Through the half-opened car window, Ella leaned out and called back to me.

“Sorry, Celine, my bad. I just wanted to hit the bar and relax. But don’t worry. I’ll have Alpha Leon bring you something to eat when we get back!”

Before I could respond, Alpha Leon smiled and ruffled her hair.

“You little glutton. Just because you love food doesn’t mean everyone else does.

“Don’t mind her. She’ll eat and then start claiming she’s acting up from her wolfsbane poisoning again. I don’t have time for that kind of act.”

So it wasn’t that he hadn’t noticed how unwell I looked. He just thought I was faking it out of jealousy.

In the past, I would’ve already broken down, crying and arguing, trying to explain.

However, this time, I said nothing and only nodded.

“Alright. Have fun.”

Leon froze for a moment, then smirked again.

“Good. As long as you don’t start anything.”

The car drove off.

Before leaving, Leon had lowered all the windows, afraid Ella would feel stuffy.

I got carsick easily, and somehow it was always especially worse in Leon’s car. He never lowered the window for me, though.

“Carsick? Sounds fake. Can you stop being so delicate?”

I understood now.

I took off the ring on my ring finger and tossed it into the passing garbage truck.

Early the next morning, I went to the pack to hand over my resignation.

Ever since Leon took over from the previous Alpha, I had been his secretary.

“You’re resigning? Does Alpha Leon know?” the Beta asked in shock.

“He’ll know when the new secretary arrives.”

With that, I left without looking back.

When I got home, I ran into Leon. He was carrying the fresh scent of my body wash.

He adjusted his wrist, then looked down at me.

“Something urgent came up last night, so I didn't return for fear of interrupting your sleep.”

This was the first time in five years he had explained himself to me.

I nodded, saying nothing.

“Where did you go this morning?” he asked.

I looked at him.

After every banquet, I would wake before dawn and make warm meat soup for him.

It made sense why he would ask, since he had come back this morning and not seen anything.

“I went to deal with some matters.”

I turned to leave, but Leon, who had been frowning, suddenly grabbed my wrist, his face darkening.

“Celine, that’s enough.

“It’s just a date change. It’s not like I’m not going to mark you, so it’s pointless for you to keep this up.”

However, I wasn’t making a scene, and I truly didn’t plan to let him mark me anymore.

I thought it would be better to make things clear, and was just about to speak when a soft, complaining voice sounded.

“Alpha Leon! This is all your fault!

“The thing you bought me this morning is the wrong size!

“This style doesn’t fit me at all! You really don’t understand me, Alpha Leon!”

Ella walked out wearing Leon’s shirt, only two buttons loosely fastened, her collarbone exposed. She went straight to him, hooked her arm through his, and swayed lightly.

Leon’s frown instantly smoothed out. His voice turned gentle, a tone I had never heard from him before.

“Why didn’t you sleep a little longer? I’ll get you the right size next time.”

He even reached out to fix her slightly messy hair, the motion natural and familiar. It was as if they were the ones who had spent five years together.

I watched them, my heart tightening as if gripped by something unseen.

Yet the sharp pain from before was gone. Only a numb emptiness remained.

It was then that Ella noticed me. A hint of smugness flashed in her eyes before she feigned surprise.

“Oh, Celine, you’re here too? Sorry, I thought it was just the two of us at Leon’s place.”

She stressed “just the two of us”, as if claiming something.

Leon didn’t deny it. He only glanced at me with impatience, like I had interrupted them.

I pulled my hand from his grip, my fingertips cold.

“I just came to get something. I’ll be leaving soon,” I said calmly, without a ripple.

In front of Leon, I linked my hand with Jace’s and stood on the tips of my toes to lightly touch his cheek. The light in Leon’s eyes dimmed, but he still chose to deceive himself.“It’s nothing, Celine. I know you’re just teasing me.”He clutched the bouquet of roses tightly, letting the thorns pierce his palms. The blood-stained petals trembled in his hands. It was a shocking sight, but it didn’t stir even a flicker of feeling in me.I knew someone, some moments, once missed, could never be reclaimed.Jace sensed the tension in my grip and held my hand tighter. His warmth and steadiness gave me courage.I lifted my gaze to meet Leon’s desperate eyes, calm yet distant.“No, Celine. I will show you my sincerity. I will atone!”Blood trickled from his palms, but still I didn’t respond, even as his friends pulled him away.“Sorry, just used you as a shield for a moment,” I apologized to Jace.He smiled softly. “Celine, for you, I’d never mind. I actually hope… that what just h

Leon lost the match, but the fallout kept spreading. The afternoon duel wasn’t an official trial, so many spectators livestreamed or uploaded clips.Soon, the entire kingdom saw Leon’s defeat. The war-god image he had maintained for years shattered overnight. Combined with the recent scandal, his and the pack's reputation fell to rock bottom. Many allied packs publicly cut ties.In contrast, Jace became the kingdom’s rising Alpha. As his secretary, I was also approached by many packs seeking cooperation.Looking at the news, I didn’t feel satisfaction, only a quiet sense of irony. That night, when I returned to my apartment, I saw Leon downstairs, crouched by the bushes, drunk. When he saw me, he stood and tried to approach.I instinctively stepped back.Leon froze, then looked up at me, eyes filled with sorrow.“Even you look down on me now, don’t you?”“No. I just don’t want anything to do with you anymore.”After saying that, I tried to walk past him. However, he grabb

Every once in a while, the kingdom held combat trials, and every pack had to participate. That day, after the final round ended, I stood at the side of the stage, applauding Jace and the warriors.Onstage, Jace suddenly looked at me. Then he walked toward me, steady and firm.My heartbeat quickened. Before I could figure out what he was doing, he took my hand and led me to the center of the arena. For the first time, because of Jace, I stood on a stage I had longed for five years, receiving thanks. The lights shone down on us, and the audience applauded. At last, I experienced the honor that should have been mine.I mouthed a silent “thank you” to Jace.He only smiled. “You deserve this.”My eyes warmed. As I lowered my gaze to hide it, I caught sight of Leon in the front row with bloodshot eyes, staring at us.The next second, he rushed onto the stage.“Ha. Alpha Jace sure knows how to put on a show. With all this display, you’d think he was that impressive!“If you’re rea

When he finally reached me using a friend’s phone, his voice was clearly tired.“Celine, you win.“Because of the scandal you exposed, Ella is completely ruined, and the pack’s development has been affected.“Come back and hold a press conference with me. Then I’ll mark you immediately.“That should satisfy you, right?”For a moment, I wondered if something was wrong with Leon’s brain. How else could he still not understand?I almost laughed from anger.“Leon, we're done.“Just assume I did all of it. We’re over. Stop bothering me!”Jace was beside me. Seeing my expression, he asked with concern. His voice carried through the call, and Leon’s tone instantly turned furious.“Who are you with right now?!“Why is there another wolf’s voice? Is that why you betrayed me?!”I didn’t bother saying another word and hung up.Former colleagues occasionally sent me updates.Leon didn’t even look at the new secretary before firing her.Ella, on the other hand, was suspended by the

On the ship, I had the most peaceful sleep I’d ever had. When I arrived at the Northern port, the pack that hired me received me with the highest level of hospitality.“Welcome, Miss Celine!“A talent like you joining us is truly our honor!”Elder Ben spared no praise, and the pack members looked at me with shining eyes. This was something I had never experienced before.Whenever anyone in the pack tried to praise me, Leon would darken his expression without exception. No one wanted to offend him, and I didn’t want to upset him either.Over time, I became invisible in the pack, someone who only drew attention when my name was mentioned alongside Leon’s.Ben introduced me to the Alpha I would be working for.The werewolf extended his hand politely. His face looked somewhat familiar.“Miss Celine, I’m Alpha Jace. I look forward to working with you.”Then I remembered. Many years ago, in the match Leon won as champion, Jace had been the runner-up.Over the years, Jace had tra

I was halfway through packing when Leon came back.He tossed a half-full brown bottle at me.“Got you some medicine.”I picked it up. I had seen this bottle before. In Ella’s post, Leon had used it to treat her wound. However, I was allergic to this medicine. When Leon was eighteen, his talent already set him apart. The other werewolves in the pack grew displeased with him and deliberately had rogues to cripple his hands.Back then, I had thrown myself in front of him without a second thought.I was only lightly injured, but a servant used this exact medicine to disinfect my wound.I went into an anaphylactic shock right then and was rushed to the treatment room, only waking up after nearly a full day.The Beta told me later that Leon had spent however long I was there, crying. After that, he flew into a rage. He threw out every bottle of this medicine in the pack and forbade it from ever appearing again. Now, he was the one who broke that rule.I lowered my gaze and tos
