Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
The familiar sound of the courtroom bell rang.

"The trial is about to begin. Silence in the courtroom."

The presiding judge struck the gavel, swept a cold gaze over the room, and began reading out the procedure for the trial.

"The plaintiff is Joseph Miller. The defendant is Quin Olson. The charge is ingratitude. For this trial, whoever makes the claim must provide the evidence. Next, four segments of the plaintiff, Joseph Miller's memories, will be shown publicly. The verdict will be decided by a public vote. No party is allowed to withdraw during the trial. Anyone who does will be executed on the spot."

Following the judge's announcement that the court was now in session, the courtroom began to broadcast the first segment of Joseph's memories.

Joseph and I had started a company together.

Back then, the company was just getting off the ground. The two of us were so busy every day that we hardly had time to care for our daughter. Both of our parents happened to be back in their hometowns, too.

I was worried about leaving my daughter at home alone. So, I shoved her into Helly's arms and said, "Aren't you always acting like a saint and looking after my husband? Well, you can take care of my daughter, too. Oh, she can't have any of that cheap formula. Make sure you buy the one that costs one hundred a can."

Helly looked at me, wanting to speak. But in the end, she just nodded tearfully. Meanwhile, I stretched out on the couch, air-conditioning blasting and laughing out loud as I watched the television.

"Helly, go cut me some fruit!"

"Helly, I only eat grapes if they're peeled! Go peel them!"

"Helly! What did you just cook? Redo it!"

I called for Helly nearly every minute, and I would have her redo anything I wasn't satisfied with.

At home, I had Helly. At the office, I had Joseph. I completely stopped caring about anything.

The next day, I texted Joseph, then left for a beach vacation without a second thought.

At the company, Joseph was so busy he barely slept for days.

At home, our daughter cried every day. Helly even had to keep an eye on her while using the bathroom.

One day, while rushing to make some milk using the formula, Helly accidentally poured boiling water over her own hand. Finally, she broke down crying and begged, "Quin! Please come home and check on the baby already! I have too much on my plate! Just come home for a few days. Once I recover, I'll take care of her again, okay?"

I simply sneered, "You moron. If you can't manage it, just hire a nanny. You get paid, don't you? Oh, and by the way, the company has some capital issues, and Joseph was so worried he couldn't sleep."

The moment Helly transferred her salary to me, I ordered an extravagant seafood platter.

Meanwhile, the livestream filled up with a flood of viewers.

[Goodness. What a nice woman. She's not even with her ex-husband anymore, but she's still helping him look after his kid. I'm about to cry here.]

[Wow, does Quin even have a conscience?]

[Seriously, what's wrong with her? How can she treat someone who's helping her out of the kindness of her heart like a maid?]

[I'm going to keep watching. Quin doesn't look like someone so wicked. Maybe there's something more to this story, right?]

-

"Order in the court!" The judge's voice rang out. "Now, I will present the second segment of the plaintiff, Joseph's memories."

The scene changed.

I stomped down on Joseph's hand, crushing it beneath my heel. Joseph screamed in agony, clutching his hand and rolling on the floor in pain. But could this even compare to all the humiliation I suffered in my past life?I laughed without restraint as I watched everything unfold. "Joseph, Helly, this is exactly what you both deserve."With those words, I turned to the judge and bowed deeply. The judge's solemn voice rang out again."According to the verdict, the defendant Quin is not guilty. However, due to the severity of this case, special measures will be taken. The sentence. Both Joseph and his lover Helly will be executed immediately. It took a long while before the crowd erupted into a cacophony of voices. The livestream comments were coming so fast that you couldn't even see the background anymore.[Holy crap! This has completely shattered everything I thought I knew. How can anyone be so shameless?!][Damn! These two are unbelievable. After doing all those disgusting things, they wanted the judge to sentence Quin?][People like them deserve to die quickly. Stop with that act. Do they think they're innocent?][Seriously, what a bunch of scumbags! The defendant is too softhearted. If it were me, I would have beaten them up so badly that no one could recognize them!][Hurry up and announce the verdict, judge! We want to watch you execute those two with your own hands!]-Joseph and Helly were in a full panic now.Helly completely broke down, screaming, "I didn't do it! How could you know? After the judge's declaration earlier, Joseph and Helly didn't dare to question the validity of the memories. Instead, they turned on each other, each trying to shirk responsibility."You have to believe me, Quin! This was never what I wanted! I never meant to hurt you! It's true!" Joseph was panicking now. He abruptly pointed at Helly and shouted, "It was her! It was all her idea! I just got swept up in the moment!"Helly stared at Joseph, who was in front of her in disbelief. She couldn't understand how the man who had held her and promised her eternal love just the day before could turn on her so quickly. She glared at Joseph. "You're full of crap, Joseph! Are you seriously going to stand there and say none of this was your idea? Go ahead, I dare you to repeat that in front of the judge!"Joseph didn't dare to meet the judge's eyes. The segment shifted."We now disclose the defendant, Quin Olson's final memory segment."In the bedroom.I stepped out of the bathroom, my hair s

As soon as the segment finished playing, the comment section exploded.[Holy cow! I can't believe Helly had this side to her!][So, she really was a homewrecker! I'm totally on the defendant's side now! I've never hated homewreckers more! Both the plaintiff and his mistress can go to hell!][Why is everyone just blaming the woman? The man is just as bad, if you ask me! He spent the money that was meant to save his mother-in-law on his mistress! If any of you had to deal with a guy like that, would you be able to even talk with them in peace?][I mean, yeah, but Helly did save Quin's life, didn't she?][True, Helly isn't a saint, but Quin isn't exactly a good person, either…]-Helly started to panic and shot me a glare. "It's all lies! None of this is true! Quin, I can't believe you would slander me right here in court!"Joseph looked at me, full of disapproval in his eyes. "Quin, you're actually lying to the judge just to win? Do you even realize where you are right now?"I c

An apartment building was caught on fire.My mother was trapped inside for hours. She was rushed to the hospital with severe burns covering most of her body, and she was on her last breath. The astronomical hospital bills and surgery costs wiped out everything I had.I knelt on the floor, tears rolling down my cheeks. "Please, Joseph, I'm begging you. I really don't have enough money for my mom's treatment. Can you try asking our friends again? See if anyone can lend us more? I'll pay you back for whatever you borrowed, okay? Help me. Do it for the sake of our marriage."Joseph shoved me away, his face full of impatience. "How many times do I have to tell you? I've borrowed from everyone I can. Don't push me. If you keep this up, we'll get a divorce."At that time, Joseph and I hadn't started our company yet. I knew he wasn't from a rich family, so I didn't make things any harder for him.For half a month, I basically lived at the hospital, caring for my mom around the clock. The

I had just stepped out of the shower when Joseph grabbed me in a tight embrace. He looked exhausted, his spirits completely drained. He stared at me for a long time before finally speaking hesitantly, "Honey, it's Helly… She's sick. She has kidney failure and needs a transplant. And right now… only you can help her. Can you help her, for the sake of her saving you before this?"Joseph hadn't even finished, and I had already exploded in fury. "You want me to donate a kidney to your mistress? In your dreams!"Joseph looked like he was going to have a breakdown. "I'm begging you, please help Helly. She's in the final stage of kidney failure… If she can't get a matching kidney soon, she'll die!""Oh, you want me to give her a kidney?" I chuckled faintly as I seemed to have thought of something. "Fine. Bring that little homewrecker over and have her wash my feet! When you two manage to satisfy me, maybe I'll consider the transplant. How about that?"Joseph clenched his fists tightly at
