He smiled weirdly and rested one hand on my shoulder, rubbing it gently.

"Son, I will be back in no time. Just make sure you have your dinner before I return." With this, he brought down his hand and proceeded to the door.

He unlocked it effortlessly, and in a twinkle of an eye, he walked out of the room and was completely out of sight.

My heart raced with confusion as I reminded to what he had just told me and how urgently he had walked out of my chambers. Not forgetting the fact that he also asked me to have my dinner before he returned. What was he up to this time around? How was I even sure he was not on his way to get the elders? But why would he think of going to find the elders at this odd hour of the night? Why was he more troubled about a mate than I was?

Different thoughts kept coming into my mind, with a lot of unanswered questions, and all I could do was wave it all out and hope for the best news when he returned.

I followed his advice and crashed into the dining room, unc

Adolf nodded in agreement, and together we set out into the forest, searching for any sign of Valeria's passage. We combed through the underbrush, calling out her name in hopes that she might hear us and respond. But as the hours passed and the sun dipped lower in the sky, it became increasingly clear that Valeria was nowhere to be found. My heart sank as the realization set in: she was truly gone, and we had no idea where to even begin looking. As dawn broke, my anger boiled within me like a pot ready to overflow. Valeria had just succeeded in fooling us all. I couldn't believe she would be so reckless, so irresponsible. My fists clenched at the thought of her abandoning our plan without a second thought."Adolf," I said, my voice tight with fury. "I can't stay here. I need to go back."Adolf looked at me, concern etched on his face. "Are you sure, my friend? It's not safe to travel alone, especially with Valeria out there somewhere.""I don't care," I snapped. "I need to find her, a

VALERIA'S POVRight after their departure, Sigil turned to me. His eyes beamed with fear.It was obvious that he was frightened by my father's threats. He faced me. "Valeria… we need to talk." My curiosity piqued as those words crept out of his lips."What do we need to talk about? Don't tell me you were moved by all that crap that came out of his lips."My face spelled anger and disappointment. I never saw myself having anything to do with Uncle Rufus, not after I had heard all those rumors about him being against me.No one would also persuade me to do that which I never intended to do. Not even Sigil.I understood he must be troubled by my father's words, but he also had to keep in mind that no matter how threatening his voice was, I would never go against my wish to embark on a mission with Uncle Rufus. He fixed his gaze on my troubled face. "What do you mean? I don't get you." I shot at him."What don't you understand?! Okay, that aside, what do you have in mind concerning the wa

After so much persuasion, I summoned the courage to let the cat out of the bag."My father has made my life a miserable one since I informed him about Uncle Rufus's mischief. He insists that his brother is never known to be as cruel as I classified him.""Oh, I see!..." He folded his arms around his chest and nodded repeatedly."Why does he feel that way though? Does he believe his brother over you, his daughter?""Isn't it obvious? I doubt if he ever listens to me after this. He is bent on trusting his brother against all odds. I'm tired, sincerely tired."I hope Sigil would understand what I meant by that. I needed to be left alone. He was already asking too many questions. He was silent for a while. He finally broke the silence by clearing his throat."I boldly suggest that you leave your father to his fate. He doesn't want to be corrected. He should see things for himself. I suppose that would make him believe you more, trust me on this."He spoke with so much wisdom. This was exa

VALERIA'S POVTo confirm my suspicions, Uncle Rufus suddenly arrived barely an hour after Sigil's departure. He made his way into my father's room. I awaited his next step, and just as I expected, the next place he visited was my room.He stopped by the door and kept knocking endlessly.I ignored him for as long as he kept knocking. Soon, he paused and walked out through the coriander.I perceived he went back to have a word with my father.I heard them conversing in an audible tone as my father accompanied him out of the house."She's probably not around. She must have gone to visit a friend as usual." I was baffled by how quickly he covered up for me even though he knew fully well that I was in my room.Rufus concurred. He gave up waiting and handed an item to my father. The item was wrapped in a brown thick paper. I was watching them quietly through the window.Rufus added when he had accepted the item from him."Give it to her when she returns." He walked out of the packhouse. My

"No, I haven't. I was just planning to, but I decided to come let you know first before summoning up the courage to tell my father about it.You know how obsessed my father is about his brother, Sigil. I doubt if he would ever believe me if I told him his brother is evil."I was surprised Sigil was thinking the same thing as me. I would probably say our minds were working together."He has no choice but to believe you. You are his daughter and he should listen to you. Just give it a try. You just have to explain things to him clearly."I nodded in agreement with the suggestion he just made."I will let him know. The worst he could do is to not believe me, and probably ask me out of his presence."I felt more fulfilled after speaking with Sigil about this.I couldn't imagine what would have become of my mind if I hadn't called him earlier.Speaking with him eased off the tension in me. I was undoubtedly comfortable around him.But this wasn't the case for my father. No matter how accom

VALERIA'S POV"It should be a private discussion and we can't do that standing here." I hoped he would understand what I meant.Sigil nodded gently and took my hands. He led me to where he had parked his car. When we were there, he helped me into the car and drove off.He stopped by a classy restaurant and made an order for us both. While we were still waiting for our orders, he kept staring deeply at me. I felt uncomfortable by his repeated stares."What?" He turned his face away and acted like he was not just staring a minute ago.I clearly understood what he was up to. He found me attractive and as such couldn't get his eyes off me.He had always longed for this moment. No wonder he didn't hesitate when I sought his attention."Here is your order." The waiter walked away after setting the table before us.Sigil gestured to me to have my meal, which I did without mincing words. He joined me shortly when I was halfway done with my meal.I smiled at his thoughtfulness. "Thank you for
