine.”The unethical doctor who had once operated on me glanced at her, then at me on the sickbed. He wanted to say something, but no words came out of his mouth.Perhaps he, too, pitied me that I was about to be taken piece by piece. After a week, they wheeled me into the operating theater. After the anesthesia went in, I lost consciousness. When I regained a faint trace of consciousness, my hand felt slightly numb. I thought I had already died on the operating table when they took my heart away from me. Why was my mind still aware?I slowly opened my eyes and saw the man who simply refused to leave me al

I somehow heard the faint crack of bones, followed by a heart-wrenching scream.Ella looked shocked. She cradled her chest as she put on a sorrowful expression. “Johnson, what’s wrong with you? She ruined our reputation, aren’t you aware of that? Moreover, I’ve lost my baby because of her. My chest still hurts badly!”A deep chill gathered in Johnson’s gaze as he said flatly, “That kidney and lung were hers to begin with. As for the miscarriage, you brought it on yourself.”Ella seemed completely shaken. She collapsed onto a nearby chair. She grabbed Johnson’s hand and demanded an explanation through tears.“Johnson, did you call me here just to show off how deeply connected the two of you are? Do you have to hurt me like this just because you feel guilty toward her?” While saying this, Ella glared at me as if I were a scheming woman who had stolen her man.The audacity was almost laughable.Johnson’s expression turned cold as he shook off her hand. He studied her for a moment

Someone in the crowd threw a half-finished drink at Ella. The bottle hit her face and splashed her with an unknown yellow liquid.“This is disgusting! I can’t bear to listen to you anymore!”“Did Amber’s life not matter?”More and more bottles and cans came flying in.The reporters scattered and left the scene. Ella and Mary huddled together in a panic. They dodged the rain of objects and scrambled around in a sorry state, like rats fleeing across a street. I was quietly entertained as I watched the whole chaotic scene unfold from the other side of the screen. Ferguson called me. His voice sounded oddly weak. “Is there anything else you want me to do? It’s inclusive in the legal fees. I won’t charge extra.”I thought carefully about what was still unfinished. “Well, after I die, please scatter my ashes in the ocean. Don’t let Johnson keep me tied down. I don’t want to be buried in his family’s cemetery.”There was a brief pause on the other end before he said quietly, “I can’t

“A kidney donor?”…I felt irritated as I listened to the voices outside. I reached for the call button by the bed.The next second, Johnson charged in and cupped my face with his hands. His expression was tense. “You’re finally awake. How do you feel? Do you feel pain anywhere?”I turned my head away and said coldly, “Sign the divorce papers. Just seeing you makes me sick.”Johnson seemed completely unfazed by my cold words. He took my hand. Then, he reached into his bag and took out a ring. He pressed the ring firmly onto my ring finger and said gently, “Silly girl. If you ever need money, you should come to me. Don’t ever sell something this important again, okay?”I fought through the weight in my body and forced myself to sit upright. I could not care less about the IV inserted in my other hand as I yanked off the ring he had shoved onto my finger. I hurled it away.“Johnson, I want a divorce. I want to divorce you. Don’t you get it?”Blood began to creep back into the IV

Half a month later, on a quiet afternoon, I had already settled in a small town by the seaside.I had sold my wedding ring for a substantial amount of money. I filled my days with good food and beautiful scenery.A dull ache would occasionally surface in my body. I had no idea how much time I had left. Hence, I treated each day as if it were my last.I laid back on a beach chair and listened to the steady rhythm of the waves. Over the past 27 years of life, I had never felt this free or at ease.A figure approached me across the sand. It was my divorce lawyer, Ferguson.Rumor had it that God of Fortune was his nickname in the legal world. As long as his clients were able to pay him sufficiently, he would take any case. True enough, he was the only one who dared to take mine.Ferguson gave off an air of flamboyance. His features were almost as exquisite as a woman’s. The top two buttons of his shirt were always undone. This made him look like the kind of slick, unprincipled lawyer
