A knock on my front door brought me out from the kitchen where I’d been preparing some cookies. I opened the door and found Allen Simons on my front porch.

“Well you haven’t been to work for days now, young man,” I told him, hands on my waist to show my seriousness.

“I’ve had a lot to process, Miss Mona.”

He always had a response. It was never his fault. I kinda understood his situation this time though.

“Wanna come in?” I offered. “The cookies in the oven are almost ready.”

Allen nodded and I walked back into the house. He followed, shutting the door after himself.

We entered the kitchen and I put mittens on to check on my cookies while he took a seat at the island counter.

“What do you think of this new alpha guy, Miss Mona?” he asked.

Oh, it was gonna be this conversation, huh?

“He seems alright, I guess,” I replied.

“Have you had any interactions with him?”

Why was he asking me that? I was probably just being paranoid though. He had no idea about Dom and I. I mean, a few older pack members knew about our old love story, but I doubt Allen knew anything of it. He was sixteen now. Eight years ago, he was eight. I think it’s safe to say he wasn’t bothered about my relationship at that age.

“My dad seems to really like the guy even though most of the pack don’t,” Allen went on. “Joe’s dad and Mrs. Wright seem to like him just fine though. They were the omega and Beta to my father so where’s the loyalty?!”

I took the cookies out of the oven and set the tray on the counter then turned to Allen.

“Look, kid, Nick and Sonia are bound to the alpha of the South Hartvale Pack. They love your dad and will always be loyal to him, but he lost the alpha title fair and square so the omega and Beta spirits will shift their allegiance to the new alpha instinctively. Everyone loves and respects your dad so now he’s telling us to trust Alpha Dominic, what do you expect us to do?”

“I expect the pack to demand another match for my dad!” Allen snapped. “I’ll fight for his honor if I have to. Why does nobody else seem to feel this way about the matter besides me and my mom?! Why is it so easy to just forget the old leader?!”

“Is this how wolf packs work?” this last question he asked in a very sad voice.

“Oh sweetheart.” I stepped forward and took his hands in mine from across the counter.

“None of this is bad, Allen,” I told him. “If all packs worked like ours, the world would be a better place for our kind. Your dad was and will always be the best leader we have ever had as far as I’m concerned, okay?”

“So you’re still loyal to my dad and not the new guy?” he asked, looking into my eyes.

“I trust your dad’s intelligence so if he says the new guy is alright then the least we can do is give him a chance, don’t you think?”

Allen scoffed and gently pulled his hands out of mine. He crossed them over his chest. Kid still wasn’t happy.

“Want some milk with your cookies?” I asked him.

He looked at me with a scowl, but finally nodded while still keeping up his mean face. I just loved this kid. He was like the little brother I never had.

I went about getting plates and getting some warm milk ready.

“Dad’s helping him hold a conference at the community center later today,” Allen announced.

“Helping who? Dom?” I asked.

“Dom?” he asked back raising an eyebrow.

“The new alpha guy,” I corrected myself.

“Yeah, him,” he confirmed. “Dad’s helping him organize some kinda meet-and-greet to make the people get to know him better.”

“Well that’s nice of your dad.”

Allen grunted in disgust and I couldn’t help laughing.

The milk was heated so I poured it into two mugs, put six cookies in a plate and served it at the counter then took a seat across from Allen.

“Now, let’s get some food in you and see if we can’t turn that frown upside down, little man.”

He maintained the frown on his face, but picked up the mug.

“Thanks, Miss Mona,” he mumbled.

“Oh I didn’t hear that, son,” I said, turning my left ear to him.

“I said thank you,” he repeated, smiling this time.

I smiled now and we both sipped our milk.

“I’ll be seeing you at the diner again starting tomorrow, right?” I asked him. “Vacation’s over. Unless you wanna loose that second-in-command spot.”

“I’ll be there, Miss Mona.”

“That’s my boy.”

“I do wonder how this new alpha is gonna operate without a Luna because my mom still holds that title and she is not one of his fans.” He bit into the cookie after dropping the lines.

Allen was right. Cynthia did not like Dom and it couldn’t be easy for an Alpha to work without a Luna.

“The moon spirits will deal with that, we just need to do our part, Allen.”

“I’m never gonna support that guy,” he grumbled then took another bite from his cookie, a big one this time.

For the first time in a long while, I was doing something normal; just chatting with Allen like I’ve always done. No pressure, no fear, no doubt, no Dom.

Marc and Jade were back in his cabin. Deep in the trees, wrapped in a quiet so complete it felt deliberate, as though the forest itself had decided to give them privacy. Wind threaded softly through the branches outside, brushing pine needles together in a slow, steady rhythm. Inside, the air was warm and carried the faint scents of cedar wood, spent firewood, and the lingering trace of whiskey.Marcus lay on his back beneath the sheets, staring up at the ceiling beams he’d sanded and sealed with his own hands years ago. Jade lay beside him, partially draped across his chest, her head resting where his heartbeat was strongest. His arm circled her almost absentmindedly, thumb moving in slow, thoughtful arcs against her skin. For a long time, neither of them spoke.Silence didn’t feel like something to escape here. It felt earned. After weeks of noise, expectations, and endings spoken aloud, the quiet was a kind of balm.“I’m not ready,” Marcus said eventually, his voice low and careful

Morning light filtered through the tall windows of Dom’s house, pale and clean, cutting through the lingering quiet of dawn. The place smelled faintly of coffee and polished wood, the kind of calm that came after a night without unrest. Dom stood near the kitchen island, phone pressed to his ear, gaze fixed on the open calendar projected on his tablet.“Yes,” he said into the phone, tone steady and authoritative. “The launch needs to feel welcoming, not ceremonial. This isn’t about reminding people who I am. It’s about what the gym offers the town.”He listened, brow creasing slightly. “No, I don’t want excessive banners. Clean lines. Strong lighting. Focus on function.”A pause.“Yes, food is fine. Keep it simple. Protein options, drinks, nothing that slows people down.”Another pause, longer this time. Dom nodded absently, even though the planner couldn’t see him. “That date works. Send me the final outline by tonight.”He ended the call and set the phone down, exhaling softly. The

The moon sat high above my roof that night, round and unblinking, as if it had chosen me specifically to watch. Its light spilled through the windows in silver ribbons, touching the floor, the walls, my skin. I should have closed the curtains. I didn’t.I lay on the couch, one arm draped over my eyes, breathing slowly. Too slowly. The Luna spirit stirred inside me, restless and awake in a way that felt far too intimate. It was not pain. Not fear. It was want. A want I had felt before. It wanted Dom. No, the alpha inside Dom.The pull came in waves, warm and insistent, curling low in my stomach and spreading outward like heat through embers. My thoughts betrayed me easily. His voice. His presence beside me in the council room. The steadiness of him. The way his touch had been careful, restrained, as if he understood how dangerous it would be to take more.I groaned softly and turned onto my side. This was exactly what I feared.I liked Dom. That part was real, undeniable. But this hung

The private trailer sat at the edge of the construction site like a polished secret. From the outside, it looked practical enough, but inside it carried a quiet luxury Marcus rarely indulged in. Clean lines, warm lighting, leather seating softened by use. A wide window looked out over the skeletal frame of the zonal office, steel ribs catching the fading afternoon light.Marcus stood near the small counter, a bottle of whiskey in his hand, watching dust drift in the distance. The day had been productive, loud, full of motion. In here, the silence pressed close, giving his thoughts more room than he liked.A low rumble cut through the quiet. He glanced toward the window just in time to see Jade pull up on her motorcycle, helmet tucked under one arm as she dismounted. The bike gleamed darkly in the sun, all sharp lines and controlled power. She removed her helmet, shaking her hair loose, and looked toward the trailer.Marcus felt something ease in his chest.Moments later, there was a k

The construction site breathed with purposeful noise.Metal clanged against metal in steady rhythm, a language of progress spoken in hammers, drills, and shouted measurements. Dust rose and settled in slow waves, catching the sun as it filtered through the skeletal frame of what would soon become the zonal office. Marcus stood near the edge of the site, hard hat tucked under his arm, boots planted firmly on packed earth that would one day be tiled and polished. His big dreams was coming to fruition. He had more money in the bank than he knew what to do with. For a project barely out of its infancy, the construction was doing well. Better than expected.Marc scanned the structure with a practiced eye, noting how the steel beams locked together like a promise being kept. The foundation had cured evenly. The first walls were already standing tall, confident in their lines. Progress charts clipped to a nearby board told the same story his instincts did. This build had momentum.“Morning,

Kane Dumont stood near the center of his study, broad shoulders tense beneath his dark coat. His presence filled the space the way storms filled the horizon. He stared down at the table before him, where markers and symbols lay scattered across a map of territory that no longer bent easily to his will.“They’re weaker now,” Kane said, voice rough with certainty. “Dominic’s pack lacks its enforcer. That absence leaves a gap they cannot fill overnight.”Todlin sat opposite him, composed and still, fingers steepled beneath her chin. The light caught the sharp intelligence in her eyes, reflecting calculation rather than flame.“It will affect them,” she agreed. “An enforcer is more than muscle. It is authority, fear, and speed combined. Removing that piece slows response and dulls intimidation.”Kane snorted, a sound edged with satisfaction. “Then we strike while they limp. Confusion spreads faster when no one stands to contain it.”Todlin did not immediately respond. She rose instead and
