Brewster walked out of the hospital with his head down.

He had walked around the garden, trying to gather his thoughts before meeting Jimmy as he feared worrying the young man.

Jimmy had tried so much for him. He'd picked him up from the Cafe he used to work in, the first place he decided to make some money from after things went down the drain with his family but things weren't looking up at the Cafe either.

He was too young and naive. The boss was too callous, and he would sometimes renege on his payment. The boss believed that Brewster had no one to fight for him, but Jimmy did.

Not only did he fight, but he also took Brewster away, rented a studio apartment for him, and introduced him to the industry. However, the industry was just as bad as the outside world.

Brewster was scammed. Where Jimmy could not see, he was made to sign a document that cut off his survival route. As someone with no backing, he was rendered helpless and made a slave to work his ass off while getting little payment. But that wasn't the end... they wouldn't even give him any resources!

Brewster let out a deep breath, deciding to forget the things that made his heart ache and focus on the bright future that awaited him... he hoped.

"Brother Jimmy!" Brewster called, forcing a cheerful smile on his face.

Jim looked toward him and waved back. He walked to stand before Brewster, "How is your mum?" He sounded worried.

Brewster's eyes dimmed significantly, but he smiled again, "She seems to be getting better." He paused and shrugged, almost nonchalantly. "I just need to make a lot of money now, and she will be fine." He added.

He strode toward the car, leaving Jim behind as his smile faltered and sadness returned to his eyes. He opened the car door and stepped in. Seeing that Jim had entered the car, his sadness disappeared, and a smile returned to his face, "We should return home." He suggested.

Jim nodded. "We should eat something before then. I will stop at the restaurant ahead."

Brewster was about to respond when his phone vibrated in his pocket. He brought it out, and his confusion glinted in his eyes for a few seconds before it receded. His heart raced slightly... 'I think I can start making some money already...' He mumbled to himself as he read the message on his phone's screen.

"Brother Jimmy, please take me to the STAR HOTEL."

Jim raised a brow, "He called?"  His tone was low and sad.

Brewster lowered his eyes, and his mood remained unreadable. "Yes, he did. He wants to see me as fast as possible." He explained.

Jim sighed deeply. He ruffled his hair and cursed under his breath. He started the car and drove off, not saying another word to Brewster. He knew nothing could stop the man from seeing the little guy, and stopping him now wouldn't make things nice for both of them.

Jim drove to the hotel and watched silently as Brewster entered the hotel. He wasn't a fool. He could see how Ace saw Brewster as nothing but a plaything, and he also knew that to someone like Ace, Brewster wasn't worth much.

Ace was dangerous, especially to a young and vulnerable Brewster...

Jim held the steering so tight that his knuckles turned white. He closed his eyes for a while as if deliberating something, and soon enough, he opened his eyes and searched for his phone. He tentatively dialed a number and placed the phone to his ear. "If I do what you asked, will you allocate more resources to Brewster?" His tone was hoarse, but his eyes showed determination.

A masculine laughter rang across the phone, followed by a string of words that only Jim could understand. His jaw clenched, "I will do anything. Did you not target him because of me? I will do whatever you ask. Just make Brewster famous." Jim said with every breath he could muster.

His hands trembled, and the phone nearly fell. His eyes grew red, but his lips slowly curled up, indicating how relieved he felt. "I will meet you at the hotel then." He said, and his hand shook as he ended the call.

He looked toward the STAR HOTEL again and nodded his head. "Don't worry, Brewster. I will protect you from now on." He mumbled under his breath and started the car, leaving his exhaust filling the heavy air.

Brewster entered the suite, and sitting in bed in a bathrobe with a laptop on his lap was Ace. The dim lighting highlighted his handsome features, and his strong biceps were on full display.

Hearing the door open, he raised his eyes slightly and glanced at Brewster.

Brewster breathed hitched. He could feel Ace's terrible mood.

Ace returned his gaze to his laptop, "Wash up." He ordered.

Brewster nodded and slowly dragged his feet to the bathroom. His mind wandered as he opened the shower, letting the water pour over his body while he rubbed it. "I hope... he pays me this time." He silently wished.

Brewster listened to the man speak and tears welled up in his eyes. Mr Ace... was begging him?Ace stepped forward and knelt before Brewster. He really didn't know what to do... "I've broken things up with Ian. I love you, Brewster. I..." He trailed off. What was he supposed to say next?He could only bow his head as he silently wished Brewster would see how sincere his heart was and forgive him for everything. He knew he had really gone too far in the past... He wished he could return to those days and remind himself of now. Maybe things would have been different?Brewster could not say a word. His tears dropped as he watched the man who knelt before him. His fingers flickered. He wanted to hold the man up and hug him back. He wanted to confess his love to the man, but was this really right? After everything the man had

Brewster couldn't believe his ears. He staggered toward the door and opened it wide to see his parents standing at the entrance. The two stared at each other with warm smiles on their faces and conversed happily.Brewster pinched his neck harshly, trying to see if this was one of his numerous dreams about his parents, but only the pain was felt. The scene remained the same. Brewster opened his mouth to talk, but only a whimper escaped his lips as tears rolled down his face. He opened his arms and hugged the couple outside the door. The two were slightly surprised at the sudden weight, but how could they not know it was their son? They opened their arms and hugged him tightly, steadying him and protecting him from falling back. Jim watched the family of three for a while, and he nodded with red eyes. He was really happy for Brewster. At least, the departure of Ace wouldn't sadden him too much, right? He suddenly felt the urge to call his lover, too...Brewster and his family hug

  • ASHES OF INNOCENCE   CHAPTER 50: FAMILY

Brewster stayed in the hospital for two weeks. Jim came over several times to convince him to return to the company, but after hearing the little man's explanation, Jim no longer had a word to say. It was his biggest wish for Brewster to escape Ace's clutch, and if this was the only way, then he would support it. "I'm also planning to resign." He told Brewster. Brewster raised a brow, shocked at his brother Jimmy's words. "Didn't you tell me your lover is the chairman of our industry? Why do you want to resign?" He couldn't understand. Jim smiled and shook his head. "If it isn't you, then I don't want to be anyone's agent, Brewster. Now that you no longer want to return, I also don't want to return." He said. "We will work together and pay back all the money you owed Mr Ace. After that, we can pursue your singing talent. Or even better, we can start pursuing your singing talent now." Though he didn't have much trust in Brewster's singing talent, he was still very interested in he

Brewster, who hadn't seen his mother in more than four months, had to compose himself as he entered his mother's ward. But to his surprise, his mother was no longer there. His heart trembled as he rushed out of the room and made his way to the doctor's office. He knocked on the door and was soon permitted to step in. "Brewster," the doctor called kindly when he saw Brewster. Brewster panted as he held the door. "Doctor, where's my mum?" He asked, breathing hard. The doctor pushed up his glasses and stood up. He poured a cup of water, which he handed over to Brewster. "Your mother is fine. She went out with her doctor for a seminar." He explained. Brewster took a step back in shock. His mother went to a seminar? A seminar?"How could..." "The surgery has been done, and it was successful." The doctor interrupted. Brewster's eyes widened. His lips parted into a round O. The doctor saw his expression and chuckled. "Mr Ace invited a lot of specialists to take care of your mother

  • ASHES OF INNOCENCE   CHAPTER 48: BREAK UP

"What did you say?" Brewster asked in a low voice. He couldn't believe his ears, and for some reason, he didn't want to believe it. His heart raced really fast. It was so fast that it ached terribly, and he felt like screaming his lungs out. Ace's expression was grave as he looked at the young man in front of him. His chest felt uncomfortable for some reason. Ace pinched his brows, feeling conflicted within him, which confused him a lot. But he still opened his mouth to repeat his words. "I've found Ian." He mumbled in a low voice. Honestly, he had no idea why he was telling the little star this. He had even lesser idea why he felt so terrible within him. Ian had been the person he'd been searching for for a few years, and this had even caused him countless sleepless nights, giving him both headaches and heartaches. So, why wasn't he feeling the expected happiness when he found the young man again? He was supposed to stay with Ian in the hospital today as the man had an accide

  • ASHES OF INNOCENCE   CHAPTER 47: CLARITY

Jim's lips twitched. With the smile on Brewster's face, he could tell the young man had already done something toward the direction of being a singer even before he asked any questions. He helplessly nodded his head. Though, he had no idea if Brewster truly had a talent for singing or not. Anyway, Brewster was still so young, and it was only right for him to have a bit of fun. Especially when he wasn't yet popular. Everything he did before fame could be swept under the rug when he became popular. Jim made a decision. Brewster was overjoyed. He cheered in the car, and subsequently, the remaining distance to the castle was breached. Jim and Brewster were driven to the main castle where Brewster's things were packed with the help of the guards. Jim escorted Brewster into his room, but his expression showed his urgency as he looked around with no intention of sitting. "What's it, brother Jimmy?" Brewster asked, feeling curious about what made Jim look so impatient. Jim rubbed hi
