By then, Martha’s friends had noticed Philip. They snorted out and mocked, “Martha, is that your son-in-law? He looks really plain and so absentminded, like a blockhead. Your daughter is so pretty, she must have been blind to marry him!”

“Yeah, such a useless man is a disgrace to us elders. Thankfully my son-in-law is not like him.”

The group of elders started laughing in mockery.

Martha’s cheeky smile earlier was now completely gone. She snorted. “That wretched piece of trash is not my son-in-law. In a few days, I’ll have my daughter divorce him!”

Philip had heard the insults directed to him by the group. He could only shake his head and smiled coldly. He was already used to insults like this.
