Chapter 8

作者: Perfect Timing
Matt accused me of hiring an actress who looked strikingly similar to my mother and bringing her here on purpose to deceive the police.

He was so agitated that the officers had no choice but to call medical staff to administer a sedative.

Worried that Mom would be upset, I quickly took her away to the office next door to give my statement.

After learning everything that had happened to me, Mom held me and cried until her eyes were swollen red.

Matt still refused to believe it. But when the paternity test results came out, he completely lost his mind.

He laughed hysterically, shouting that he wanted to kill me, kill my mother.

He made a huge scene, demanding to see me. Since he couldn't see me, he screamed nonstop.

The police had no choice but to contact me.

When I arrived, Matt looked like he wanted to strangle me to death.

Unfortunately, he was strapped to a chair. His eyes were bloodshot as he roared, "Lily!! I never imagined you could be this heartless! You actually sent my

Hearing Wendy say that, Matt immediately agreed. After giving his testimony, he even tried to comfort her."Wendy, wait for me. I'll be out very soon. Once the paternity test is done, it'll prove that wasn't my mother. Then I'll take you to meet my mom."Wendy nodded again and again.Even now, Matt still believed everything was my fault. He specifically asked the police to let him call me, since I was directly involved. But he couldn't reach me. So Matt called his assistant and asked him to help. The assistant said anxiously, "Sir, ever since the murder allegations came out, the company has been hit with a lot of problems. Our company's stock is plummeting. There are vulnerabilities everywhere, and the online backlash keeps growing. I've called you several times and couldn't get through. You need to show up!"Matt clenched his teeth hard and told him to first find my whereabouts and to let the assistant temporarily handle the company. While waiting for the paternity test, Matt

Matt gasped. When he saw the face, his brows knitted even tighter."What happened to her face?"The nurse answered honestly, "When Wendy was practicing, she wanted to examine the facial capillaries, so she made an incision to take a look. She's still improving on her skill, and during suturing, the facial stitching didn't turn out very well."Hearing this, Matt gave a faint nod, still unwilling to believe that this was his mother's body. After hurriedly signing the paperwork, he planned to bury the body somewhere casually and be done with it.Just then, Wendy came looking for him. When he heard the news, he walked over quickly. The moment she saw Matt, she threw herself into his arms. The warmth between them made others envious."So jealous of Dr. Cooper.""Tell me about it. Being liked by someone so powerful—she'll never have to worry for the rest of her life."Hearing these comments, Wendy grew even more smug, lifting her chin and smiling as she showed off.At that moment

Matt hung up the phone without a second thought, then shot me a vicious glare."Lily, why hasn't your mom's body been claimed yet? It's so annoying—they're calling my phone about it. Hurry up and go take care of it."I looked down at the divorce certificate in my hand and felt an inexplicable lightness spread through my body.I ignored Matt, turned around with the divorce certificate, and walked away. The lawyer had said that I no longer had any relationship with Matt and didn't need to answer any pointless questions.I don't know how to drive. I'd come on a shared electric bike and planned to ride it back. When I turned my head, I saw the lawyer standing not far away, waiting for me. He walked over, his eyes slightly curved as he smiled. "Looks like everything went smoothly."I nodded. "Thank you!"I was genuinely grateful for his help. This lawyer seemed to be a friend of the original owner of this body. There was a trace of sorrow in the way he looked at me.He smiled gent

Thinking of what Grandma always said—that once a woman marries, she should put her husband's family first—I added, "I'm doing this for your own good. If something happens to you, at least you'll still have half your assets. Otherwise, you might end up with nothing."He clenched his teeth and shouted that I was cursing him.Wendy stepped in, looking aggrieved."Matt, this is all my fault. I was too foolish and messed up during practice. Lily must be blaming me; that's why she wants to divorce you."She sobbed as she spoke, then said she would give her life to repay my mother. Crying, she even made as if to rush toward the window.Matt grabbed her and coaxed her gently. "Wendy, don't do this. It hurts me to see you like this."As he comforted her, Wendy fainted. His gaze toward me grew even more hateful as he swept her up into his arms. Then he barked at me viciously, "There's no way I'm giving you half. If you want compensation, I can give you a little—some assets. But anything r

Matt didn't give me a chance to refuse before hanging up again.I blinked. Only then did I realize I'd forgotten to start the recording. But it was just one or two sentences—probably not important.I was only calling my mother-in-law to meet with her son. That should be fine, right?I called my mother-in-law.By the time she arrived, I headed over as well. When I got there and went to look for her, I was told she'd already been sent into the operating room.I was surprised. That fast?Had Matt drugged her and sent her in? Didn't he know that was his own mother?I went to the operating room entrance and happened to see Matt. He was holding Wendy's hand, chatting and laughing as they walked over.I stepped forward to remind him. "Matt, do you even know who was sent into surgery?"At that, Wendy—who had been smiling—suddenly teared up."If Lily doesn't want to help me, then forget it. She doesn't trust that I'm capable enough. Lily must be worried about me…"I hurriedly waved
